This week, Representative Mark Meadows (R-NC) joined Senator Steve Daines (R-MT),
(R-IN), Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Senator James Lankford (R-OK) in introducing the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act.
The Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act would extend the existing child tax credit to apply to the unborn child prior to birth and permit the credit to be claimed in the child’s first year of life. The credit could only be claimed once the child is born and receives a Social Security Number or other tax identification number.
House sponsor Rep. Meadows stated, “It’s simple: expectant mothers and fathers deserve the same financial assistance and tax credit benefits to begin planning for a new child as parents blessed with children already born. The work, care, and costs associated with motherhood begin long before a child is born, and this legislation gives moms and their families an opportunity for a better start.”
A provision related to the unborn and college savings in the recent tax bill (ultimately struck from the final version due to Senate rules) drew the ire of the extreme pro-abortion lobby, including NARAL and Planned Parenthood. Even though that provision, like the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act, in no ways deals with abortion, the pro-abortion lobby’s ideology compels it to deny the very existence of unborn human beings in any area of the law.
NARAL tweeted at the time, “The GOP’s relentless obsession with advancing its dangerous anti-choice ideology knows no boundaries and no common sense.”
Recognizing an unborn baby so the parents can receive a tax benefit is “dangerous”? Hardly.
National Right to Life has previously supported other legislative efforts that are now law that follow the same principle of recognizing the unborn child. For example, there is the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (also known as “Laci and Conner’s Law”), enacted in 2004 after a five-year effort led by the NRLC. The law recognizes that when a criminal attacks a pregnant woman, and injures or kills both her and her unborn child, he has claimed two victims.
This is good public policy. National Right to Life supports this effort and looks forward to working with Congress to pass this legislation and getting it onto the desk of President Trump.

President Trump proposes budget with numerous pro-life provisions
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump proposed a budget request for fiscal year 2019 containing multiple pro-life provisions. Several key elements include defunding certain abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, as well as prohibiting funding to groups that support overseas programs that engage in coercive abortion.
While the President’s budget request is merely the first step in a lengthy process that will seldom contain all of a President’s targets, the pro-life nature of this budget request should hearten pro-lifers.
Defunding Certain Abortion Providers, Including Planned Parenthood
According to the recently released budget proposal, “The Budget includes provisions prohibiting certain abortion providers from receiving Federal funds from HHS, including those that receive funding under the Title X Family Planning program and Medicaid, among other HHS programs.”
President Trump proposes budget with numerous pro-life provisions
The proposed budget would close the largest pipeline for federal funding of Planned Parenthood, Medicaid, and apply as well to the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the Title V and Title XX block grant programs.
These sources account for roughly 89% of all federal funds that currently flow to Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of abortions – at least one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at Planned Parenthood-affiliated facilities. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood received at least $528 million annually from the federal government or state and local governments.
Based on data from their own annual report from 2013-2014, nearly one in eight women walking through the door of a Planned Parenthood clinic has an abortion. A background memo from National Right to Life is available here.
Continuation of Prohibiting Funding to the UNFPA
After many long years under the Obama Administration’s funding of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Trump Administration ceased funding for the organization in April of 2017. The UNFPA does not currently receive funding from the U.S. government because of its extensive involvement in China’s population control program — which relies heavily upon coerced abortions. The budget proposal would continue to ensure that the UNFPA does not receive funding going forward.
Overturning DC’s discriminatory law against pro-life and other conservative groups that are based in the District
In 2014, the District Council enacted a local law, the so-called “Reproductive Health Nondiscrimination Act” (RHNDA). The RHNDA prohibits employers within the District from engaging in “discrimination” on the basis of “decisions” reached by employees, or potential employees, regarding “reproductive health” matters. It is not disputed that abortion is among the matters encompassed by the term “reproductive health” as used in the new law. The scope of the RHNDA is very broad, covering any “decisions” that are “related to the use . . . of a particular . . . medical service . . .”
The National Right to Life Committee advocates for recognition that each unborn child is a member of the human family, and that each abortion stops a beating heart and ends the life of a developing human being. That viewpoint is shared by many women who once believed otherwise and submitted to abortions, and by many men who once believed otherwise and were complicit in abortion; such persons number among the most committed activists within our organization and other pro-life organizations.
Yet it would be intolerable for an advocacy organization such as ours to be required to hire, or prohibited from firing, a person who makes a “decision” to engage in advocacy or any other activity that is directly antithetical to our core mission to lawfully advocate for the civil rights of the unborn.
The President’s budget proposal overturns RHNDA.
In addition to those detailed above, there are numerous other prolife protections interwoven throughout the President’s budget request. With coming midterm elections, it remains critical that Congress can retain prolife majorities, and grow those majorities in the Senate in order that prolife advances can continue under this President.

Over 25,000 doctors fight proposed global policy forcing them promote abortion
Conscience rights protections for health care providers in the U.S. and abroad are once again under attack. The World Medical Association (WMA) representing 10 million physicians worldwide is poised to approve a policy that would demand doctors refer for abortion, even against their conscience.
Although current federal statutes in the U.S. protect health care provider’s conscience rights and prohibit recipients of certain federal funds from discriminating against health care providers, WMA ethics policies greatly impact future regulations of the medical profession globally.

President Trump defunds Planned Parenthood with release of his new Budget
President Donald Trump released a presidential budget request for FY 2019. According to a 2017 article from ThoughtCo, every February, the annual federal budget process begins with the release of a presidential budget request to Congress:
The president’s budget proposal serves as a “starting point” for the Congress to consider. Congress is under no obligation to adopt all or any of the President’s budget and often makes significant changes. However, since the President must ultimately approve all future bills they might pass, Congress is often reluctant to completely ignore the spending priorities of the President’s budget.
Included in the president’s budget request on page 56 is the following section regarding the Title X Family Planning program and Medicaid, in which President Trump requests prohibiting federal funds from going to “certain abortion providers”:
Prohibits Certain Abortion Providers from Receiving Federal Funds. The Budget includes provisions prohibiting certain abortion providers from receiving Federal funds from HHS, including those that receive funding under the Title X Family Planning program and Medicaid, among other HHS programs.”

Court Ruling a Hopeful Sign for Pro-Life Nurses, Docs in Illinois
An Illinois nurse who was muscled out of her job because she wouldn’t participate in abortions is now one step closer to fighting her case before a jury of her peers.
Sandra (Mendoza) Rojas had worked as a Winnebago County public health nurse for 18 years before a new supervisor forced her to choose between her livelihood and her conscience in 2015.
Rojas, who lodged a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Health last month, had filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Winnebago County in 2016, but the County slowed down her suit by claiming it had a near-universal right to force Rojas into compliance with its new policy.
On Monday, Chief Judge Eugene Doherty tossed out Winnebago County’s claim to government immunity, clearing the way for Rojas' lawsuit to move forward. In a related case last summer, Judge Doherty granted a preliminary injunction to protect Rojas and other medical professionals from the state's attempt to force them into making direct abortion referrals.

Federal judge: pro-life witness at abortion centers is protected speech
On January 29, 2018, a federal judge told the New York Attorney General that leafleting is a “form of really protected speech,” and that sidewalks are recognized as the “quintessential public forum.” The words from the bench underscored the arguments of Thomas More Society Special Counsel Martin Cannon. Cannon is defending a group of pro-life advocates who have been sued by Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman in a federal lawsuit that accuses them of threats and violence against abortion clinic patients.
A group of pro-life advocates with Church @ the Rock in Brooklyn has been targeted for ongoing sidewalk counseling, prayer, and protest activities outside of a Jamaica, New York, abortion clinic. The recent hearing was a request by the Thomas More Society for the court to dismiss the lawsuit against the church members involved.

Congress Continues to Fund Planned Parenthood's Criminal Enterprise
Congress passed a massive pork barrel budget that includes over half a billion dollars directed to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider.
Planned Parenthood is a criminal enterprise that is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for trafficking in fetal body parts. Countless Planned Parenthood abortion facilities have injured women so badly that they required emergency hospitalization. They have also been involved in bungled abortions that have led to numerous maternal deaths. Planned Parenthood has been involved in lawsuits alleging fraud, malpractice and wrongful death - many of which led to large monetary judgments or settlements.
Planned Parenthood owns half of the nation's abortion clinics and does one-third of all the abortions. Furthermore, public funds that flow to Planned Parenthood end up in the campaign coffers of far-left Democrat politicians to help defeat pro-life Republicans. Those Democrats are then beholden to support Planned Parenthood's radical abortion agenda.

‘I truly hate these people’: Disgraced FBI agents trashed pro-lifers, wanted to stop March for Life
Text messages recently released between FBI agent Peter Strzok and his mistress FBI attorney Lisa Page — both of whom are anti-Trump — reveal them saying that they "hate" pro-lifers and wanted to find an excuse to cancel the 2016 March for Life in Washington, D.C.
In what was intended to be a private message, Page told Strzok that "I truly hate these people," referring to pro-lifers attending the January 22, 2016, March for Life in the nation's Capitol. Strzok then replied that that the authorities should lie about a “snow emergency” to "cancel the permit" and stop the march.

VIDEO: Brother of woman who died from abortion at Planned Parenthood: Abortion is not a safe procedure
“As long as they’re gonna be open, there’s gonna be more deaths…. They’re killing people. Not just babies; they’re killing women as well.” Those are the words of Tyler Sheppard, the brother of a woman who died from a botched Planned Parenthood abortion. Sheppard is speaking out about the horrific treatment his sister, Cree Erwin-Sheppard, received at the hands of a Michigan Planned Parenthood. Sheppard also alleges that Bronson Battle Creek Hospital may have helped to cover up Planned Parenthood’s negligence in his sister’s case.
“We approached Planned Parenthood to try to get Cree’s medical documents from them, but they weren’t willing to give them to us,” Sheppard said in a new video interview by Live Action. “Justice has not been given to my sister. I lost two people that day — not just a sister, but a niece or a nephew, as well.”

Pain-Capable Senate Vote: The One Percenters' Club
How often does Congress have the chance to directly prevent, with a single legislative act, the certain infliction of extreme physical pain on thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of helpless and innocent victims?
Last week, the U.S. Senate missed an opportunity to do just that when 44 Democrats and two Republicans closed down debate on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The Act would have prohibited abortion after 20 weeks (five months) gestation, a stage at which unborn children can experience excruciating physical pain.
The science is so clear on this point that hospitals now give anesthesia to children at this age when they undergo surgery in utero. But not when they are aborted by dismemberment or by piercing their bodies with a large needle to inject poison that causes heart failure.
What would possess an individual, much less 46 members of Congress, to oppose legislation prohibiting this cruelty?

Planned Parenthood refused to stop committing abortions to get U.S. aid money: gov’t report
The U.S. State Department issued a new report today revealing that 729 out of 733 organizations accepted the Trump administration’s requirement they not commit or perform abortion as a condition of receiving aid money.
Two of the organizations who wouldn’t cease committing and promoting abortions were International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International. The names of the other two are not yet public. Government grants to the 733 organizations were up for renewal, and they had to demonstrate compliance with the Mexico City Policy in order to obtain funding.

“Loose Women” star reveals trauma of miscarriage after abortion
Nadia Sawalha has spoken out powerfully about her experiences with miscarriage and abortion.
English actress and television presenter Nadia Sawalha has revealed how she felt that her multiple miscarriages were a “punishment” for an earlier abortion].
The “Loose Women” star mentioned the abortion during a moving podcast titled ‘Dealing With the Heartbreak of Miscarriage‘, produced with her husband, TV producer Mark Adderley.
“I felt it was a punishment”
While discussing the trauma of her first miscarriage, she said: “Of course, I had had a termination years before. And I think, you know, all that guilt came up. And I was thinking, ‘Is this a punishment?’ “And with each subsequent miscarriage, I felt like that. I felt it was a punishment.”

More gut-wrenching testimony in the case of grievously ill Alfie Evans
Reading the summary notes offered online by Liverpool Echo reporter Tom Berger is almost like being at the gut-wrenching hearing in which Mr. Justice Hayden will decide the fate of Alfie Evans, the grievously ill 20-month-old son of Tom Evans, 21, and Kate James, 20.
Each day’s hearing is more heartrending than the day before. The parents want Alfie to be flown to the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome for possible treatment. The staff at Alder Hey in Birmingham, England, argues that their son is dying (which the parents say is not a certainty) and that it was in Alfie’s “best interests” to have his life support disconnected.
Although an exact diagnosis still evades doctors, they say Alfie is suffering from “a neuro-degenerative disease.”

Last of the Pro-Life Democrats Under Fire
And then there were three. That is how many pro-life Democrats remain in the House of Representatives. And the abortion industry is looking to reduce that number by a third in March, by funding a primary challenge to Chicago Congressman Dan Lipinski. If successful, this campaign will likely push Democrats to fight harder for public funding and against any conscience protections. If it fails, it likely won’t signal a sea change in abortion politics—but it might loosen the pro-choice stranglehold on the Democratic National Committee just a bit, giving politicians like Lipinski a chance to speak out for the smallest among us, in what was once the party of the little guy.
Last year, the House voted to make the Hyde Amendment principles more permanent, by means of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act. Only three Democrats voted for the act: Lipinski; Collin Peterson, long representing a Republican-leaning rural district in Minnesota; and Henry Cuellar, who represents a mostly Hispanic district along the Rio Grande in Texas. More recently, when the question was whether abortions after twenty weeks of pregnancy should be banned, it was again only these three among the Democrats who stood for the unborn. Neither bill has been passed by the Senate.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure takes strong pro-life stand
Actress Candace Cameron Bure is probably best known for her role on “Full House” as oldest daughter DJ Tanner (now reprising that role in Netflix’s “Fuller House”), but she’s also been a conservative Christian co-host on “The View,” a daytime talk show largely known for its liberal, pro-abortion slant. Bure no longer serves in this role, but while she did, she took a pro-life stand for the preborn.
In early 2016, the pro-abortion ladies of “The View” rejoiced that the Center for Medical Progress (which exposed Planned Parenthood’s involvement with harvesting and trafficking aborted fetal body parts) was indicted by a Texas Grand Jury — charges which were later dropped. Bure responded, “My view is it seems completely backward. I think these were people that were exposing something horrific that goes on, and to see them indicted is horrifying to me. And I say … woe to them who call evil good and good evil.” Bure added that while she knows women who have had abortions and that she feels compassion toward them, “I’m an advocate for the unheard voice. These are unborn voices. They cannot defend themselves, and I will always defend them.”

On Abortion Pill Reversal, It’s Time to Hear from the Women
For all its fuss and bluster about the need to “Believe Women,” the Left—and in particular, its fervently pro-abortion core—sure is bad at believing women.
Case in point, over 400 women say they’ve rescued their children from abortion after having taken the first of two pills in a chemical abortion—euphemistically called “the abortion pill” or RU-486.
Each woman says she changed her mind after taking the first pill and rescued her baby through a life-saving treatment known as abortion pill reversal (APR).
Yet, despite the first-hand testimony of these women, abortion activists insist that APR is a scam, cut from whole cloth to advance a pro-life political or religious agenda.

VIDEO: Christian Illinois governor candidate takes heat for ad highlighting GOP governor’s pro-abortion record
Illinois legislator Jeanne Ives, who currently represents the state’s 42nd district is seeking to beat the pro-abortion Republican governor in his party’s primary released an ad highlighting his radical pro-abortion and pro-transgender beliefs, igniting fury from national media, leftists, and establishment Republicans.
Gov. Bruce Rauner, a liberal Republican, signed a law in 2017 expanding forced taxpayer funding of abortion. “Rauner chose Planned Parenthood and Personal PAC over pro-lifers or even simply over abiding the sprit of the Hyde Amendment, which remains in force at the federal level,” she explained.

Actor Stephen Baldwin: You can’t be Christian and support abortion
In an interview with Faithwire on Facebook Live, actor Stephen Baldwin shared his pro-life beliefs and how he thinks supporting abortion or considering yourself pro-choice goes against the teachings of the Bible and of Jesus. “The Bible’s very clear,” said Baldwin. “The Word never changes. […] You can’t be pro-choice and call yourself a follower of Jesus Christ. Doesn’t go together. Just doesn’t go together. It’s a fact. It’s a simple common sense fact. So, anybody who hears me say that and goes, ‘Well, hey, I’m a this type of Christian or this denomination and in our church it’s acceptable,’ I’m just going to say, ‘Well, whatever they’re teaching you according to God’s Word that has allowed you to believe that, is incorrect.’ It’s very simple.”
