Press Conference outside of Senator Mark Kirk’s Chicago Office

Will you join me and other Illinois pro-life leaders this coming Thursday, September 3rd at a press conference outside of Senator Mark Kirk’s Chicago office?

Earlier this month, Sen. Kirk voted AGAINST defunding Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider, which has been caught on camera harvesting and haggling over the body parts of aborted children. Senator Kirk needs to hear from Illinois pro-lifers right now. At the press conference, we will tell him:

We do NOT want our taxpayer dollars to fund abortion! Senator Kirk should support any efforts to defund Planned Parenthood this fall.

We want to see babies protected from painful late term abortions after five months. Senator Kirk must vote FOR the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act this fall.

Here are the details for Thursday’s event:

What: Women Speak Out: Demand Sen. Kirk Support Sensible 5 Month Abortion Limit

Where: Outside Senator Kirk’s Chicago Office at Federal Plaza – 230 S Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60604

When: Thursday, September 3, 12 PM – 1 PM

Who:    Susan B. Anthony List
            Americans United for Life Action
Concerned Women for America of Illinois
            Illinois Family Institute
            Illinois Right to Life
Illinois Federation for Right to Life
            Pro-Life Action League
            Pro-Life Future
            Students for Life of America
And many more local pro-life leaders!

Our nation’s permissive abortion laws have allowed Planned Parenthood to go unchecked for too long. Thanks to the Center for Medical Progress, we now know with certitude that Planned Parenthood has is wheeling and dealing in the body parts of aborted children.
They MUST be defunded.

Sadly, the U.S. is ALSO far outside the international norm when it comes to late term abortions. We are only one of seven countries – including human rights violators like China and North Korea -- to allow abortions after five months (20 weeks) more than halfway through pregnancy.

Join with me outside of Senator Kirk’s office this Thursday and ask him to defund Planned Parenthood AND help get the U.S. off the list of only seven nations lacking the compassion to protect babies – especially once they feel pain.

As Senator Kirk prepares to head back to Washington, D.C. after the August recess, he needs to hear from us – his pro-life constituents – now.

Join me on Thursday as we ask him to defund Big Abortion AND support a common sense, popular limit on abortion by voting FOR the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act when it comes for a vote in the fall.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in Chicago this Thursday at noon outside of Senator Kirk’s downtown office!

For Life,

Jill Stanek
National Campaign Chair, Susan B. Anthony List

Health Care Right of Conscience Act - Deadline Extended AGAIN!

SB1564 the Health Care Right of Conscience Act

Sponsor: Senator Biss.

The Deadline has now been extended to September 30, 2015.

This bill amends the Health Care Right of Conscience Act:  provides that notwithstanding any other law, a health care facility, or any physician or health care personnel working in the facility, may refuse to permit, perform, assist in, counsel about, suggest, recommend, refer for, or participate in health care services because of a conscience-based objection.

This bill now undermines Healthcare Right of Conscience by requiring pro-life facilities to refer pro-abort services to other facilities thus violating their morals or beliefs.

From the bill text:

Amends the Health Care Right of Conscience Act. Makes changes in the Section concerning findings and policy. Defines "access to care and information protocols" and "material information". Provides that notwithstanding any other law, a health care facility, or any physician or health care personnel working in the facility, may refuse to permit, perform, assist in, counsel about, suggest, recommend, refer for, or participate in health care services because of a conscience-based objection only if the refusal occurs in accordance with written access to care and information protocols designed to ensure that (1) the patient receives material information in a timely fashion; and (2) the refusal will not impair the patient's health by causing delay of or inability to access the refused health care service. Provides that nothing in the Act shall be construed to prevent a health care facility from requiring that physicians or health care personnel working in the facility comply with access to care and information protocols.

This amendment requires a written referral to a facility that will complete the refused services including abortion, contraceptives and family planning.

From the bill text:

...a written document that contains the names of and contact information for health care facilities, physicians, or health care personnel that may provide the patient the particular form of health care service refused...

"Health care" is defined as any phase of patient care, including but not limited to, testing; diagnosis; prognosis; ancillary research; instructions; family planningcounsellingreferrals, or any other advice in connection with the use or procurement of contraceptives and sterilization or abortion procedures; medication; or surgery or other care or treatment rendered by a physician or physicians, nurses, paraprofessionals or health care facility, intended for the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of persons...

Although an amendment has been added to bill, the Federation for Right to Life still opposes this bill.

March for Life wins exemption from Obamacare contraceptive mandate

The March for Life has won a permanent injunction barring enforcement of the “Obamacare” contraceptive mandate.

A federal court rules on August 31 that the March for Life, the group that organizes the annual pro-life demonstration in Washington each January, should be granted the same exemption from the mandate that has been applied to religious organizations. Although the March for Life is not a religious group, the court reasoned:

If the purpose of the religious employer exemption is, as HHS states, to respect the anti-abortifacient tenets of an employment relationship, then it makes no rational sense-indeed, no sense whatsoever to deny March for Life that same respect.

Andrzejewski: IL Comptroller Munger pays Planned Parenthood; holds disability payments

Instead of directing court ordered payments to the developmentally disabled, Illinois comptroller massively funded Planned Parenthood, spent taxpayer dollars on lobbyists, paid thousands of dollars in checks to a political blogger, and used the state plane as her personal taxi.

Those are the assertions of government transparency advocate Adam Andrzejewski in a Forbes' commentary Friday.

Andrzejewski says she's close to being in contempt of court with the checks she's writing.

Undercover video producers debunk Planned Parenthood's defense

The Center for Medical Progress, which has released a series of damaging undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the sale of fetal tissues, has now sent a letter to Congress, rebutting a Planned Parenthood defense of its policies.

“The Planned Parenthood report contains multiple erroneous statements and conclusions, yet by its own words finds no ‘substantive video manipulation’ and ‘no evidence of audio manipulation,’ the pro-life group observed in a press release.

In his letter to Congress, the Center for Medical Progress pointed out that Planned Parenthood had acknowledged that some clinics “may ‘adjust’ abortion procedures in order to obtain higher quality fetal tissue specimens.” That would be a violation of federal law, the group notes. Explaining the process of harvesting organs from aborted babies, the Center says that “this is a new revenue stream off of fetal tissue with no real cost to Planned Parenthood, and thus a criminal profit.”

New Video Continues to Expose Grisly Nature of Baby Body Part Trafficking

Over lunch with undercover investigators from the CMP, Dyer casually discusses her company’s role in the trafficking process, including admissions that the company gets “a lot” of intact fetuses and suggesting that “another 50 livers a week” would not be enough. In her conversation, Dyer indicates the value of Planned Parenthood as a partner, referring to them as a “high volume” operation. She also fully revealed the gruesome nature of her “business,” namely that clients who receive the trafficked baby body parts often don’t want to see the heads, hands, and feet of the unborn children – indicating that even for researchers, the sight of an unborn child’s head in a delivery box is too grisly.

A claim repeated like a mantra by Planned Parenthood, and uncritically transmitted by many journalists, is that abortion makes up “only 3%” of Planned Parenthood’s “services.” But Planned Parenthood counts everything given to, or done to, a given patient as a separate “service.” For example: every pregnant woman who enters a Planned Parenthood clinic for an abortion, may also have a pregnancy test, STD screening, and may receive birth control pills. Each of these counts as a “service;” thus, a woman who walks in for an abortion receives not one, but four “services.” (This doesn’t include other “services” that may be required for the abortion itself.)

In short, the 3% figure is purposefully misleading. A much more instructive measure is to look at the numbers of clients, rather than the number of “services.” Based on data from their own annual report from 2008-2009 (where the 3% figure made its first appearance), nearly one in eight women walking through the door of a Planned Parenthood clinic has an abortion.

Thomas More Society Defends David Daleiden as He Uncovers Abortion Industry's Sale of Fetal Body Parts

Anti-SLAPP Motion Filed to Fend off National Abortion Federation Attempt to Silence Filmmaker's Free Speech

Thomas More Society attorneys are helping to defend David Daleiden, the investigative journalist who produced the Planned Parenthood exposé videos, against civil RICO charges which are pending before the federal district court in San Francisco. The not-for-profit national public interest law firm has filed an Anti-SLAPP motion on behalf of Daleiden and his affiliated entities, the Center for Medical Progress and Biomax Procurement Services LLC, in that ongoing proceeding.

The Anti-SLAPP action is a legal response to an arguably legally baseless effort on the part of the plaintiff, the National Abortion Federation, whose objective is allegedly to deny Daleiden his First Amendment free speech rights. Daleiden's whistleblowing videos depict the roles of Planned Parenthood, Stem Express and others in the illegal harvesting and selling of fetal body parts for profit, as well as the violation of laws against partial birth abortion, killing of born alive infants, and altering abortion procedures so as to enhance possibilities for securing "intact fetal cadavers." Following the release of these films, the National Abortion Federation sued Daleiden and his affiliated entities, as well as Operation Rescue head Troy Newman (represented by separate counsel), under the federal Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations Act known as RICO. This 1970 federal law was designed to combat organized crime. The suit also, as well as under another twelve California state law claims.

Media Support for Forcing Doctors to Kill

So, you’re a doctor. You go into the profession to heal and alleviate suffering.

You believe in the sanctity of human life, either due to religion or philosophy. You accept the maxims of the Hippocratic Oath. Your beliefs are in accord with the ethics of your profession.

Suddenly, the Supreme Court of your country rules that doctors killing sick patients is a Charter right–even for psychological pain. Now, your beliefs are considered a denial of a patient’s right to be killed.

Fine. Let other doctors do it, you say. Not you. You believe it is a grievous sin and/or profoundly immoral to be complicit in homicide. That’s not why you became a doctor. Tough!

Canada’s medical establishment wants to force you to kill. And, the media is beginning to join the chorus.

2016 Presidential Candidates on Defunding Abortion Providers: Do you know where they stand?

Following the release of undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of baby parts procured from their lucrative abortion business, pro-life Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) introduced S. 1881, a bill which would end all federal funding of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, with the money being given instead to other women’s health service providers.

On August 3, 2015, U.S. Senators voted 53-46 to advance this bill.  Sixty votes were needed for advancement. Two Democrats voted to advance the legislation, which was opposed by a single Republican. One pro-life senator was absent and another pro-life senator changed his vote to “no” at the last minute so that he could later ask for reconsideration.

One of the individuals pictured above is likely to be elected President in 2016. In light of President Obama’s threat to veto any bill that defunds Planned Parenthood, following is an overview of the 2016 presidential candidates’ positions on the issue in alphabetical order.

Where do the 2016 presidential candidates for the Republican nomination stand on defunding abortion providers?  Click here for more.

Starkehaus: Will Bruce Rauner’s support for Planned Parenthood remain “unequivocal”

...we have a game changer now – and "game" is the accurate description of what the political dialog of abortion has become. The whistleblower videos that Holly O'Donnell and the Center for Medical Progress have produced regarding Planned Parenthood's designer abortions – tailored with the harvesting human fetal tissue in mind – mean that social conservatives can no longer delude themselves by thinking that Planned Parenthood is in the business of "mostly mammograms with an occasional abortion thrown in for emergency purposes only."

Representatives like Bruce Rauner would perhaps like to gloss over the need for a thorough examination of Planned Parenthood's profit motive for expedience's sake. Maybe they will suggest that it's a poor use of the state's limited resources. And, after all, we wouldn't want to be seen as infringing upon Planned Parenthood's mythological mammogram programs, would we? Think of the optics in the upcoming election cycle if feminists start launching on so-called misogynist Republicans again.

So social conservatives have been alerted to the atrocities and are left wondering, what will Bruce Rauner do now that the actions of Planned Parenthood's employees have been revealed on video for all the world to see?

Pro-life advocates line sidewalks nationwide outside 300+ Planned Parenthood centers

Almost half of the 668 Planned Parenthood facilities in the nation were flooded with pro-life protesters Saturday in a nationwide effort. The demonstrations come on the heels of a series of videos by from the Center for Medical Progress that show top doctors at Planned Parenthood haggling over the price of fetal body parts.

The protest, planned for weeks, follows a new video released this week in which a Planned Parenthood fetal parts buyer is seen making jokes about shipping baby heads. About 320 Planned Parenthood centers saw protesters with the turnout at some numbering in the hundreds and even thousands. Posts about the rallies were tagged #ProtestPP and became the top trending items on both Facebook and Twitter.

StemExpress says it has cut ties with Planned Parenthood

A week ago Sunday, Heather Saunders Estes, CEO and president of Planned Parenthood’s Northern California chapter, told Phil Matier of KPIX 5, “What we do is legal and ethical and we’re proud of it.”

Estes was, of course, referring to the tremendous backlash against PPFA stirred by the shocking remarks made by Planned Parenthood officials on recorded undercover videos taken by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP).

On Saturday Stem Express ostensibly cut ties with Planned Parenthood.

“Due to the increased questions that have arisen over the past few weeks, we feel it prudent to terminate activities with Planned Parenthood,” a company statement said. “While we value our relationship with Planned Parenthood, that work represents a small percentage of our overall business activity and we must focus our limited resources on resolving these inquiries.”

ETHICAL Stem Cells Grow Human Brain

This is an achievement: Scientists have used skin cells to build a rudimentary human brain. (These were induced pluripotent stem cells.) From The Guardian story:

An almost fully-formed human brain has been grown in a lab for the first time, claim scientists from Ohio State University. The team behind the feat hope the brain could transform our understanding of neurological disease.

Though not conscious the miniature brain, which resembles that of a five-week-old foetus, could potentially be useful for scientists who want to study the progression of developmental diseases. It could also be used to test drugs for conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, since the regions they affect are in place during an early stage of brain development.

The brain, which is about the size of a pencil eraser, is engineered from adult human skin cells and is the most complete human brain model yet developed, claimed Rene Anand of Ohio State University, Columbus, who presented the work today at the Military Health System Research Symposium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Over 300 Planned Parenthood Protests to Take Place Simultaneously in 47 States August 22

On Saturday, August 22 public protests of Planned Parenthood (PP) abortion clinics and facilities will take place all over the United States. Thousands are expected to attend these protests with the purpose of creating awareness of the barbaric practice of abortion and the sale of aborted baby body parts -- a scandal that has erupted in recent weeks due to undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress. Currently, there are over 300 cities in 47 states and 5 countries represented in the nationwide protest.

Radical pro-abortion groups have organized counter protests in several cities. "We are going to be out there … it's up to us to make a big noise," Sunsara Taylor, founder of StopPatriarchy.org, said recently in the Washington Times.

#ProtestPP is the largest demonstration against Planned Parenthood in their 99 year history.

Video #7: 'Absolute barbarism' at Planned Parenthood

Just when one thinks the reports can't possibly get more gruesome, a revealing video tells of abortion technicians harvesting an intact brain from a late-term baby boy whose heart was still beating.

The seventh in a series of undercover videos about Planned Parenthood and the harvesting of body parts of aborted babies was released today by The Center for Medical Progress. Project lead David Daleiden says this of the latest video:

"[It] contains heartrending admissions about the absolute barbarism of Planned Parenthood's abortion practice and baby parts sales in which fetuses are sometimes delivered intact and alive. Planned Parenthood is a criminal organization from the top down and should be immediately stripped of taxpayer funding and prosecuted for their atrocities against humanity."

What the House is Doing About Planned Parenthood

The following was distributed today by the office of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.)

The videos of Planned Parenthood employees detailing and engaging in gruesome abortion practices are profoundly disturbing, and no person can escape being sickened by what Planned Parenthood is doing and the callousness of how they do it. The White House may not want to look at the problem in the face, but the rest of America knows that as good and decent people, we can’t turn a blind eye to Planned Parenthood’s abortion industry.

When these videos first came out, the House immediately started investigating Planned Parenthood. And over the course of over a month, we have demanded answers to determine whether abortion providers are profiting from selling fetal body parts and organs, whether abortion providers change procedures in order to maximize their harvesting of body parts, and if there are any other violations of federal law or ways Congress can respond to these horrifying practices.

We need to get all the facts about Planned Parenthood so that the American people know exactly what is going on. Once we’ve gotten to the bottom of Planned Parenthood’s abortion business, we can work to stop any illegal selling of fetal body parts and make sure no taxpayer is ever forced to give their money to fund these repulsive practices.

Five states have now cut funding to Planned Parenthood

In rapid succession, Utah and Arkansas last week became the fourth and fifth states to defund Planned Parenthood.

On Friday pro-life Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson “moved to cut the state’s funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and ordered the Department of Human Services to sever its Medicaid contract with the abortion provider,” Reuters reported.

Also on Friday Utah Gov. Gary Herbert instructed the Utah Department of Health to “stop distributing federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah,” Deseret News reported.

Viral video of 11-week baby jumping shows the humanity of preborn children

A beautiful video of a baby in utero is rapidly being shared across social media. The ultrasound shows the 11-week, 4-day-old preborn child bouncing around in the womb. This child is still in the first trimester, the gestational age during which most abortions take place.

Monica Barba posted the video, saying, “For everyone who is wondering what can be seen on an ultrasound of a 1st trimester baby. Enjoy!” She says the child belongs to a woman who came into the pregnancy resource center and chose life. Barba describes the child as having a lot of energy and being full of life, and that another ultrasound later revealed he is a boy.

Since July 21, the video has been shared more than 8,000 times and has been viewed over 500,000 times.

This baby was saved at a pregnancy resource center when his mother chose life after seeing this ultrasound. We discovered later in the pregnancy this baby was a BOY! For everyone who is wondering what can be seen on an ultrasound of a 1st trimester baby. Enjoy!11 weeks 4 days old baby. So much energy & life!!! Precious baby =)

Planned Parenthood scandal may have international effects

A pro-life organization is anticipating the possibility that Europe may soon be ending its relationship with Planned Parenthood.

The abortion business has lately been the target of several undercover videos showing staff discussing the sale of aborted baby organs and tissue, and Joseph Meaney of Human Life International tells OneNewsNow the controversy is not limited to the United States.

"It kind of shows, I think, the globalization of the pro-life movement, because Planned Parenthood's troubles in the USA are turning into international Planned Parenthood Federation's troubles all over the world," Meaney offers. "The European Commission now has been asked to investigate Planned Parenthood in Europe based on the fact that Planned Parenthood Federation of America has been caught doing all these things here in the USA."

A member of the European Parliament, Miroslav Mikolasik, filed the complaint with the Commission in part because the Commission provides funds for the international abortion provider for Africa.

False charges against Chicago pro-life counselor dismissed

A pro-life counselor in the Chicago area had to wait half a year for prosecutors to admit they didn't have a case against him.

For two decades, Warren Dorman has been a sidewalk counselor at Albany Medical Surgical Center, an abortion clinic. Thomas More Society attorney Corrina Konczal picks up the story.

“On December 27 of this past year, there was an incident that resulted in Mr. Dorman's arrest,” she says. “It was described as battery, and we've been defending Mr. Dorman because it simply wasn't.”

In fact, it was Dorman and an abortion clinic worker accidentally bumping into each other, which Konczal says video cameras would have revealed.

Pro-abortion Senator Kirk collaborating with Illinois' Planned Parenthood?

On August 3, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk was the lone* Republican to vote against a measure to defund Planned Parenthood, this despite horrific revelations from, at that point, four undercover videos showing various Planned Parenthood high level executives admitting - bragging even - about selling aborted baby parts for profit.

Former Congressman Bobby Schilling penned an op ed in the Chicago Tribune imploring Kirk to reconsider his position. He, too, agreed someone needs to challenge Kirk, and rumor has it that someone could be him.

By the night of August 5, Kirk was feeling the heat. One of his campaign staffers forwarded Fran Eaton, editor of Illinois Review, what appears to be the only known copy of the following press release. It is not and never has been on his website, nor has it been sent to anyone else that we know of. This is because it contains a glaring oopsie. See if you can spot it:

National Protest of Planned Parenthood scheduled for Saturday morning

The Planned Parenthood Center in Aurora Illinois will one abortion clinic throughout the nation that will be protested Saturday, August 22 from 9 to 11 am.  Multiple protests will be held in 37 states in response to undercover videos that show Planned Parenthood officials in California, Texas and Colorado negotiating with fetal tissue buyers and inside looks at labs where aborted baby parts are gathered.

Chicago's Pro-Life Action League, led by Eric Scheidler, is one of the national protest organizers.

"The protests will declare," their website says, “'Planned Parenthood sells baby parts!' to raise public awareness of this scandalous practice, which was recently brought to light in a series of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress."

When the Senate won't defund Planned Parenthood, states will

Alabama on Thursday became the third U.S. state this week to withdraw funding from its local branches of Planned Parenthood, after the U.S. Senate failed to bring to the floor a bill that would have blocked federal funding of the abortion group.

On Aug. 5, New Hampshire's Executive Council (the state's executive body alongside its governor) voted 3-2 to deny the state's contract with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. The decision will remove $639,000 in state funding of the organization.

Louisiana's health department ended its Medicaid provider contract with Planned Parenthood Aug. 3, though it will take effect in 30 days. The decision was made, according to Governor Bobby Jindal, because “Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the people of Louisiana and shows a fundamental disrespect for human life. It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state.”

Tell Congress You Don’t Want Tax Funds to Push Older People to Agree to Premature Death!

Ask Your Representative to Co-Sponsor H.R. 3251 against Biased “Advance Care Planning” Under Medicare

During the debate over the enactment of Obamacare, there was considerable controversy over paying Medicare health care providers to conduct “advance care planning,” which counsels patients on deciding whether to choose or reject life-preserving medical treatment (and even food and fluids) and advising on legal documents implementing that decision. That provision was taken out of the ultimately enacted law because of an outcry by those who feared it would be used to limit health care spending by persuading people to agree to forego life-saving treatments. Now, the Obama Administration is proposing to use executive power to revive it as a regulation to take effect January 1, 2016.

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has introduced a bill, H.R. 3251, to prevent the Administration from implementing new Medicare payments for “advance care planning” sessions, which substantial evidence shows are in most cases likely to “nudge” seniors to accept denial of life-preserving care and medically assisted provision of food and fluids.

Click here to Contact your Representative to urge him or her to cosponsor H.R. 3251!

Documentation and multiple examples of bias can be found in a report entitled “The Bias Against Life-Preserving Treatment in Advance Care Planning,” available HERE.

Illinois conservatives react to Kirk's Planned Parenthood compromise bill

Illinois conservatives are reacting negatively to U.S. Senator Mark Kirk's announcement Wednesday night that he and two other Republican senators were introducing legislation calling for the Department of Justice to investigate Planned Parenthood and its affiliates.

The bill, Kirk's press release says, calls on the federal government to defund any affiliates found to be involved in trafficking aborted babies' remains.

It is difficult to assess exactly how Kirk and his colleagues want all they say they want will happen, because as of Thursday morning, the text of the bill hasn't been posted.

Breen introduces bill to ban baby body part trafficking in Illinois

While there is no evidence to substantiate U.S. Senator Mark Kirk's claims that Planned Parenthood in Illinois is not involved in trafficking baby body parts as undercover videos revealed such involvement in California, Colorado and Texas, concerns about similar activities in Illinois abortion clinics remain unanswered.

In response to the controversial videos surrounding the harvesting and sale of aborted fetal body parts and tissue, State Representative Peter Breen (R-Lombard) filed legislation this week to amend and clarify the Illinois Anatomical Gift Act as it relates to tissue and body parts that can be legally donated or sold.

HB4266, filed Wednesday in Springfield, would amend the Anatomical Gift Act by expanding the definition of “decedent” to include a deceased fetus or unborn child using definitions outlined in the Illinois Abortion Law of 1975. The proposed new language also expressly prohibits the donation or sale of aborted fetuses and fetal tissue.

Illinois' Mark Kirk only Republican to support Planned Parenthood in U.S. Senate vote

With U.S. Senator Mark Kirk as the only Republican to oppose stopping the taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, he U.S. Senate fell six votes short Monday afternoon.

The Washington Post writes:

Two prominent moderates, Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Two others who were considered to be likely swing voters, Sens. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), voted against the bill, joining 43 other Democrats and Republican Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois to defeat the measure.

"I commend the Senators that lead this initiative and and would like to thank all those who voted in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood today," Phyllis Schlafly said.  "We were all sickened by content released in several videos over the last few weeks showing Planned Parenthood executives and employees discussing the sale and profit of the organs and body parts of unborn babies.

The Abortion Pill Known as “RU-486”: By any other name… Just as deadly

If there wasn’t enough confusion already, we now find that the abortion drug mifepristone (the generic name for RU-486) is being produced in other countries and sold under other names. Why does that matter?

It’s a wake-up call for anyone who thought that the abortion pill was just about adding one other boutique abortion option to American clinics. What is clear now is that chemical abortion has become big business, on a global scale, and a lot pharmaceutical entrepreneurs are looking to cash in. And they don’t care much about the risk these online drug stores pose to women in countries all over the globe.

Mifepristone originally was named RU-38486, as it was the 34,486th chemical compound synthesized by French pharmaceutical maker, Roussel-Uclaf. Calling it RU-486 is a matter of shorthand, though it also has the unintentionally ironic feature of being an abbreviated textual form of the question “Are You For 86?” To “86″ something has long been American slang for getting rid of that thing or person.

Senate Democrats Block Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood

Senate Democrats yesterday (August 3rd) voted to block a bill that would end all federal funding of the nation’s largest abortion provider.

The measure, S. 1881, would block funding of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates. The vote to advance the bill was 53 to 46. However, 55 current senators actually support advancing the bill (one pro-life senator was absent, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) switched his vote to opposition only so that he would be eligible to enter a motion to reconsider, as he promptly did).

On the most recent previous occasion when the Senate voted on whether to defund Planned Parenthood, on April 14, 2011, only 42 senators voted for the cutoff.

“Planned Parenthood’s political arm is a major backer of many Democratic senators – who today voted to block a bill to defund their political ally,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “We recognize that cutting off this politically connected abortion mega-marketer is a long-term project, and we are encouraged that today’s tally represents a marked increase in opposition to Planned Parenthood since 2011, when only 42 senators voted to support a cutoff. Shame on Senate Democrats for voting to allow hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to fill the coffers of the nation’s largest abortion provider.”

Sponsored by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), S. 1881 states, “Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be made available to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, or clinics.” The bill also contains language to provide that “all funds no longer available to Planned Parenthood will continue to be made available to other eligible entities to provide women’s health care services.” In other words, any funds removed from Planned Parenthood would be reallocated to women’s health services provided by others.

Sen. Ernst introduced S. 1881 last week with the strong backing of Majority Leader McConnell, in response to a series of videos released by The Center for Medical Progress. The videos, which underscored the need for passage of legislation to cut off all federal funds to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, show top Planned Parenthood officials discussing the harvesting and trafficking of body parts from unborn babies killed by abortion.

Ethically acceptable non-embryonic stem cells once again in the news

Remember when THE SCIENTISTS! insisted that embryonic stem cells and human cloning were the ONLY HOPE to create a vibrant regenerative medical sector? People bought the mendacity, and as one consequence, California is now stuck with the borrow-and-spend-billions boondoggle known as the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

One Japanese scientist [Shinya Yamanaka] saw his own daughters in embryos under a microscope and invented induced pluripotent stem [iPS] cells–that is, stem cells (undifferentiated cells) made from skin cells, that can then be transformed (differentiated) into other kinds of tissues.

In other words the “authorities” adamantly insisted that the future of regenerative medicine– restoring structure and function to damaged tissues and organs–will run through the harvesting of stem cells tissue extracted from embryonic human beings.

But Prof. Yamanaka found an ethical alternative.

Eighth Circuit Allows Religious Liberty Suit vs. Obamacare Abortion Pill Mandate

This morning, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit handed down a unanimous decision in favor of Thomas More Society's clients, Missouri State Senator Paul Wieland and his wife Teresa, ruling that their lawsuit against Obamacare's HHS Abortion Pill Mandate may proceed to be heard on its merits. The HHS Mandate directs that - despite religious objections - all health insurance plans must cover contraception, including FDA-approved abortifacients (Plan B, Ella) as well as sterilization. The court overruled the lower court's dismissal of the case on procedural ("lack of standing to sue") grounds, sending it back to the federal district court for further proceedings on the merits of the Wielands' claims that they deserve a religious exemption from these compulsory insurance coverages.

The suit, filed back in November, 2013, contended that the HHS mandate infringed upon the Wielands' religious liberty rights under the First Amendment, because it forced them to violate their sincerely-held religious beliefs by providing health insurance coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and birth control to their teenage and adult daughters.

"Today's ruling is a huge victory for religious liberty," said Tom Brejcha, Thomas More Society President and Chief Counsel. "Last year, for profit business owners prevailed against the HHS mandate imposed by Obamacare when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby. Now, individuals and families may also sue to win protection from the Obamacare Mandate, when they have conscientious objections based on sincerely held religious beliefs. As the case has been remanded to the federal district court where our clients' religious liberty claims will be evaluated in light of the governing Hobby Lobby precedent, we hope to prevail in the end."

Abortionists deny risks for premature births

In June, Dr. David Grimes wrote a piece for the Huffington Post in which he states the idea that abortion impacts future pregnancies is a pipe dream of "naïve" pro-lifers. On the other hand, Bradley Mattes of Life Issues Institute says evidence shows that abortion does impact later pregnancies.

“Largely, it's because when they go in and artificially dilate the cervix [during an abortion] they have to stretch it to get their tools in and the baby out,” he explains. “The procedure damages or tears that tissue, which then affects future pregnancies. The further into pregnancy [a woman is], the more they have to artificially and quickly dilate the cervix.”  Often, he says, the cervix then becomes weak or unable to sustain a full-term pregnancy, so subsequent babies are born prematurely. “The scarring that sometimes occurs on the lining of the womb is damaged, which can also cause problems leading to preterm birth,” he adds.

More than 120 studies prove premature births can occur in future pregnancies after an induced abortion - so the question is why David Grimes and others in the pro-abortion camp deny it.

Second Planned Parenthood senior executive haggles over baby parts prices

The Center of Medical Progress released a second video Tuesday morning in which a second Planned Parenthood official haggles with two persons pretending to be human tissue buyers.

"What would you expect for intact tissue?" the buyer asks.

"Why don't you start by telling me what you're used to paying?" says Dr. Mary Gatter, President of the Planned Parenthood Medical Directors' Council.

Dr. Gatter goes on to agree to check with other California Planned Parenthood clinics to see what prices they're getting for intact fetal tissue. She also suggests changing abortion methods on 10 to 12 week preborn baby parts in order to make sure the tissue would be intact, rather than using methods that are more "crunchy," she says.

Christian publisher wins permanent injunction against contraceptive mandate

An Illinois publishing house that specializes in Bible sales has won a permanent injunction against enforcement of the contraceptive mandate in the federal health-care program.

A federal district court ruled that Tyndale House Publishers—a privately held corporation, which donates most of its profits to religious institutions—should not be required to provide contraceptive coverage in health-care insurance for employees.

Other companies and religious institutions have won temporary injunctions against the mandate, which have halted enforcement until the cases are decided. The Tyndale House decision is a final judgment.

Warning is out over FDA-approved Essure

A medical expert believes the Food and Drug Administration needs to take precautionary action to warn women using birth control pill Essure.

Side effects of Essure range from headaches and cramps to uterine perforation and infection in the fallopian tubes, he says. "And also tubal pregnancy," says Dr. Hager, "where in spite of the device, a pregnancy has occurred in the fallopian tube and there's the potential for that pregnancy to rupture. There've even been some deaths that have occurred."

Dr. Hager contends the FDA needs to act, at least in a precautionary manner with a "black box" warning.

FDA has finally listed possible health dangers associated with Essure. It's a shame that the FDA didn't move sooner, Hager adds, because women with long-term use of Essure had been sending in complaints for two to three years.

White House Press Secretary evades questions about Planned Parenthood video

I didn’t expect that the White House press corps would questioned Press Secretary Josh Earnest as vigorously about the now infamous undercover Planned Parenthood video as they did on the controversial deal with Iran. But it would have been nice if they had followed up on the initial question with some of the same skepticism.

(You can see the question and answer at http://www.c-span.org/video/?327168-1/white-house-daily-briefing beginning in the 35th minute).

A reporter described what she described as a “domestic issue” that is “something that has been the topic of big debate. Some employees with Planned Parenthood were captured on video talking about fetal remain, the remains of aborted fetuses. Does the President have a reaction to this debate?”

Earnest responded, “I haven’t spoken to the President about this particular issue,” adding,  “ I will acknowledge that I have not seen the particular video.”  Earnest also evaded the question of whether President Obama thinks it “is ethical to use the remains of aborted fetuses for medical research?” Ask Planned Parenthood.

Hultgren: Planned Parenthood Discusses Aborted Body Parts over Red Wine

U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today delivered a statement on the House floor deploring the actions of Planned Parenthood and its affiliates following an undercover video investigation into the organization. Hultgren called for an end to Planned Parenthood’s practice of harvesting the organs of aborted babies, supported the renewed congressional investigation into the organization, and urged Senate action on the House-passed legislation H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015.

Transcript shows Planned Parenthood director told baby part buyers to contact Cook County's Stroger Hospital

Concerns about medical procedures at Chicago's publicly-funded Stroger Hospital are being raised after a mention of the hospital was found in the published transcript of a conversation that is drawing national attention this week. In the conversation a year ago in California, a high-level Planned Parenthood official discussed harvesting and selling human body parts.

While talking about possible contacts throughout the nation that may be sources for available human tissue following abortions, Planned Parenthood of America Federation's Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, suggested the "buyers" check with the family planning director at Cook County's Stroger Hospital.

While there is yet any confirmation as to whether Stroger Hospital is a source for baby body parts, the Planned Parenthood medical director was correct that the family planning department director at Stroger Hospital is Ashlesha Patel, MD. Stroger Hospital's website currently lists the name and position...

House cancels vote on breast cancer coin after conservatives revolt over Komen/Planned Parenthood ties

The House cleared a Unanimous Consent request to amend H.R. 2722 by removing all references to Susan G. Komen.

Indeed, as apparent fallout to the firestorm created yesterday by a video released by The Center for Medical Progress, which showed Planned Parenthood’s ghoulish participation in aborted baby parts trafficking, the relationship between breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen Foundation and the abortion giant was recalled by pro-life legislators with a vengeance.

According to CNN:

House Republican leaders canceled a vote on Tuesday on legislation that would have created a commemorative coin to raise money for breast cancer awareness, after some House conservatives raised concerns the coin sale funds would be used to support an abortion rights group at the center of a controversial new video.

Heritage Action, a conservative advocacy group, sent out a “key vote” alert to members.

“The bill would require the U.S. Treasury to mint coins that would funnel up to $4.75 million to Dallas-based Susan G. Komen – an organization that notoriously funds abortion giant Planned Parenthood,” the group said.

SB1564 the Health Care Right of Conscience Act Update - Roll Call

This bill amends the Health Care Right of Conscience Act:  provides that notwithstanding any other law, a health care facility, or any physician or health care personnel working in the facility, may refuse to permit, perform, assist in, counsel about, suggest, recommend, refer for, or participate in health care services because of a conscience-based objection.

This bill now undermines Healthcare Right of Conscience by requiring pro-life facilities to refer pro-abort services to other facilities thus violating their morals or beliefs.

Update on SB1564: Today (July 15th) 5 representatives who support SB1564 were absent so it is unlikely that the sponsor will call the bill because she will not have her votes.

However, we will not relent.  This is the roll call of the vote taken in the House on July 9, 2015 on the amendment to SB1564.

The purpose of the amendment was to change the effective date to June of 2016 so that the bill would require 60 votes instead of 71.  The sponsor needed at least one more yea than the nays to pass the amendment.  You can see that she did have enough yeas to pass the amendment but did not receive 60 votes for the amendment.  This suggests that she may not have 60 votes to pass the bill.  However we must continue to contact representatives.  If your representative voted "no" (N) or "no vote" (NV) please contact them and thank them for their vote.  We need to let them know that we are grateful for their vote against the amendment and also, ask them to also vote no on SB1564.

Alveda King: Advancing Reproductive Lies - Women Do Regret Abortion

Alveda King: Advancing Reproductive Lies - Women Do Regret Abortion (And Don't Know That Their Babies' Body Parts are Being Sold by Planned Parenthood)

In a recent report, Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health just disrespected hundreds of thousands of women, including Black women like me by saying that our testimonies of our regret over our abortions are likely unfounded. In their report, they say that over 95 percent of women who have had an abortion think they made the right decision according to their new study. Released by the University of California, San Francisco think tank Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health, and using 667 women who participated in the group's Turnaway survey, the report found that while a quarter of the women expressed some negativity about their abortions, "Results from this study suggest that claims that many women experience abortion decision regret are likely unfounded."

While I am writing this blog, there is a news flash from Priests for Life working with Mark Crutcher at Life Dynamics, Operation Rescue, and others with startling evidence that Planned Parenthood is involved in a massive cover up over selling body parts and remains of aborted babies. It's all lining up. The dots are actually being connected. Remember my Three Headed Monster report? There is so much that is hidden. It's time to tell the truth.

30-month undercover investigation exposes Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of baby parts

The pro-life undercover group Center for Medical Progress today began revealing findings of a deep undercover investigation:

The Human Capital project is a 30-month-long investigative journalism study… documenting how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted babies. Citizen journalists at CMP spent two-and-a-half years logging thousands of research hours to painstakingly gather hundreds of hours of undercover footage, dozens of eye-witness testimonies, and nearly two hundred pages of primary source documents.

The investigation included attending five top abortion industry conventions – with undercover video cameras.

CMP investigators found Planned Parenthood is involved in buying and selling aborted baby body parts, which is a federal felony – and while attempting to retrieve those body parts intact sometimes commits partial birth abortions, which is also a federal felony offense and illegal in several states as well.

Obama administration makes another proposal for mandated contraceptive coverage by religious employers

The Obama administration has released a new proposal to resolve a conflict with religious institutions that object in principle to the mandated coverage of contraceptives in the "Obamacare" health-insurance program.

The new policy would allow qualified religious institutions to opt out of the contraceptive coverage. Female employees at these organizations would then receive contraceptive coverage directly from insurers, without any direct payment by the employer. However, the new proposal still requires the religious institutions to notify the Department of Health and Human Services that they are opting out, thus triggering the coverage for their employees. To date, religious institutions have objected to that provision, saying that it requires them, in effect, to take an action that provides the objectionable coverage.

Following up on a Supreme Court ruling that privately owned corporations must be allowed to uphold the religious principles of their owners, the Obama administration has also offered an opt-out provision for corporations. The proposed rules would apply only to corporations held by no more than five owners, and not traded on public exchanges.

Pro-abortion NGOs: Right to Abortion Above Girls’ Right to Life

Asia-based NGOs hosted a meeting in New Delhi to discuss the impact of efforts to reduce sex selective abortion on access to abortion. The discussion led by Asia Safe Abortion Partnership (ASAP) and Creating Resources for Empowerment in Action (CREA) centered not on saving the lives of girls who are identified in the womb and targeted for abortion but rather on “the serious barriers this is creating for women’s right to safe abortion.”

One of the major complaints was the drop in availability of abortion-inducing drugs, despite the fact that a large quality of the drugs is manufactured in India and China.

The sex selection vs. access to abortion discussion included remarks by Suchitra Dalvies, which focused on women who seek sex selection abortion “..when it comes to this issue of sex selection we routinely hold meetings and discussions without bringing in the perspective of the women who are seeking or obtaining sex determination and selection.”
