The Impact of "KIDS"

The Impact of "KIDS"

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and her son Cole (center) meet with families of children with Down syndrome at the KIDS event held at NRLC prior to the March for Life.

I can't read something like "Testing Curbs Some Genetic Diseases," which ran in the Associated Press this morning, without thinking back to last January 22. The manner in which some genetic diseases has been "curbed" is through a vast expansion of genetic testing and aborting almost every child identified to have genetic mutations--or, in the case of Down syndrome, an extra chromosome.

For the second year in a row, the NRLC offices were graced by the presence of a large contingent from "KIDS" (Keep Infants with Down Syndrome). And for the second year in a row Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-Wa.), who has a son with Down syndrome, met with and spoke to the group. I asked KIDS co-founder Eileen Haupt, who is the alternate director to the NRLC board from Vermont, to summarize the time together. Eileen wrote,

"Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington State's 5th congressional district was the special guest at the KIDS event, bringing her 3-year-old son Cole, who has Down syndrome. Rodgers is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus. The caucus educates members of Congress about Down syndrome and promotes policies that would enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome."

"Rogers spoke about legislation in Congress affecting individuals with Down syndrome and others with special needs. She mentioned the Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act, which was signed into law in the Fall of 2008. This legislation requires families who have received a diagnosis of Down syndrome or other conditions be given up-to-date information, but now requires funding. Another piece of legislation that has been introduced is the ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) Act of 2009, which establishes tax-exempt accounts for the care of family members with disabilities."

My extended family is very familiar with children born with devastating genetic anomalies. I also have friends whose children have Down syndrome. So I know of what I speak and know how couples might be tempted to abort children found to have something like cystic fibrosis or thought to have Down syndrome.

Those who fought their through these doubts and difficulties did so in no small reason because of their faith and because they were blessed with a support system of relatives, friends, and something like KIDS. God bless them all.

Finally, what does it say to the children who evaded the screening? This is no small issue, both for it does to the children and how it coarsens us as a people.

The Associated Press story I alluded to at the beginning includes a quote from Dr. Barron Lerner, a Columbia University medical historian, who wrote an article that appeared in the October 22, 2009, edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.

"If a society is so willing to screen aggressively to find these genes and then to potentially have to abort the fetuses," he observed, "what does that say about the value of the lives of those people living with the diseases?"

Petition Urges KS Supreme Court Send Planned Parenthood's 107 Charges to Trial

Petition Urges KS Supreme Court Send Planned Parenthood's 107 Charges to Trial

The Kansas Supreme Court

Topeka, KS - With 107 criminal charges against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri stalled for months in the Kansas Supreme Court, Operation Rescue has launched a petition to to send the illegal late-term abortion case to trial.

"Planned Parenthood has been investigated. A judge has found that there is probable cause to believe that it has broken the law. One hundred and seven criminal charges have been filed, twenty three of which are felonies. It's time to clear the log-jam, put aside political obstructionism, and allow this case to go forward to trial on its merits," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

Listen to 1-minute radio commentary airing on Bott Radio Network.

Former Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline filed the massive abortion case on October 17, 2007, three months before leaving office. Current District Attorney Steve Howe, a political rival of Kline's, has shown no interest in pursuing a prosecution.

But the case actually began as early as September, 2004, when as Attorney General, Kline issued subpoenas for 90 abortion records from Planned Parenthood and the now-closed Women's Health Care Services. The two abortion clinics refused to comply, launching Kline on a 3-year legal odyssey that involved a complex series of legal maneuvers - many of them conducted in secrecy - that frequently landed the case before the Kansas Supreme Court.

Eventually Kline received the records with all patient identifying information redacted. Those records were the basis for his charges against Planned Parenthood.

However, former Chief Justice Kay McFarland issued an order at the request of the new Attorney General Steven Six, preventing the District Attorney's office from accessing the evidence against Planned Parenthood, and gagging the custodian of those records, District Court Judge Richard Anderson. Subpoenas for other witnesses were quashed.

Anderson had overseen Kline's investigation into illegal abortions from the beginning, and went so far as to seek an opinion from a police handwriting expert who confirmed suspicions that certain evidence had been "manufactured" by Planned Parenthood.

On May 13, 2009, the Kansas Supreme Court heard oral arguments on an appeal asking the Court to reinstate the State's subpoenas for witnesses against Planned Parenthood and for Anderson's gag order to be lifted.

The case has since sat dormant with no ruling in sight. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood continues to collect $300,000 in Kansas tax money and more evidence has surfaced indicating that the abortion group continues to flout the law.

"The criminal case against Planned Parenthood has a complex history that has overshadowed the serious nature of these charges," said Newman. "There has been every effort made by the powers that be in Kansas to impede this case and prevent it from going to trial. That kind of political obstruction in a criminal prosecution is intolerable if public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary is to be maintained."

"Let the witnesses testify and let the evidence come forward at trial and let a judge and jury decide. The petition will let the Court know that the public is watching. It's time for the secrecy and stonewalling to stop."

How a Pro-Life Encounter Changed an Olympian's Life

How a Pro-Life Encounter Changed an Olympian's Life

Kirstin Holum

As America's team of Olympic women speed skaters compete in the Vancouver Winter Olympics this month, one prodigy once expected to shoot to stardom in the sport won't even be watching the broadcast.

Twelve years ago, while only seventeen, Kirstin Holum placed sixth in the 3,000 meter race in the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics - a remarkable feat in a competition usually dominated by older and hardier athletes. But Holum, 29, is now a Catholic nun known as Sister Catherine Mary, and her calling to the religious life has brought her to a convent where no TV or Internet will show the Vancouver Olympics.

Holum says that her conversion was sparked by an experience with the pro-life group Crossroads that she says changed her life.

Crossroads participants make a yearly pilgrimage on foot across the United States to witness against the killing of the unborn. Jim Nolan, a spokesman for the group, told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) that "the untold part of this story is that [Holum] bumped into the 2002 Crossroads pro-life walk across America ... and decided to finish the walk from there to D.C. with them," experiencing "a massive conversion due to her pro-life work that summer." This conversion brought her to the convent.

In a letter that Crossroads received in 2005, the former speed skating champ wrote: "Crossroads completely changed my life! I came onto Crossroads as a mediocre confused Christian and finished as a zealous Roman Catholic."

In a Yahoo! Sports column this week, Holum recounted for writer Martin Rogers the path that took her from the sport that defined her life from a young age - her mother was world-class speed skater Dianne Holum - to a life of working with the poor and homeless as a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal (FSR).

"It is funny now to think of how different my life is now," she told Yahoo! Sports. "I had the wonderful privilege of being able to compete as an Olympian, and now I am blessed to able to serve God and help those less fortunate."  The religious sister also noted that she enjoys watching youngsters open up after she tells them she is a former Olympian.

In the correspondence that Crossroads received from the former skater, she explained that she "had a pretty rough time in college with my faith."

"So when I graduated and had no desire to do anything (really!) God saw an opportunity to work something amazing through Crossroads," says the letter.  "I had never experienced such joyful, young Catholics and I was so inspired."

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for Crossroads and for your intense Pro-Life ministry. Without my Crossroads experience, who knows where I would be!" it concludes.  "Crossroads is not only saving babies, it is raising up strong Pro-Life Catholics. "

Spanish Pro-Lifers Deliver More than One Million Signatures against Abortion Law

Spanish Pro-Lifers Deliver More than One Million Signatures against Abortion Law

Derecho a Vivir

The Spanish pro-life organizations HazteOir (Make Yourself Heard) and it's sister organization Derecho a Vivir (Right to Life) have announced the collection of over one million signatures against Spain's new proposed Abortion Law, which would legalize abortion on demand during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The new law is currently stalled in the Spanish Senate after having been approved in the Congress, which is the nation's lower legislative body.  A coalition of senators from the People's Party, the Union of the People of Navarro, and Convergence and Union (Catalonia) have stepped forward to vote to block passage of the bill.

According to HazteOir, the socialist president of the Spanish Congress, Jose Bono, refused to accept the petition, stating through a representative that the its promoters "want to use it politically to wear down the government."

HazteOir and Derecho a Vivir ultimately delivered the signatures to two vice presidents of the Congress elected from the more conservative People's Party.

Although repeated opinion polls have indicated that Spaniards oppose the new law and would like to see it subjected to a referendum, the PSOE and its allies have insisted on pushing it through.

The text of the petition states that "abortion always brings about the violent death of a human being, and creates a terrible drama for the woman who suffers it, forced by circumstances. ... The law of Spain abandons the woman to her problems and pushes her, bereft of solidarity, to abortion. Every 'abortion law' is a terrible hypocrisy against women, besides being an atrocious injustice against the children that it leaves unprotected."

National Right To Life Committee, GOP Leadership Criticize Two-Bill Strategy For Health Reform

National Right to Life Logo

National Right to Life Committee Legislative Director Douglas Johnson claimed Tuesday that disagreements over abortion-related provisions might be enough to thwart a "two-bill" strategy for passage of health reform legislation, CQ HealthBeat reports. Last week, Wendell Primus -- a senior aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) -- said that he remains optimistic about a strategy in which the House approves changes to the Senate's health bill (HR 3590), with the Senate then approving the legislation via the budget reconciliation process. After that process, the House would pass the Senate's original health bill. According to Primus, both pieces of legislation would then head to President Obama, who would need to sign the original Senate bill first and the reconciliation-passed measure second to "trump the relevant portions of the first-signed bill."

Johnson contended in an e-mail Tuesday that a "substantial number of pro-life Democrats in the House" intend to oppose the Senate bill "with or without a 'sidecar' reconciliation bill because of the abortion problems."

Abortionist Barred From Surgeries Caught Violating Order

"Dr." Andrew Rutland

An undercover investigator says Dr. Andrew Rutland advised her to have a chemical abortion. The lawyer for Rutland, disciplined after an abortion patient's death, says he performed no surgeries. Less than a month after Dr. Andrew Rutland was barred from performing surgeries after an abortion patient's death, state medical authorities say they caught the physician in an undercover sting apparently violating the court order. For the second time in as many months, state officials are seeking the immediate suspension of the Chula Vista physician's license. A hearing is set for Thursday in San Diego. Rutland could not be reached for comment.

Pope Decries "Scourges" of Abortion and Contraception

Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI told a group of visiting Romanian bishops on Friday to resist the "scourges" of abortion and artificial birth control.

The pontiff said the Church should set up "parish consultancy services" for young people to help them combat the "scourges of abortion, corruption, alcoholism and drugs, as well as birth control by methods contrary to the dignity of the human person."

Boston Cardinal: Church Needs 'Clear' Injunction Denying Pro-Abortion Pols Communion

Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston
The best way for the Church to ensure pro-abortion Catholic politicians do not receive Communion would be through a change in the Church's Canon Law, or an official directive from the Pope himself, Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston told LifeSiteNews.com.

LifeSiteNews.com caught up with O'Malley in Washington, DC last month, where he was among the concelebrating bishops for the Vigil Mass for Life at the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. LSN asked O'Malley what he considered the appropriate pastoral response to pro-abortion politicians receiving Communion.

"Well, I think that the only way that that solution [denying communion] should be invoked is if there were a large catechesis or if it was universal for the whole church," the cardinal responded. "You can't have people doing things in one parish and another, you would only divide the Church hopelessly."

UK Hospitals Fail to Obey Safety Orders

Emergency Entrance of a Hospital in the UK

On and on it goes, where it stops, nobody knows: Now UK hospitals are being accused of putting patients' lives at risk by failing to comply with safety orders from central control. From the story:

Hospitals were accused tonight of putting patients' lives at unnecessary risk after research revealed they were failing to comply with NHS orders designed to prevent deaths from mistakes involving drugs, surgery or equipment. Information released by the Department of Health after a freedom of information request showed that hospitals were not complying with safety alerts issued by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA). The NPSA's chairman, Lord Patel of Dunkeld, told the Guardian that the behaviour of the trusts was unacceptable and endangered the health of patients. "It's not good enough," he said. "What's the point of us developing these alerts if they don't pay any attention to them? Alerts are produced to reduce risk and hopefully avoid many deaths, so not to implement them to me is alarming. If they aren't implemented then they run the risk of harm occurring and the danger will continue."

Big Victories, Babies Saved as 40 Days for Life Kicks Off Campaign

Big Victories, Babies Saved as 40 Days for Life Kicks Off Campaign

Would you believe that 40 Days for Life is just starting, and we're already hearing about big victories in the days leading up to the campaign?

In Rockford, Illinois, the city council was asked to establish a bubble zone outside the local abortion center -- a law that could severely restrict pro-life activity there. The alderman who sponsored the proposal said it was needed immediately -- because 40 Days for Life was coming!

The majority of the council thought otherwise, and tabled the proposal for 60 days -- which means the 40 Days for Life campaign will not face unreasonable restrictions!

Riverside, California, the 40 Days for Life kickoff rally

In Riverside, California, the 40 Days for Life kickoff rally took the form of a Jericho march -- 250 people marched around the Planned Parenthood facility, praying for an end to abortion.

The excellent turnout is only part of the good news. "Before we even began, a baby was saved!" said Pam, one of the local coordinators in Riverside. Two of the participants met a mother of four who was arriving for an abortion. "They prayed with her and the Holy Spirit came upon her and there were many tears," said Pam.

"She made a decision for life!"

In Syracuse, New York the 40 Days for Life kickoff event was just as enthusiastic -- and certainly a lot colder! The group gathered to sing, pray and celebrate victories outside the Planned Parenthood center that is the nation's oldest free-standing abortion facility.

During the fall 40 Days for Life campaign, Planned Parenthood laid off two employees, one of whom thanked vigil participants for praying -- and promised she would never go back into that place again.

40 Days for Life Kick off in New York

In Augusta, Maine, local 40 Days for Life coordinator Janet LeBlanc was joined at the kickoff event by Nicole Peck, who helped launch the first 40 Days for Life efforts in Norwich, Connecticut. The teamwork that 40 Days for Life fosters is really helping this mission spread!

There's more good news here as well. The abortion center in Augusta, Maine is reporting that it will be losing almost $400,000 in state funding because of budget issues. Janet says people now pray regularly in front of that clinic, and "God has been listening."

Have you signed up to pray at your local 40 Days for Life vigil? If not, please do!

If you have, please take another hour! Who knows what blessings will be in store?

The abortion clinic and other novel ideas of Adolf Hitler

The abortion clinic and other novel ideas of Adolf Hitler

On the heels of the provocative "Black Children are an Endangered Species" billboard campaign currently running in Atlanta, Ga., comes another, this one in Poland.

Next week the Polish arm of the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform will begin displaying this sign on a huge billboard (74 feet by 32 feet) in a large city in Poland, remaining unnamed for now so as not to jeopardize the plan.

Center for Bio-Ethical Reform Polish billboard

Translation: Abortion for Polish women introduced by Hitler on March 9, 1943

Coincidentally, March 8 is International Women's Day, a special day for feminists in Poland. Each year to celebrate they organize demonstrations in major cities, including Poznan, to demand abortion without limits.

Adolf Hitler was so ahead of his time.

The sign is true, by the way. According to Wapedia (emphasis mine):

Until 1932, abortion was banned in Poland without exceptions. In that year a new Penal Code legalized abortion strictly when there were medical reasons and, for the first time in Europe, when the pregnancy resulted from a criminal act. Except during the German occupation during the Second World War, this law was in effect from 1932 to 1956.

During the German occupation of Poland and other European countries, abortion was an important method Hitler used to exterminate non-Aryans. According to Wiki Answers (emphasis mine):

    Did Hitler support abortion?

Yes. In fact, he was the first major Western leader to allow abortion even for reasons of the stress of the mother – thus making it legal in nearly every circumstance. His idea was to limit the growth of populations (lessen them, actually) in the Eastern territories where he wanted the German empire to expand – while increasing pregnancies and births to "Aryan" couples.

Under Hitler's guidance, the Berlin Chamber of Physicians loosened the Nazis' abortion policy in 1933 so as to use abortion as a tool to exterminate nondesirables. It determined "the health of the mother – considered from all angles – is the decisive factor" for abortions.

Flash forward to the U.S. Supreme Court's definition of the abortion health exception in its Jan. 22, 1973, Doe v. Bolton decision, which was, "all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman's age – relevant to the well-being of the patient."

Great minds think alike, or plagiarize sometimes.

Hitler introduced the novel concept of free-standing abortion mills in a 1942 policy statement (emphasis mine):

In view of the large families of the Slav native population, it could only suit us if girls and women there had as many abortions as possible. We are not interested in seeing the non-German population multiply. ...

We must use every means to instill in the population the idea that it is harmful to have several children, the expenses that they cause and the dangerous effect on woman's health. ...

It will be necessary to open special institutions for abortions and doctors must be able to help out there in case there is any question of this being a breach of their professional ethics.

What vision. Hitler would no doubt have approved of locating American abortion clinics in minority neighborhoods.

Probably the most universally accepted of Hitler's concepts today is that of "'positive eugenics' to encourage desirable births," described by Israeli Dr. Tessa Chelouche in her 2007 study, "Doctors, Pregnancy, Childbirth and Abortion during the Third Reich":

In 1933 professor Wagner, director of the women's clinic of Berlin's Charite Hospital and editor of a prestigious gynecology journal, declared "the nation's stock of the ovaries a national resource and property of the German state." He called for "mandatory care for these vital organs, vital not only for the individual but for the health and future of the entire Volk."

Today we see Hitler's dream of creating that perfect human race played out in the prevalent practice of paying smart, beautiful, young women for their eggs, or to be inseminated with sperm from equally attractive med students, all to create bright, beautiful children, usually blonde-haired and blue-eyed.

Hitler could never have dreamed of our scientific community's current endeavors to grow strong embryos in the petri dish to harvest cells, tissue and organs to replace faltering cells, tissue and organs in we super humans.

We're so advanced.

Citizens of Mississippi, the Most Pro-Life State in the US Send Message to Lawmakers: 'Personhood Rights For the Preborn Now'

Citizens of Mississippi, the Most Pro-Life State in the US Send Message to Lawmakers: 'Personhood Rights For the Preborn Now'

Personhood Mississippi Turns in Over 130,000 Signatures! Lt Gov Helps Carry Them Into SOS.

Personhood Mississippi, a citizen-led grassroots organization, submitted over 130,000 signatures late yesterday, becoming the fourth ballot initiative since 1992 to fulfill the requirement of 89,285 voter signatures.

The signatures were collected in order to put a Personhood amendment on the ballot, affirming the personhood rights of all humans. Volunteers have been collecting signatures since February 12 2009.

105,000 of the submitted signatures were certified as valid by 82 different County Circuit Clerks.
The abundance of signatures broke the state record for signatures in every other initiative in Mississippi history.

Comprised of all volunteers, Personhood Mississippi laid claim to over 2,000 volunteers and over 1,000 churches. Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant was present at yesterday's press conference, helping to turn in the boxes of completed petitions.

"Despite the superfluous restrictions set before us, the people of Mississippi have spoken. With God's blessing we have made history and exceeded the signature requirement by tens of thousands," stated Les Riley, sponsor of the Mississippi Personhood Amendment. "In the next few days, we fully expect Secretary of State Dilbert Hosemann to approve our amendment, as we have exceeded all requirements by the State of Mississippi."

Once each district's signatures are verified, the amendment will be placed on the November 2011 ballot.

"The overwhelming number of signatures proves that Mississippi citizens want to end baby-murder," commented Cal Zastrow, co-founder of Personhood USA. "God raised up the volunteers to complete this task, and Personhood USA is thrilled to be a part of that task force. Now we are looking forward to victory at the ballot box!"

Young Counselor Threatened with Knife Learns that Baby Was Saved from Abortion

Young Counselor Threatened with Knife Learns that Baby Was Saved from Abortion

Leah Winandy (left), Mechelle Talluah Hall (right)

Three months after being threatened with a knife to her throat by a woman entering an abortion mill, 21-year-old pro-life counselor Leah Winandy has learned that her attacker has decided not to abort her child – and credits Leah and Leah's mother for saving her from a life of regret.

Leah Winandy reacted by praising God and expressed her excitement and happiness for Mechelle Talluah Hall, who pled guilty yesterday to second-degree assault.  Under a plea agreement she was placed on probation.

Hall revealed to the Duluth Tribune News that, thanks to the Winandys, she never did go through with the abortion as she had intended.  Hall told reporter Mark Stodghill that she thanked the Winandys for being there.  "If they weren't there, I probably would have gone through with it and regretted it for the rest of my life. It probably would have gone the other way. I'm sincerely sorry for doing that to her."

Leah Winandy reacted to the news in an interview with LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) today.  "I was very excited and praising God - this is the work of the Lord," she said.

Winandy said she forgave Hall for her attack immediately after the incident in late November and bears her no resentment. "I'm so excited for Mechelle that she has her baby," she said. All Winandy hopes now is that Hall will turn to Christ.

Asked if she would do it over again, Winandy said, "Yes I would because I see that God has used it for good," she said. "What Satan meant for evil, God used for good.  God's going to glorify His name."

Even if things had not turned out so well, if Winandy had been hurt or even killed, that would not have dissuaded her from reaching out in love to Hall, she said. "My life is in God's hands and I'm not afraid of what happens," she said.

Winandy concluded by encouraging others to become involved in pro-life counseling.  "I would really encourage other pro-lifers considering counseling just to obey. God said to rescue those that are drawn away to death. We need to obey His commands. He is a voice for those who have no voice."

Winandy concluded: "He's going to take care of us. Whether we make that ultimate sacrifice or whatever He calls us to do it's not too much for His sake and the babies."

Portland Pro-Lifers Rally against New Abortion Supercenter

Portland Pro-Lifers Rally against New Abortion Supercenter

Artist Rendering of the new Portland Planned Parenthood

Oregonian pro-lifers spent a cold and drizzly Valentine's Day afternoon outside in Portland protesting the opening of a new Planned Parenthood "supercenter," whose completion they have actively resisted for years.

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) celebrated the opening of its huge $12.5 million headquarters, which is equipped to perform abortions, in Northeast Portland.  Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, lauded the occasion as "expanding health care access" to women.

Outside, pro-life speakers rallied the crowd throughout the afternoon against the new abortion mill. The speakers included pastors and post-abortive women with Silent No More Awareness, who shared their stories.

"To me, it was totally like good and evil coming to grips with each other," said Carolyn Wendell, projects director of Oregon Right to Life, who was at the rally.

Wendell told LifeSiteNews.com that she estimated that about 60-70 pro-lifers were present, while her group counted about 15-20 young pro-abortion protesters.  Wendell said pro-life messages and images of aborted children competed with pro-abort signs, with slogans that included "My boyfriend wears a condom," "I ovulate, you shut up," and "There is no God, only science."

"It's sad that they let these kids believe this ignorance and to their destruction, and live off them and their ignorance," said Wendell.

The Portland facility had faced considerable pro-life grassroots opposition which hampered its construction.  In 2008, Walsh Construction backed out of building the new Planned Parenthood facility under pressure from local pro-lifers.  Led by the local pro-life group Precious Children of Portland, pro-lifers also reportedly boycotted contractors and plumbers engaged in the Planned Parenthood project.

Like the abortion "supercenter" that opened in Houston Texas last month, the new facility is located in a predominantly African-American neighborhood, prompting pro-life charges of "racism" on the part of Planned Parenthood.  PPCW's previous headquarters was located in an area with a population about 1% African-Americans; the new location is about 43% African-American.

Planned Parnethood and Nazi logos

Planned Parenthood Nazis This portion of the Death Camps tour looks at the history of holocaust. By comparing Germany's Nazi holocaust and America's abortion holocaust you'll see there is practically no difference between the mindset of holocaust then and now. As with slavery in early America, killing Jews in Nazi Germany, or killing babies in America today -- just because something is legal does not make it right. So how do you get a country to allow humans to be treated worse than animals? You use euphemisms to convince people that these actions are justifiable, or even beneficial.

Nevada 'Personhood' Advocates Appeal Court Ruling

Personhood Nevada logo

Proponents of an initiative to change Nevada abortion law are asking the state Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling blocking circulation of their petition. Personhood Nevada organization President Olaf Vancura said Tuesday there's still enough time to get the petition on the November ballot if the high court grants an expedited hearing and rules quickly. Carson City District Court Judge James Russell decided Jan. 8 the petition was vague and violated a state law limiting ballot questions to one subject. A Personhood Nevada lawyer argued the intent of the proposed constitutional amendment is to protect the dignity [sic] of human life. He said future courts would decide how to apply the law. The ACLU of Nevada and Planned Parenthood argued the initiative would have sweeping effects on abortion.

New York Times Editorial Praises DOD Decision To Stock Emergency Contraception At Military Facilities

mobile army hospital

The Department of Defense's decision to stock emergency contraception at military facilities worldwide "marked welcome, if overdue, progress in meeting the needs of women serving the United States in the military," a New York Times editorial states. The move came after the Pentagon's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee voted in November 2009 to include EC on the list of mandatory drugs for military facilities. The panel issued similar recommendations in 2002, but the Bush administration "chose to ill-treat servicewomen -- including victims of sexual assault -- to placate antiabortion extremists who view emergency contraception as a form of abortion."

The military's exclusion of EC from its facilities became even "harder to justify" once FDA approved the medication for over-the-counter sales. The DOD's decision to offer EC "is all the more significant given the serious, continuing problem of sexual assaults among service members," according to the editorial.

Five prominent members of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy for Life are calling on the pope to remove Archbishop Rino Fisichella as the Academy's president following their plenary meeting in Rome last week.

According to these key PAV members, Fisichella has manipulated both the media and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in order to deflect blame for damage to the Church caused by an article he wrote last year in which he appeared to condone the abortion of twins in Brazil.

Fisichella told Catholic News Service on February 12 that a state of "harmony" existed in the PAV. He said that the mood at last week's meeting was "serene and calm." He also accused his critics of "misconstruing" his article "for reasons of political exploitation," in order to create "a situation of conflict."

Sign the Declaration of Health Care Independence

Join 100 members of Congress, thousands more, in standing up for Constitution

Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., signs the Declaration of Health Care Independence the Republicans unveiled ahead of the State of the Union on Capitol Hill in Washington

In less than two days, more than 6,200 Americans have joined the nearly 100 lawmakers who have signed a formal Declaration of Health Care Independence.

The statement is simple and thorough in its rejection of Washington plans to take over the nation's health care as unconstitutional.

It states:

We, therefore, the People and Representatives of the United States of America, do solemnly Publish and Declare that health care reform, as a matter of principle, must:

        * Protect as inviolate the vital doctor-patient relationship;

        * Reject any addition to the crushing national debt heaped upon all Americans;

        * Improve, rather than diminish, the quality of care that Americans enjoy;

        * Be negotiated publicly, transparently, with genuine accountability and oversight;

        * Treat private citizens at least as well as political officials;

        * Protect taxpayers from funding of abortion and abortion coverage;

        * Reject all new mandates on patients, employers, individuals or states;

        * Prohibit expansion of taxpayer-funded health care to those unlawfully present in the United States;

        * Guarantee Equal Protection under the law and the Constitution;

        * Empower, rather than limit, an open and accessible marketplace of health care choice and opportunity.

Largest-Ever Spring 40 Days for Life Set to Start Wednesday

Largest-Ever Spring 40 Days for Life Set to Start Wednesday

40 Days for Life logo

The largest-ever 40 Days for Life spring campaign is set to begin in 165 cities across the globe this Wednesday.

"We have always been amazed at how God shows up when his people pray and fast, when they stand vigil outside of abortion facilities, and when they conduct grassroots outreach," David Bereit, National Campaign Director of 40 Days for Life, told LifeSiteNews.com Monday.  "What we're most excited about this time is to be amazed once again."

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that works to end abortion through 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil outside of abortion facilities, and community outreach.

"We have seen so many miracles" in past campaigns, Bereit recounted, "from 2,168 babies, that we know of, saved [in] past 40 Days for Life campaigns.   We've seen over 300,000 people involved in past 40 Days for Life campaigns.

"We've seen five abortion centers closed down following 40 Days for Life campaigns, and 28 abortion workers who have left their jobs as a result of 40 Days for Life."

40 Day for Life began in the fall of 2004, after a pro-life group in Bryan, Texas, prayed for an answer about how to reduce abortion in their area.  The campaign lead to a 28 percent decline in abortions in their community.  Soon the idea caught on in other areas and the first national 40 Days for Life campaign was conducted in the fall of 2007.

Since then, two 40 Days for Life campaigns have been held each year, one in spring and one in fall.

The Fall 2009 40 Days for Life campaign became an occasion of special celebration when Abby Johnson, the director of the Bryan Planned Parenthood where the campaign began, experienced a conversion and resigned after watching an abortion on an ultrasound machine.  She is now an active pro-life advocate with 40 Days for life.

This spring's campaign will be conducted not only in the United States, but also in Canada, Northern Ireland, and Australia.

This campaign promises to be the largest spring campaign yet; fall efforts tend to be larger than those in the spring because of colder weather.  Last spring, 135 cities across North America, Canada, Northern Ireland, and Australia participated.

'As America Celebrates Black History Month Planned Parenthood Continues in the Tradition of the KKK'

'As America Celebrates Black History Month Planned Parenthood Continues in the Tradition of the KKK'

In the words of the late 'Golden Girl' Estelle Getty, picture this...

Civil Rights Act Signing

The year is 1865. The Civil War finally comes to an end and the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially abolishes slavery.

For awhile, things looked pretty good for freed slaves. Just a year after the Civil War ended, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act, conferring citizenship and equal rights for black people. A few months later, Congress approved the Fourteenth Amendment guaranteeing due process and equal protection under the law to all citizens.

Two years after the Civil War, in 1867, Congress passed Reconstruction Acts. The status of the Negro was the focal problem of Reconstruction. Though slavery had been abolished the white people of the South were determined to keep the Negro in his place, socially, politically, and economically. Enter the notorious "Black Codes." These codes were regarded as a revival of slavery in disguise. The first such body of statutes was enacted in the state of Mississippi in November 1865.

That same year in Tennessee, a group of ex-Confederate soldiers formed the KKK, a group of domestic terrorists with a focused objective: to intimidate freed former slaves and their white supporters. Klan terrorism succeeded in preventing African-Americans from using their newly won rights. The Klan's aim was to prevent African-Americans from voting, getting an education, competing for jobs and owning property.

By 1869, Congress approved the Fifteenth Amendment guaranteeing African Americans the right to vote.

Congress approved the Civil Rights Act in March of 1875 and by 1883 it was overturned. On October 15, the Supreme Court declared the Civil Rights Act of 1875 unconstitutional. The court declared that the Fourteenth Amendment forbids states, but not citizens from practicing discrimination.

From 1870 to 1895, many blacks gained elective office throughout the Nation, but outbreaks of violence against blacks in the South became more and more common.

It wasn't long before America's cities were over-flowing with former slaves and their extended families. They were migrating north to seek employment opportunities in industrial cities and to escape racism, and violence. The Great Migration from the south to north began around 1915. More than 4 million blacks--former farmers and field workers became bell hops, butlers, maids, doormen, cooks, and nannies--they shined shoes and cleaned toilets. They attended schools--many started businesses or became teachers and by 1920, African American writers, poets and artists emerged in a period of creativity known as the Harlem Renaissance. Black people started to realize the American Dream came not only in white--but black and shades of gray, as well.

Meanwhile, the KKK was raging a lynching war on Negroes in the south and Margaret Sanger and friends were devising an evil plan of their own. She was a staunch believer in eugenic controls to enforce what she called "race hygiene." She associated with known racists and in 1926 she was the guest speaker at a Ku Klux Klan rally in Silverlake, New Jersey.

In Margaret Sanger's book The Pivot of Civilization, (published 1922), she also called for the elimination of "human weeds," for the segregation of "morons, misfits, and maladjusted," and for the sterilization of "genetically inferior races."

In 1939, Sanger's NEGRO PROJECT was initiated. The plan was simple-get rid of black people. Kill them off by limiting the growth of the population by abortion and sterilization

She knew that some blacks would figure out their sinister plot so it was decided by Sanger to take the plan to the clergy and charismatic members the black community to have them deliver the death message to their congregations.

In a letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble Sanger stated, "We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. And the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

Notice that Sanger said the ministers should be "hired." There are many black ministers, politicians and community organizers today who support abortion, Sanger's form of ethnic cleansing--most of them are still "hired." They have sold their souls for "30 pieces of silver."

Margaret Sanger went on to become the founder of Planned Parenthood an organization that makes most of its blood money by killing children--especially black children.

Abortion providers are still being located for the most part in black neighborhoods and are still delivering the same old message--that black, poor children, living in urban areas--are not worthy of life. America would be a better place without black people.

The KKK brutally killed about 3500 black people since it began in 1865--Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood is responsible for the more than 17 million black deaths since 1973.

Every day more than 5000 babies are slaughtered by the blades of the abortion butchers--decapitated, ripped apart...killed.

How can America say we are better than the regimes of the Holocaust, Darfur, Sudan or China if we allow the butchering of America's innocent children to continue?

This is Black History Month. Let's remember why the killing began and then vow in Jesus' name to end it...picture that!

Susan B. Anthony museum opens today amidst abortion controversy

Susan B. Anthony museum opens today amidst abortion controversy

Susan B. Anthony Museum

Today (February 15th) marks the grand opening of the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace and Museum, in Rochester, NY.

Anthony was a leading figure in the women's rights movement, famously arrested in 1872 for the crime of voting.

Anthony also considered abortion a strike against women's rights....

According to About.com (owned by the New York Times Co.), Anthony, "believed, as did many of the feminists of her era, that only the achievement of women's equality and freedom would end the need for abortion. Anthony used her anti-abortion writings as yet another argument for women's rights."

Today's feminists cannot stand that part of Susan B. Anthony's history.

While some dispute Anthony was even pro-life at all, most say her pro-life belief should be placed in context: "Comparisons between contemporary and 19th century debates over abortion are meaningless because of the different cultural contexts, [Gloria] Feldt [former Planned Parenthood president] added." Yadda yadda.

Yet pro-lifers have prevailed against revisionist history. Most of us, for instance, have heard of the Susan B. Anthony List a PAC dedicated to electing pro-life women to Congress, obviously invoking the famous feminist's name.

And it was a pro-lifer who bought Anthony's birthplace, insuring the pro-life part of Anthony's persona wouldn't be scrubbed from her bio. Carol Crossed is a member of Feminists Choosing Life of NY (formerly Feminists for Life of NY), the group controlling SBABM's board.

This has caused liberal feminists to get their corsets wound in a knot, to the point of protesting in front of SBABM and launching a counter website.

Still, abortion will be a very small component of the museum. According to The Berkshire Eagle:

When asked if this meant the Museum would be a platform for an anti-abortion agenda, Crossed said, "The pro-life views expressed in Anthony's newspaper, The Revolution, will not be excluded from the exhibition. This vision represented a very small part of Anthony's life, and while it will be presented, it will not be an overwhelming theme of the birthplace. Anthony's own anti-abortion stance is mentioned in just one of the museum's 10 exhibits."
Still, it'll be there.

Millions Reconsider Pro-Abortion Views After Watching Super Bowl Ad

Millions Reconsider Pro-Abortion Views After Watching Super Bowl Ad

Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad

About 6 percent of those who watched the pro-family Tim Tebow ad during the Super Bowl said it made them reconsider their views on abortion, according to a study by the Barna Group.

That comes out to about 5 million people.

Political and social pundits spilled a lot of ink in the weeks running up to the Super Bowl on the ad featuring Tim and Pam Tebow.

In the 30-second spot, produced by Focus on the Family, Pam alluded to her decision to keep her son despite the medical danger of carrying him to term. Tim, of course, grew up to be a Heisman Trophy winner.

David Kinnaman, president of the Barna Group, conducted the survey one week after the game, to see how the ad was perceived.

Among the findings:

Forty-three percent of those who tuned in to the game saw the ad. That amounts to every fourth person in America.
Six in 10 who saw the ad said they had heard about it prior to the Super Bowl.
More than 3 in 4 who saw it said it was a positive ad.
Two out of 3 viewers who self-identified as pro-abortion said the ad was appropriate.
Gary Schneeberger, vice president of Ministry Communications at Focus on the Family, said one goal was to bring the issue of life to the forefront.
"This ad is a way to get a dialogue going in the culture, which happened for two weeks in advance of the ad airing," he said, "where we talked about the issue of life and the sanctity of human life."
Kinnaman said the ad was a game-changer.

"Asking people to think about something differently rather than telling them what to think," he said, "may be something of a standard for the future."

Man Arrested for Questioning Rep. Kennedy on Abortion Goes to Court

Man Arrested for Questioning Rep. Kennedy on Abortion Goes to Court

Christopher Young is removed by police from a forum on health care on the campus of Brown University in Providence.

Attorneys from the Chicago- based Thomas More Society are appearing in Providence municipal court Wednesday for a hearing on their motion to dismiss disorderly conduct charges against Christopher Young. Young, a Democratic mayoral candidate, was arrested and dragged away to jail after questioning Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-Rhode Island, about his pro-abortion views at an open forum on health care at Brown University last November.

Thomas More Society attorneys argue that Young was not "disorderly" but rather was exercising his First Amendment rights when he questioned Rep. Kennedy about his support for abortion in health care reform and tossed a video onto the table at which the Congressman was seated. The video was Maafa 21, a documentary on the history of abortion aimed at African-Americans that charges Planned Parenthood and other abortionists with "black genocide."

Young had asked Kennedy, "Why would you mandate Catholics to support the funding of abortion when it goes against our religious beliefs? It forces Catholics to fund abortions or serve a five year prison sentence."

"You make it a felony," he said. "This is not a free country. You are forcing people to support a bill that goes against the religious beliefs of the people of this country."

Tom Brejcha, chief counsel for the Thomas More Society said in a press release on Tuesday that, "Young was wholly within his rights in putting tough questions to Kennedy, who never answered but sat smugly and watched while his questioner was muzzled, handcuffed and hauled off to jail."

Brejcha added, "Kennedy had argued that every person has a divine spark that entitles him or her to health care, and this provoked questions from Young, also a Catholic, as to how Kennedy could advocate health care laws suppressing conscience rights of Catholics and others who deem it abhorrent that the divine spark is snuffed out in so many infants before they even see the light of day."

The hearing to dismiss charges will take place Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.

Pro-life Congressman Exhorts U.N. Ambassadors to “Push Back” for Right to Life

Pro-life Congressman Exhorts U.N. Ambassadors to "Push Back" for Right to Life

U.S. Congressman Chris Smith

Veteran pro-life leader and U.S. Congressman Chris Smith addressed the delegates of more than thirty countries at the U.N. Ambassador's Luncheon on Friday. At the luncheon he reminded them that the defense of the right to life for human beings, both born and unborn, rests at the heart of the founding of the United Nations and its successful mission.

"You are the heirs and guarantors of the U.N. founders' vision that there can be no way forward — no progress individually or collectively — if members of the human family anywhere or in anyway are deemed expendable, marginal or subhuman," said US Rep. Smith, who was the keynote speaker for the speaking event, titled "The Inherent Right to Life: the First and Most Fundamental Human Right."

Smith reminded the gathered assembly of Ambassadors, Deputy Permanent Representatives, and Diplomats that the U.N was formed in response to the "unprecedented agony — and depravity - of global war." With the world having experienced the atrocities of Nazi genocide and Imperial Japanese war crimes, the U.N. was formed to promote the recognition of "fundamental human rights" in order to avoid armed conflict.

Smith recalled how the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948 "recognized the existence of the right to life, liberty … and other basic rights inherent in our nature as human beings" without a single dissenting vote and that the UN's Universal Declaration "itself made clear that member states must recognize the 'inherent dignity' and the 'equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family.'"

Fundamental rights, if they are not "mere privileges conveyed by civil authority," must then "come from God" Smith stated, making it the obligation of states "to recognize these God-given rights and then act decisively."

"The most persecuted minority in much of the world are unborn children," the Congressman continued. Despite the invention of ultrasound and the availability of "microsurgery and fetal health interventions," Smith said that "some have chosen this time in history to dehumanize and exclude unborn babies."

Smith told the assembly that the pro-life movement is "the greatest human rights struggle on earth" and made very clear that the U.N. was a battlefield on which the battle for the human dignity of the unborn was constantly being fought.

"Each and every UN special meeting — including the summit for children — has become a battleground and the upcoming [Commission on the Status of Women] and the discussions on Beijing 15 and implementation of the Beijing Platform will be no exception," said Smith. "Additionally, many of your government officials have been or will soon be scolded by pro-abortion 'experts' at periodic CEDAW reviews in an attempt to 'persuade' you to abandon your protections for women and children from the violence of abortion.

"I encourage you to resist and push back.  The voiceless desperately need friends and advocates in high places.  They need you," the Congressman continued.

Smith expressed his concern that pro-abortion advocates were attempting to "hijack" goal five of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals – reducing maternal mortality – by advocating for the legalization of abortion on demand under the guise of saving women's lives. But the data, he said, shows the contrary to what pro-abortion advocates assert: countries with pro-life laws actually have lower instances of maternal mortality.

"Chile, a country which has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Latin America, has the lowest maternal mortality rates in South America while Guyana, a country which has permitted abortion since 1995 has a maternal mortality rate 29 times higher than Chile," said Smith. "In Asia, Nepal permits unrestricted abortion and has one of the world's highest rates of maternal mortality.  Pro-life Sri Lanka on the other hand is fourteen times lower than Nepal."

"I would respectfully submit that if we are truly serious about reducing maternal mortality, women, especially in the developing world, need access to proper maternal health care, skilled birth attendants, safe blood and clinics where obstructed deliveries can be turned into safe passages," said Smith.  According to one doctor from the World Health Organization, just the availability of safe blood for transfusions could reduce maternal mortality by 44 percent, he added.

Earlier in his speech, Smith noted that the UN's Universal Declaration stated that the "disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts." But few things brought the point home more than the devastating impact of China's "one-child policy": a legacy of forced abortions and coerced sterilizations on millions of Chinese women, under which regime "unwed mothers are all compelled to abort," and ruinous punitive fines are imposed on families that have more than one child.

"No wonder 500 Chinese women commit suicide each day in China," said Smith.

Smith recounted the testimony of a Chinese student named Wuijan, who testified before an official congressional human rights hearing on China's one child policy convened in November, and described the experience of forced abortion as her "journey in hell." Smith quoted her testimony, "She said: '…the room was full of moms who had just gone through a forced abortion.  Some moms were crying. Some moms were mourning.  Some moms were screaming.  And one mom was rolling on the floor with unbearable pain.'"

"Silence in the face of massive crimes against women in China — women like Wuijan -  shouldn't be an option."

'No Place to Hide' - Texas County Receives Informative Postcards about Baby Killers

West Side Clinic

A gynecologist who performs abortions in Tarrant County is the target of a postcard campaign which lists his home and work addresses along with names of five of his staff members. The postcard is printed in black-and-white and it is unsigned. On the front is a picture of Dr. Michael S. Phillips next to the question: "Have you seen this person?" When it's flipped over, the postcard lists the doctor's name, and three addresses — including his home. It goes on to reveal names of five staff members. Vulnerable Need Reason to Life, Not Right to Die

Elderly woman in wheelchair

Two high-profile cases of mothers helping their children to die have renewed the debate on assisted suicide. But the coverage threatens to skew public opinion dangerously in favour of a change in the law. When one person is found to have had a hand in the death of another, that person should be investigated and made to account for their actions in court, in accordance with the law that protects us all. The death of a disabled person should be investigated with the same vigour as a non-disabled person.

Freedom Of Choice Act introduced in Illinois again!

Freedom Of Choice Act introduced in Illinois again!

HOUSE BILL 6205 - The so-called Reproductive Health and Access Act (disguised Freedom Of Choice Act - FOCA) has been introduced in Illinois.

This bill will STOP the Parental Notice of Abortion Law and Greatly Expand Taxpayer Funding in Millions of Dollars for Abortions and much more!

Remember, this bill is just another version of HB 2354 from last year's FOCA bill.  Pro-Lifers strongly opposed and stopped that bill last year!

Click here to contact your Representatives, urge them to vote NO on HB 6205!

What HB 6205 Will Do...

HB 6205 WILL “GUT” THE ILLINOIS PARENTAL NOTICE OF ABORTION ACT

HB 6205 will establish a “fundamental right” to abortion more restrictive than Roe v. Wade. The bill would “gut” the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act so that no parental notice will be allowed, because under HB 6205, notice would be considered to “interfere with a pregnant woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy.” [Section 15 (a)(3)] This is regardless of age!

Trying to hide this fact, HB 6205 says it is not meant to repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. However, you don’t have to be a seasoned legislator to know that often a statute is amended by a bill that substantially changes and alters the statute without repealing it. HB 6205 clearly says in Section 15, and in a number of other sections, “Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any other law to the contrary” which all legislators should know means that the section “trumps” any existing part of the Act and any other statute enacted before the Act.

The language purports to allow for regulation after viability but the too broad “health” exception undermines even that. In Doe v. Bolton, the U.S. Supreme Court companion decision with Roe v. Wade, “health’ was to be considered in “light of all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age”, in other words, abortions must be allowed for virtually any reason throughout the full nine months of pregnancy!

TAXPAYER FUNDING OF ABORTIONS UNDER MEDICAID AND STATE EMPLOYEE HEALTH POLICIES MUST PAY FOR ALL ABORTIONS FOR ANY REASON.

Illinois’s ban on taxpayer funded abortions was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1980. Before the ban, Illinois paid for 12,738 abortions [1977-1978 fiscal year], as opposed to a few hundred today. Under Section 20 in HB 6205, this bill will force taxpayers to pay for abortions for any reason! At a Medicaid rate of around $180 per abortion, that would cost the State of Illinois about $2.3 million.

Section 20 “Non-discrimination in funding.” states “Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any other law to the contrary, the State shall ensure that individuals eligible for State Medicaid assistance, or other State medical assistance, receive financial assistance for reproductive healthcare at least to the same extent as other comparable services.”
Additionally, “reproductive health care” is undefined in the bill but can be presumed to include abortion, Plan B, and the morning after pill, even sterilizations for all ages.

HB 6205 MANDATES ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO OFFER “COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION PROGRAMS”
MOST OF WHICH PROMOTE AND FOSTER CONDOM TRAINING AND ABORTION FOR STUDENTS AS YOUNG AS NINE YEARS OLD!

Section 30 “Sexual health education.” states “Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any other law, ALL Illinois public schools shall offer medically accurate, age appropriate, comprehensive sexual health education as a part of the Comprehensive Health Education Program…”

No longer would local school districts be able to determine their curriculums in this area; every public school student in the state would have to be enrolled in “comprehensive” sex education. What proponents of “comprehensive sex education’ consider “age appropriate” is not what most of us would consider so!

Additionally, HB 6205 removes, under the State’s “Comprehensive Health Education Program” the long-standing public policy of Illinois in teaching that “sexual abstinence until marriage” should be taught to our children in schools.

For these reasons please urge your Illinois House Representative to Vote NO on HB 6205 now!
