VIDEO: Brother of woman who died from abortion at Planned Parenthood: Abortion is not a safe procedure

Tyler Sheppard, the brother of a woman who died from a botched Planned Parenthood
“As long as they’re gonna be open, there’s gonna be more deaths…. They’re killing people. Not just babies; they’re killing women as well.” Those are the words of Tyler Sheppard, the brother of a woman who died from a botched Planned Parenthood abortion. Sheppard is speaking out about the horrific treatment his sister, Cree Erwin-Sheppard, received at the hands of a Michigan Planned Parenthood. Sheppard also alleges that Bronson Battle Creek Hospital may have helped to cover up Planned Parenthood’s negligence in his sister’s case.

“We approached Planned Parenthood to try to get Cree’s medical documents from them, but they weren’t willing to give them to us,” Sheppard said in a new video interview by Live Action. “Justice has not been given to my sister. I lost two people that day — not just a sister, but a niece or a nephew, as well.”

Pain-Capable Senate Vote: The One Percenters' Club

Pain-Capable Senate Vote: The One Percenters' Club
How often does Congress have the chance to directly prevent, with a single legislative act, the certain infliction of extreme physical pain on thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of helpless and innocent victims?

Last week, the U.S. Senate missed an opportunity to do just that when 44 Democrats and two Republicans closed down debate on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The Act would have prohibited abortion after 20 weeks (five months) gestation, a stage at which unborn children can experience excruciating physical pain.

The science is so clear on this point that hospitals now give anesthesia to children at this age when they undergo surgery in utero. But not when they are aborted by dismemberment or by piercing their bodies with a large needle to inject poison that causes heart failure.

What would possess an individual, much less 46 members of Congress, to oppose legislation prohibiting this cruelty?

Planned Parenthood refused to stop committing abortions to get U.S. aid money: gov’t report

Planned Parenthood refused to stop committing abortions to get U.S. aid money: gov’t report
The U.S. State Department issued a new report today revealing that 729 out of 733 organizations accepted the Trump administration’s requirement they not commit or perform abortion as a condition of receiving aid money.

Two of the organizations who wouldn’t cease committing and promoting abortions were International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International. The names of the other two are not yet public. Government grants to the 733 organizations were up for renewal, and they had to demonstrate compliance with the Mexico City Policy in order to obtain funding.

“Loose Women” star reveals trauma of miscarriage after abortion

Nadia Sawalha has spoken out powerfully about her experiences with miscarriage and abortion.
Nadia Sawalha has spoken out powerfully about her experiences with miscarriage and abortion.

English actress and television presenter Nadia Sawalha has revealed how she felt that her multiple miscarriages were a “punishment” for an earlier abortion].

The “Loose Women” star mentioned the abortion during a moving podcast titled ‘Dealing With the Heartbreak of Miscarriage‘, produced with her husband, TV producer Mark Adderley.

“I felt it was a punishment”

While discussing the trauma of her first miscarriage, she said: “Of course, I had had a termination years before. And I think, you know, all that guilt came up. And I was thinking, ‘Is this a punishment?’ “And with each subsequent miscarriage, I felt like that. I felt it was a punishment.”

More gut-wrenching testimony in the case of grievously ill Alfie Evans

More gut-wrenching testimony in the case of grievously ill Alfie Evans
Reading the summary notes offered online by Liverpool Echo reporter Tom Berger is almost like being at the gut-wrenching hearing in which Mr. Justice Hayden will decide the fate of Alfie Evans, the grievously ill 20-month-old son of Tom Evans, 21, and Kate James, 20.

Each day’s hearing is more heartrending than the day before. The parents want Alfie to be flown to the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome for possible treatment. The staff at Alder Hey in Birmingham, England, argues that their son is dying (which the parents say is not a certainty) and that it was in Alfie’s “best interests” to have his life support disconnected.

Although an exact diagnosis still evades doctors, they say Alfie is suffering from “a neuro-degenerative disease.”

Last of the Pro-Life Democrats Under Fire

Last of the Pro-Life Democrats Under Fire
And then there were three. That is how many pro-life Democrats remain in the House of Representatives. And the abortion industry is looking to reduce that number by a third in March, by funding a primary challenge to Chicago Congressman Dan Lipinski. If successful, this campaign will likely push Democrats to fight harder for public funding and against any conscience protections. If it fails, it likely won’t signal a sea change in abortion politics—but it might loosen the pro-choice stranglehold on the Democratic National Committee just a bit, giving politicians like Lipinski a chance to speak out for the smallest among us, in what was once the party of the little guy.

Last year, the House voted to make the Hyde Amendment principles more permanent, by means of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act. Only three Democrats voted for the act: Lipinski; Collin Peterson, long representing a Republican-leaning rural district in Minnesota; and Henry Cuellar, who represents a mostly Hispanic district along the Rio Grande in Texas. More recently, when the question was whether abortions after twenty weeks of pregnancy should be banned, it was again only these three among the Democrats who stood for the unborn. Neither bill has been passed by the Senate.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure takes strong pro-life stand

Actress Candace Cameron Bure takes strong pro-life stand
Actress Candace Cameron Bure is probably best known for her role on “Full House” as oldest daughter DJ Tanner (now reprising that role in Netflix’s “Fuller House”), but she’s also been a conservative Christian co-host on “The View,” a daytime talk show largely known for its liberal, pro-abortion slant. Bure no longer serves in this role, but while she did, she took a pro-life stand for the preborn.

In early 2016, the pro-abortion ladies of “The View” rejoiced that the Center for Medical Progress (which exposed Planned Parenthood’s involvement with harvesting and trafficking aborted fetal body parts) was indicted by a Texas Grand Jury — charges which were later dropped. Bure responded, “My view is it seems completely backward. I think these were people that were exposing something horrific that goes on, and to see them indicted is horrifying to me. And I say … woe to them who call evil good and good evil.”  Bure added that while she knows women who have had abortions and that she feels compassion toward them, “I’m an advocate for the unheard voice. These are unborn voices. They cannot defend themselves, and I will always defend them.”

On Abortion Pill Reversal, It’s Time to Hear from the Women

On Abortion Pill Reversal, It’s Time to Hear from the Women
For all its fuss and bluster about the need to “Believe Women,” the Left—and in particular, its fervently pro-abortion core—sure is bad at believing women.

Case in point, over 400 women say they’ve rescued their children from abortion after having taken the first of two pills in a chemical abortion—euphemistically called “the abortion pill” or RU-486.

Each woman says she changed her mind after taking the first pill and rescued her baby through a life-saving treatment known as abortion pill reversal (APR).

Yet, despite the first-hand testimony of these women, abortion activists insist that APR is a scam, cut from whole cloth to advance a pro-life political or religious agenda.

VIDEO: Christian Illinois governor candidate takes heat for ad highlighting GOP governor’s pro-abortion record

Jeanne Ives
Illinois legislator Jeanne Ives, who currently represents the state’s 42nd district is seeking to beat the pro-abortion Republican governor in his party’s primary released an ad highlighting his radical pro-abortion and pro-transgender beliefs, igniting fury from national media, leftists, and establishment Republicans.

Gov. Bruce Rauner, a liberal Republican, signed a law in 2017 expanding forced taxpayer funding of abortion. “Rauner chose Planned Parenthood and Personal PAC over pro-lifers or even simply over abiding the sprit of the Hyde Amendment, which remains in force at the federal level,” she explained.

Actor Stephen Baldwin: You can’t be Christian and support abortion

Donald Trump with Stephen Baldwin
In an interview with Faithwire on Facebook Live, actor Stephen Baldwin shared his pro-life beliefs and how he thinks supporting abortion or considering yourself pro-choice goes against the teachings of the Bible and of Jesus. “The Bible’s very clear,” said Baldwin. “The Word never changes. […] You can’t be pro-choice and call yourself a follower of Jesus Christ. Doesn’t go together. Just doesn’t go together. It’s a fact. It’s a simple common sense fact. So, anybody who hears me say that and goes, ‘Well, hey, I’m a this type of Christian or this denomination and in our church it’s acceptable,’ I’m just going to say, ‘Well, whatever they’re teaching you according to God’s Word that has allowed you to believe that, is incorrect.’ It’s very simple.”

Baldwin, who is set to star in the new Roe v. Wade movie, firmly believes that supporting abortion goes against the principles of Christianity and the teachings of Jesus Christ, including God’s specific command to not kill. He believes that science backs up his pro-life stance as well.

Will film exposing the abortion industry hit the big screen?

Will film exposing the abortion industry hit the big screen?
A movie examining the legalization of abortion in the United States will hit the big screen across America soon, but its success depends on one factor that is yet to be accomplished.

Hollywood producers are working with Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., to focus the film on Roe v. Wade – the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion 45 years ago. It will take a close look at its ramifications on America over decades past.

King’s interpretation of the deception by the abortion industry will be the substance of the movie, but the film will only hit theaters if over $2 million in donations can be raised over the next few months to make the film a reality.

Over a thousand big screens have already committed to show the movie.

Abortion numbers are rising for women using IUDs

A baby holds his mother's IUD. Abortion is on the rise for women using LARCs.
Who could forget the viral photo of a newborn baby boy holding his mother’s IUD device? While the baby wasn’t actually born holding the device, his mother told First Coast ABC News that the doctor found it behind the placenta and a nurse placed it in the baby’s hand. The mother had received the implanted birth control device just three weeks prior to becoming pregnant. As it turns out, while implanted birth control has a reputation for being much more effective than other types of birth control, including the pill, it does carry the risk of failure. Abortion numbers for women using IUDs are on the rise.

Women are becoming pregnant despite the use of IUDs and therefore abortion for this group is on the rise.

Implanted birth control has a bad habit of moving from the position in which it was placed. The implanted contraceptive which is placed in the arm has migrated to the lung and has even had a tendency to go missing. When an IUD moves it can actually end up moving freely through a woman’s body and has been found in the bladder. This obviously can cause health risks and require surgery to remove, and there are numerous lawsuits filed, but it can also mean that a woman can become pregnant despite her use of what is considered to be highly effective birth control. Becoming pregnant with an IUD carries high risks including miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies, vaginal bleeding, placental abruption, and premature delivery.

Preborn babies sense not just pain, but light and temperature

A baby in her first trimester - Preborn babies sense not just pain, but light and temperature
This past week, Students for Life of America’s Western Regional Director Reagan Barklage shared a post on the SFLA Facebook page, discussing her recent trip to see a massage therapist about some sciatica pain due to her pregnancy. She describes how her preborn baby boy did not like being moved out of his position, which was causing his mother pain. She then tells how her massage therapist calmed her baby for the rest of the session — and it’s amazing:

Barklage writes, “Before I left for DC a few weeks ago, I got a massage as Baby Barklage was sitting on my sciatic nerve and causing a lot of pain…. While getting the massage, he started freaking out and kicking really hard, because the therapist was kindly evicting him from his current living situation. The therapist stopped and said, “Hang on! We gotta calm baby down first.” The therapist then put some warm towels on me to get Baby B to calm down, and within seconds, he could feel the warmth and instantly settled down. The therapist was then able to gently move him without any stress from the baby. Here is why that situation blew my mind. 1) My therapist put my baby first, making sure he was calm and relaxed before working on me. 2) My baby could feel the warmth of a towel! WHAT?!”

It really is mind-blowing to learn about the development of preborn children. According to the Endowment for Human Development, which released a prenatal video series in partnership with National Geographic, by nine weeks after fertilization (according to six different studies), “the nerve receptors in the face, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet can sense and respond to light touch. Following a light touch on the sole of the foot, the fetus will bend the hip and knee and may curl the toes.” Between 12 and 13 weeks after fertilization (according to three different studies), the preborn child’s “whole body surface, except the top of the head and the back, responds to light touch.” By 24 weeks in the second trimester, the preborn baby “responds to pressure, movement, pain, hot and cold, taste, and light.”

Yes, even while still in the womb, babies can feel temperature changes.

The War on the Hippocratic Oath

The War on the Hippocratic Oath

The screaming was so loud, you would have thought that the Trump administration had overturned Roe v. Wade. It hadn’t, of course. But it had directed needed attention at the existing legal protection that allows doctors and nurses to refuse to participate in abortions without fear of firing or other job sanctions. This protection is sometimes called “medical conscience rights.”

The occasion for the uproar? The Department of Health and Human Services announced its intention to create a new office of Conscience and Religious Freedom Division in the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to enforce medical conscience. It is worth noting that this proposed action will not change the law. But it will revitalize enforcement efforts after years of the Obama administration’s hostility toward religious liberty generally and medical conscience rights specifically. Indeed, the newly created enforcement office will put medical employers on notice that the current administration considers medical conscience rights to be fundamental. As the HHS press release put it:

The creation of the new division will provide HHS with the focus it needs to more vigorously and effectively enforce existing laws protecting the rights of conscience and religious freedom, the first freedom protected in the Bill of Rights.

NARAL's "Outrage" Clothing Line Makes it Official: Big Abortion is Out of Ideas

NARAL's "Outrage" Clothing Line Makes it Official: Big Abortion is Out of Ideas
Out of gift ideas for that special someone this Valentine’s Day? The abortion-promoting ghouls at NARAL have you covered.

Introducing a real-life product line called—no kidding—“Outrage,” the largest group of abortion supremacists now offer their dwindling minions a wearable way to express support for their favorite topic.

“Outrage,” which was rolled out in January to commemorate 45 years of legalized abortion on demand in the U.S., includes t-shirts, buttons, postcards and more.

Naturally, all proceeds go to increasing American abortions through Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

The sloganeering featured on all Outrage products range from vacuous—“Believe Women”—to tasteless—the word “Abortion” framed in a heart.

Most notably, the line includes a t-shirt with "We Won't Go Back" and a coat hanger, drawing upon the myth of thousands of women dying annually from so-called "back-alley abortions" made up by founders of NARAL, including the late Bernard Nathanson, who later admitted to spreading the misinformation. In reality, 90 percent of illegal abortions carried out prior to Roe were done so by doctors, according to Planned Parenthood in 1960.

Even Trump’s critics have to admit the Mexico City Policy is making an impact

Even Trump’s critics have to admit the Mexico City Policy is making an impact
Some of President Donald J. Trump’s harshest critics admit that his reinstatement and expansion of the pro-life Mexico City Policy has been implemented by Republican presidents since Ronald Reagan, blocking U.S. funding for foreign organizations that provide or advocate for abortions has been highly effective in advancing the United States’ moral influence to curb the international abortion lobby. Direct U.S. funding for overseas abortions is already prohibited in law by the Helms Amendment in 1973.

Despite the deeply entrenched political divide around abortion, the policy’s critics hope to sway pro-life stakeholders by arguing that the policy causes harm through its unintended consequences. They claim that it results in the denial of basic health services to women whose providers choose not to comply with the policy, lose U.S. funding, and therefore reduce their offerings or close their doors altogether.

Former abortion worker reveals the horror of D&E abortions

The Pain Capable Child Protection Act would have banned abortion after 20 weeks, but on January 29, 2018, the Senate voted not to proceed with the bill. The act would have saved the lives of between 12,000 and 18,000 preborn babies a year from abortion.

In response, former abortion worker Catherine Adair posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook. Adair has assisted in late-term abortions and is familiar with the most common late-term abortion method – the D&E.

Below, former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino describes the way a D&E abortion is committed:

Ex-Planned Parenthood VP Launches New Effort to Slam Pro-Life Centers

The abortion lobby's latest wild goose chase to smear pregnancy centers is underway. Here's what you need to know.

Led by Mary Alice Carter, a former interim VP for communications at Planned Parenthood, Equity Forward was approvingly profiled by TheHill.com Friday. The group has already kicked off its initial investigation meant to smear the nation’s 2,700 locally funded pregnancy centers that offer peer counseling, ultrasounds, material aid and post-abortive help offered at no cost.

"Rather than going on a wild goose chase against pro-life pregnancy help, abortion activists would do far better to investigate their own industry,” Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International—which serves over 2,400 pregnancy help organizations around the world—said. “Pregnancy centers are good for women and their children. It is abortion businesses—not pregnancy centers—that routinely physically harm their patients, profit off a woman’s desperation and break the law to maximize their bottom line.

“No woman has ever died or been harmed in a pregnancy center, and sadly, we can’t say the same about abortion businesses.”

VIDEO: A ‘male feminist called me a piece of s***’: pro-life youth share horror stories from Women’s March

ro-abortion feminists attempt to block images of aborted babies at the 2018 'Women's March.'
The second Annual Women’s March, organized to protest the democratic election of President Donald Trump in 2016, flooded the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on January 20 with a torrent of pink hats and feminist anger.

One hundred members of the college pro-life group Created Equal served as a counter-protest, standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to witness to the carnage visited upon unborn children, over half of them baby girls. Created Equal’s representatives showed the marchers actual images of the aftermath of abortion: a dismembered dead baby.  The young pro-lifers withstood a barrage of verbal abuse and sexual harassment as furious abortion supporters vented their rage at this challenge.

Pro-abortion myths, fables, and fairytales about fetal pain

Dr. Jean A. Wright Quote on unborn pain
We all know the French adage, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” Never, ever was that more true than in listening to the pro-abortion drivel on display Monday in the Senate as Democrats successfully prevented Republicans from cutting off a filibuster of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. (Sixty votes were needed to “invoke cloture” so there could have been an up or down vote.)

But I was wrong. There is a worse example of recycling myths, fables, and fairytales about fetal pain. I didn’t notice it at the time but evidently Maggie Fox of NBC News had read twitter posts from a “doctor” and decided to interview him after the Senate vote.

By way of preface, Fox can be very perceptive reporter, but less so when she wanders into politics. For example, “the doctor just explained late-term abortion—on Twitter” is Dr. Daniel Grossman.

Grossman is not some ordinary M.D. He is a nearly full-time abortion apologist who composes such convoluted half-truths it takes five times as much space to rebut them as for him to compose them.

For example, he tells Fox

“I really feel like it’s important for policymakers, legislators, to use the best available scientific evidence when they are making policy related to health. I also think it’s important for them to listen to the patients that are affected by this healthcare and neither of those things were done related to this recent bill.”

Small problem. Everything—everything—he told Fox is wrong. Demonstrably wrong. Wrong in the sense of being debunked years ago.

President Trump, Vice President Pence criticize Senate failure to pass Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

Pro-life President Donald Trump and Pro-life Vice President Mike Pence
Monday after Senate pro-lifers were unable to garner the 60 votes necessary to move to an actual vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (“invoke cloture”), both pro-life President Donald Trump and pro-life Vice President Mike Pence blasted the Senate’s 51-46 vote.

Here’s is what President Trump said:

Recently, when I addressed the 45th annual March for Life, I called on the Senate to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, important legislation that would protect our most vulnerable. It is disappointing that despite support from a bipartisan majority of U.S. Senators, this bill was blocked from further consideration.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that babies in the womb feel pain at twenty weeks. The vote by the Senate rejects scientific fact and puts the United States out of the mainstream in the family of nations, in which only 7 out of 198 nations, including China and North Korea, allow elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. We must defend those who cannot defend themselves. I urge the Senate to reconsider its decision and pass legislation that will celebrate, cherish, and protect life.

And here is what Vice President Pence said with regard to the “Senate’s Failure to Advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act”:

I am disappointed that tonight, 46 Senators voted against a motion that would have respected the majority of Americans’ convictions – including those of President Trump – by refusing to advance a bill that would restrict abortions on babies when they are capable of feeling pain. Just earlier this month I watched as our president, a true pro-life advocate, energized the growing movement at the March for Life. The pro-life message is winning and President Trump and I will never cease in our commitment to defending and protecting the most vulnerable among us. We will continue standing up for the sanctity of life.

U.S. Senate votes on nationwide protections for pain-capable unborn children, falling short of 60 votes

A majority of the U.S. Senate voted to advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S. 2311), but on a near party-line vote, a minority blocked consideration of the bill. Fifty-one senators (forty-eight Republicans and three Democrats) voted to take the bill up for debate, but 60 votes were required.

This bill is based on model legislation developed by National Right to Life in 2010, and is in effect in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

“Americans should be outraged that pro-abortion Senate Democrats refuse to protect unborn babies who can feel pain. An overwhelming majority of Americans support this bill, including 56% of Democrats and 56% of those who identify as ‘pro-choice’,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.

Tobias added, “We applaud Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and chief sponsor Sen. Lindsey Graham for their steadfast commitment to passing these protections for pain-capable unborn children. We will keep coming back to the Senate, again and again, until it passes this bill.”

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is sponsored by Senator Graham (R-S.C.), along with 46 cosponsors, and has been one of the right-to-life movement’s top legislative priorities. The operative language is identical to H.R. 36, approved by the House of Representatives on October 3, 2017. This legislation extends general protection to unborn children who are at least 20 weeks beyond fertilization (which is equivalent to 22 weeks of pregnancy—about the start of the sixth month).

The text of the bill is available here

Men have the right to say abortion is wrong

Ben Shapiro: Men have the right to say abortion is wrong
On January 25, 2018, conservative commentator and Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro posted a Facebook video of a Q&A session at the University of Connecticut, in which he answered a questions from a female audience member (who says she is going into the healthcare field). She asks how he, as a “white, well off, religious man” feels he has a right to tell a woman that abortion is wrong.

The unidentified woman says, “I personally don’t think that I could have an abortion… but how do you defend your opinion as a white, well off, religious man… telling a woman what she can do with her body and forcing her to –”

Before she can finish, Shapiro answers, “Because evil things are still evil, even if I’m a white, well off, religious man.”

Pregnancy centers free speech case set for oral arguments at Supreme Court

Pregnancy centers free speech case set for oral arguments at Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court announced March 20 as its date to hear oral arguments in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra. A case both sides of the abortion divide agree is the Court’s most significant of 2018, NIFLA v. Becerra challenges a 2015 state law in California forcing over 100 privately funded pro-life pregnancy help medical clinics that offer free ultrasounds to post signage directing their clients to a taxpayer-funded abortion program through Medi-Cal.

The clinics—which are state-licensed, but receive no taxpayer funding—argue that the state’s so-called “Reproductive FACT Act” co-opts and overrides their right to free speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment. With lead plaintiff NIFLA joined by co-counsel Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the pro-life organizations are now gearing up for their day at the nation’s High Court. Groups representing pro-life, Christian and free speech constituencies—plus 22 states and 144 members of the U.S. Congress—have filed amicus briefs in support of NIFLA.

“NIFLA looks forward to prosecuting our case against the state of California to enjoin its horrendous violation of the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers,” Thomas Glessner, J.D., NIFLA president and founder, said. “This law compels pro-life centers to violate their consciences and promote abortion. As such it cannot and will not stand.”

Almost 75% of American women who had abortions were pressured

Almost 75% of American women who had abortions were pressured
The study, published recently in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, found that nearly three-quarters (73.8%) of women with a history of abortion surveyed admitted that they experienced at least subtle forms of pressure to terminate their pregnancies.

More than half of the women reported that the perceived pressure was great enough to significantly influence their decision to abort. Of the 987 women surveyed, more than half (58.3%) indicated that they decided to abort in order to make others happy. Nearly 30% of survey respondents admitted that they were afraid that they would lose their partner if they failed to terminate their pregnancy.

Lindsey Graham. The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nationwide federation of state right-to-life organizations, urges you to vote “aye” with Leader McConnell on this motion. We intend to include the roll call in our scorecard of key right-to-life roll calls of the 115th Congress.

S. 2311 currently has 46 cosponsors. The operative language is identical to H.R. 36, approved by the House of Representatives on October 3, 2017. This legislation extends general protection to unborn children who are at least 20 weeks beyond fertilization (which is equivalent to 22 weeks of pregnancy—about the start of the sixth month).

There is abundant evidence—summarized in the findings of the bill—that by this point in development (and probably earlier), the unborn child has the capacity to experience excruciating pain during typical abortion procedures. On this basis, the bill prohibits abortion after that point, except when an acute physical condition endangers the life of the mother, or in cases of rape, or cases of incest against a minor. The bill spells out the procedural requirements that abortionists must follow when performing an abortion under these exceptions, including seeking to preserve the life of the child whenever this is feasible. The bill also creates specific requirements for the protection of infants who are born alive during these late abortions.

Cecile Richards reportedly stepping down from Planned Parenthood

Cecile Richards reportedly stepping down from Planned Parenthood
Cecile Richards, who has served as president of Planned Parenthood since 2006, will soon step down from her position, two sources told BuzzFeed News on Wednesday.

No official timetable has been reported, but a statement provided to BuzzFeed said that Richards “plans to discuss 2018 and the next steps for Planned Parenthood’s future” at next week’s board meeting.

During Richards’ tenure as president, Planned Parenthood increased the number of abortions performed each year by more than 10 percent. In 2006, Planned Parenthood performed 289,750 abortions. In the 2016-2017 report, that number had grown to 321,384.  On average, Planned Parenthood carried out 320,000 abortions each year during Richards’ tenure.

Senate to debate Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act next week

Senate to debate Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act next week
The bill is based on model legislation developed by National Right to Life in 2010, and enacted thus far in 16 states.

“This bill would save thousands of unborn babies annually from terribly painful deaths,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life, when it passed the House, 237-189 . “It is now clear that the overwhelming majority of House Democrats believe that painfully dismembering babies, in the sixth month and later, is just fine – now let them try to explain that to their constituents.”

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has been among the right-to-life movement’s top congressional priorities for the 115th Congress. Like the state bills, the proposed federal law would generally extend legal protection to unborn humans beginning at 20 weeks fetal age, based on congressional findings that by that point (and even earlier) the unborn child has the capacity to experience great pain during an abortion.

Illinois Planned Parenthood 'cashing in' on taxpayer-funded abortion law

Illinois Planned Parenthood 'cashing in' on taxpayer-funded abortion law
On January 16, Planned Parenthood opened a “women’s health center” in Flossmoor to add to its 16 clinics already operating in Illinois. Four additional Planned Parenthood centers are scheduled to open in the state over the next five years.

Pro-Life and Pro-Family groups told Prairie State Wire that Planned Parenthood is gearing up for the growing market for abortions following Gov. Bruce Rauner’s signing of HB 40 in September, which expanded taxpayer-funded abortions through Medicaid and state employee insurance.

In other states, they are closing abortion mills down, in Illinois, they are expanding their business.

Pro-abortion report finds pro-lifers are winning, ‘slowly chipping away at abortion access’

Students for Life of America
One of the largest American abortion lobby groups, NARAL Pro-Choice America, released a report on the “insidious power” of the pro-life movement, detailing the influence and effectiveness of various efforts to stop abortion on demand.

The pro-life movement is succeeding in that it “is slowly chipping away at abortion access across the country,” NARAL President Ilyse Hogue wrote in the report. “2018 is a year in which anti-choice activists sit in influential roles across the Trump administration, have unprecedented influence over judicial nominations and are introducing the most extreme anti-choice [pro-life] legislation ever seen in Congress.”

2018 Election: What if pro-abortion Democrats took back the U.S. House?

We Vote Pro-Life
Democrats would need a net gain of 24 seats in order to take control of the House of Representatives, and in the process take the gavel out of the hands of pro-life Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wi.) and return it to pro-abortion Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.).

What would that mean for unborn children? It would be difficult to exaggerate the fall-out. If Nancy Pelosi has control of the agenda, there would no chance that protective pro-life legislation would ever be voted on, let alone passed.

Instead, we’ll be faced with a push for pro-abortion legislation like the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” (S.510, HR 1322), also known as the “Abortion Without Limits Until Birth Act.” This is a bill radical even by pro-abortion standards that would invalidate nearly all state and federal limitations on abortion, including women’s right-to-know laws and waiting periods. It would also invalidate Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection laws that protect babies 20 weeks and older who can feel excruciating pain during abortion.

Their appetite whetted, pro-abortion Democratic leadership would then begin to attempt to dismantle many other pro-life laws.

And the biased pro-abortion media will celebrate the initiatives, claiming a “mandate” for abortion on demand.

We cannot allow that to happen. We know that every time we pass pro-life legislation lives are saved. In fact, one piece of pro-life policy alone – the Hyde Amendment, which restricts taxpayer funding of abortions except in rare cases – has saved two million babies. Even the process of passing pro-life legislation (i.e., the discussion surrounding passing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act) saves lives by educating the public about the unborn child’s capacity to experience horrific pain while she is killed.

Due to retirements, resignations or candidates running for other offices, in 2018, there are more than 30 pro-life Republicans seats to defend – twice as many seats as pro-abortion Democrats in.

Overall, there are 23 vulnerable pro-abortion Democrat seats compared to 61 vulnerable pro-life Republican seats so far this year...

Dept. of Justice, 144 members of Congress weigh in on behalf of pregnancy help centers

Dept. of Justice, 144 members of Congress weigh in on behalf of pregnancy help centers
The mounting list of amicus (“friend of the court”) briefs filed with the United Stated Supreme Court on behalf of pro-life pregnancy centers has grown to include amici from the Trump administration’s Department of Justice and from 144 members of the House of Representatives.

The High Court is set to hold oral arguments in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra later this spring.

At issue is the so-called “Reproductive FACT Act,” passed on a strict party line vote in California in 2015. The law forces “privately funded pro-life pregnancy centers to promote taxpayer-funded abortions, threatening crippling fines for noncompliance,” according to Pregnancy Help News. The law is a blatant infringement of First Amendment freedoms of speech and free exercise of religion.

President Donald J. Trump Proclaims January 22, 2018, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day

President Donald J. Trump Proclaims January 22, 2018, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day
We focus our attention on the love and protection each person, born and unborn, deserves regardless of disability, gender, appearance, or ethnicity. Much of the greatest suffering in our Nation’s history — and, indeed, our planet’s history — has been the result of disgracefully misguided attempts to dehumanize whole classes of people based on these immutable characteristics. We cannot let this shameful history repeat itself in new forms, and we must be particularly vigilant to safeguard the most vulnerable lives among us. This is why we observe National Sanctity of Human Life Day: to affirm the truth that all life is sacred, that every person has inherent dignity and worth, and that no class of people should ever be discarded as “non-human.”

Reverence for every human life, one of the values for which our Founding Fathers fought, defines the character of our Nation. Today, it moves us to promote the health of pregnant mothers and their unborn children. It animates our concern for single moms; the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled; and orphan and foster children. It compels us to address the opioid epidemic and to bring aid to those who struggle with mental illness. It gives us the courage to stand up for the weak and the powerless. And it dispels the notion that our worth depends on the extent to which we are planned for or wanted.

Citizens throughout our great country are working for the cause of life and fighting for the unborn, driven by love and supported by both science and philosophy. These compassionate Americans are volunteers who assist women through difficult pregnancies, facilitate adoptions, and offer hope to those considering or recovering from abortions. They are medical providers who, often at the risk of their livelihood, conscientiously refuse to participate in abortions. And they are legislators who support health and safety standards, informed consent, parental notification, and bans on late-term abortions, when babies can feel pain. These undeterred warriors, many of whom travel to Washington, D.C., every year for the March for Life, are changing hearts and saving lives through their passionate defense of and loving care for all human lives. Thankfully, the number of abortions, which has been in steady decline since 1980, is now at a historic low. Though the fight to protect life is not yet over, we commit to advocating each day for all who cannot speak for themselves.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 22, 2018, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. I call on all Americans to reflect on the value of our lives; to respond to others in keeping with their inherent dignity; to act compassionately to those with disabilities, infirmities, or frailties; to look beyond external factors that might separate us; and to embrace the common humanity that unites us.

Chicago law firm offers pro-bono legal aid for pro-life health workers

The United States Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that its Office for Civil Rights will open a division devoted to protecting rights of conscience and religious freedom.

Chicago's Thomas More Society attorneys are now assisting pro-life health workers and pregnancy help centers to take advantage of this new opportunity. This process of filing rights of conscience and religious freedom complaints will safeguard federal protections on behalf of those who believe they have been discriminated against. The national public interest law firm is offering this service pro-bono.

As attorneys with the Thomas More Society defend pro-life doctors, nurses and pregnancy centers from a wave of state laws aimed at forcing them to make abortion referrals, the Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights’ new dedicated division will aid the process of filing right of conscience and religious liberty discrimination complaints.

How will pro-abortion Democrats explain voting against The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act?

born alive
With all Republicans supporting and all but six Democrats opposing, the House of Representatives today passed The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 4712) by a vote of 241-183.

Looking ahead, NRLC President Carol Tobias cut to the chase when she commented, “The 183 House Democrats who voted against the bill will need to try to explain why they voted against making it a crime to treat a born-alive human person as medical waste, as a source for organ harvesting, or as a creature who may be subjected to lethal violence with impunity.”

As is always the case, Democrats insisted all is well and that there is no reason to pass a law that simply says if a baby survives an abortion attempt, he or she will receive “the same degree of care as reasonably provided to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.” Not more but not less medical care.

HHS’s new protections for medical personnel who oppose abortion

conscience rights meme NRLC
The latest pro-life initiative from the Trump administration: the announcement from the Department of Health and Human Services of the formation of a new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division in the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

This is a very, very important move. As NRLC president Carol Tobias explained

“We commend the Trump Administration for creating a new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division within its Office for Civil Rights that will focus on enforcement of and compliance with existing laws that protect conscience.

“We are pleased to see this new division in the face of a growing number of actions by some state governments to compel participation in abortions by health care providers and others, and because the Obama Administration had effectively adopted a non-enforcement policy with respect to existing federal conscience-protection laws.

“Rights of conscience are extremely important to the right-to-life movement to protect medical professionals, religious institutions, and employers from being forced to participate in abortion.”

NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE DOES NOT OPPOSE THE HEARTBEAT BILL

The following statement may be attributed to Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life:

It is not true that National Right to Life has blocked congressional consideration of the heartbeat bill. Nor is it true to say that National Right to Life lobbied congressional leadership against the heartbeat bill. National Right to Life does not oppose the heartbeat bill. Divisiveness and attacks on fellow pro-lifers does not save babies.

7 members of Illinois Congressional delegation co-sponsor Born Alive measure

Trump on video at March for Life 2018
After the Democrat-controlled Illinois House and Senate refused to pass any measures banning the practice, it took President George W. Bush and a pro-life Congress to move at the federal level. The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 ("BAIPA" Pub.L. 107–207, 116 Stat. 926, enacted August 5, 2002, 1 U.S.C. § 8) extended legal protection to an infant born alive after a failed attempt at induced abortion, but had no legal teeth to enforce the law or protect the innocent victims.

The U.S. House voted Friday to pass a measure protecting babies born alive in a botched abortion, and punishing those performing the abortions. It next faces the U.S. Senate. The prolife movement was assured Friday during their annual March for Life that President Trump would sign the measure into law. He addressed the crowd via live video.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) voted with a majority of his colleagues in favor of the Born Alive Abortion Survivor’s Protection Act (H.R. 4712). The bill, which Rep. Bost and six other Illinois congressional delegates cosponsored, ensures medical care and legal protection for babies who survive an abortion, while protecting their mothers from prosecution.

National Right to Life applauds House passage of Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

preemie and nurse
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) today applauded a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to extend federal legal protection to babies who are born alive during abortion. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 4712) passed 241-183. All Republicans voted for final passage, but only six Democrats voted in favor of it.

National Right to Life President Carol Tobias commented, “The 183 House Democrats who voted against the bill will need to try to explain why they voted against making it a crime to treat a born-alive human person as medical waste, as a source for organ harvesting, or as a creature who may be subjected to lethal violence with impunity.”

H.R. 4712 contains an explicit requirement that a baby born alive during an abortion must be afforded “the same degree” of care that would apply “to any other child born alive at the same gestational age,” including transportation to a hospital. This language does not dictate bona fide medical judgments nor require futile measures, but rather, requires that babies born alive during abortions are treated in the same manner as those who are spontaneously born prematurely.
