Can states defund Planned Parenthood?

Can states defund Planned Parenthood?

The U.S. Supreme Court could get involved if states continue to spark the wrath of Planned Parenthood by deciding to take away Medicaid funds from abortion facilities.

Planned Parenthood has filed suit against states that want to redistribute the money to local clinics that offer far more services and are not associated with terminating the lives of preborn babies. Attorney Rachel Busick of Americans United for Life tells OneNewsNow the abortion conglomerate files suit when states decide to no longer finance them.

"Planned Parenthood's suing because they think that they should have a constitutional right to receive government funds because they provide abortion," Busick comments. But she asserts that "they clearly do not" have that right.

Steve Jobs: Adoption was the first of many ‘connected dots’ in my life

Steve Jobs: Adoption was the first of many ‘connected dots’ in my life

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, though he passed away at the young age of in 2011, is still making headlines. A controversial new book written by his daughter, Lisa, with whom he had a strained relationship, reportedly paints him in an unfavorable light. But the relationships in Jobs’ life — like in many of our lives –were complicated. And yet, when Jobs made remarks reflecting on his own life, it is clear that he was grateful for the opportunities life had afforded him.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards.” These were Jobs’ words in a speech at Stanford University’s graduation in 2005. Jobs described having been born to an unwed graduate student who chose to place him with a family for adoption. The prospective adoptive couple were college graduates. But when they found out he was a boy, they had wanted a girl so they refused to go through with the adoption. Another couple then received a sudden call about “an unexpected baby boy.” They wanted him. But when Steve’s biological mother found out this couple were not college-educated, she refused to sign the adoption papers until they promised her they would send him to college. Steve eventually did go to college, but dropped out after a year. And that, of course, was another “dot” in his life, connecting him to his future with Apple, and later with Pixar.

Roe v. Wade legalized abortion on demand… and Americans don’t support that

Numerous polls on the public’s opinion of Roe v. Wade — the decision which legalized abortion in the United States in 1973, overriding all state laws at the time — have been taken in recent weeks, with President Trump’s nomination of a new Supreme Court justice causing abortion supporters to fear that Roe may be overturned soon. These polls all seem to show that the public is heavily in favor of Roe and of legal abortion. But cheering from the pro-abortion camp aside, the truth is that when Americans are asked more in-depth questions about when abortion should be restricted, it is revealed that Americans do not actually support abortion on demand — even though groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL claim the opposite. This was noted by Michael J. New in a recent article at National Review, in which he pointed out that these Roe v. Wade polls are “misleading” for several reasons:

… [A] significant number of Americans are unfamiliar with the Roe v. Wade decision. A Pew Research Center poll taken in 2013 found that only 62 percent of respondents were aware that Roe v. Wade dealt with abortion…. Many wrongly think that overturning Roe v. Wade would result in national ban on abortion, instead a reversal of Roe would return the issue to the states.

Additionally, many polling questions… fail to inform respondents that Roe v. Wade effectively legalized abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy and makes it difficult to place limits on late-term abortions.

Abortion culture: Pregnant employees are still punished for choosing life

Abortion culture: Pregnant employees are still punished for choosing life

The pressure to abort is often hard enough in a society dominated by selfish ambition and “choice.” Threatening women with their livelihoods for a natural life occurrence is a morally reprehensible act — as well as an illegal one. A recent article in the New York Times further exposed the problem of workplace pregnancy discrimination, so much so that it prompted an investigation by the state of New York into the allegations presented. The piece detailed disturbing stories of pregnant women who chose to welcome motherhood — and suffered at the hands of others as a result.

Some of these company leaders seem to forget that if their own mothers had not chosen to birth them, they might not be in their jobs either. Women are penalized for being pregnant, while men are rewarded, as the Times story cites. Is this the kind of “equality” women deserve? No… it isn’t equality at all. No woman should feel pressured to abort to compete in a so-called “man’s world.” And yet, abortion’s easy availability has contributed to the insidious idea that if a woman chooses to be a mother, she should either abort or face other consequences — consequences men don’t have to face. It’s clear that abortion has done absolutely nothing to change the sad fact of workplace discrimination against women.

Wisconsin man who spiked girlfriend’s drink with RU-486 is convicted of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child

Manishkumar M. Patel Photo: Wm. Glasheen/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin)
The case of Manishkumar M. Patel (pictured), who attempted to slip his unsuspecting girlfriend an abortifacient, has finally come to a conclusion, almost 11 years later.

On Wednesday Patel was convicted of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. “The attempted homicide charge carries a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison,” according to Alison Dirr. “Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 9.”

Patel’s girlfriend did not ingest the drink but miscarried weeks later.

This was one of the very early cases of a boyfriend slipping his pregnant girlfriend an abortifacient. As we reported previously, Darshana Patel was suspicious and did not drink the smoothie that was laced with RU-486.

This took place in November 2007. A bench warrant was issued the following January for Patel (who was not related to the woman) on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. He jumped a $750,000 cash bond, which he forfeited.

Patel’s list of criminal charges had included “second-degree recklessly endangering safety, placing foreign objects in edibles, possession with intent to deliver prescriptions, stalking, burglary, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of violating a harassment restraining order,” according to Dirr of USA Today.

Updated FDA reports at least 22 deaths associated with chemical abortions (RU-486 abortions)

For many years the only data from the FDA about the safety of the two-drug RU-486 abortion technique went all the way back to 2011. For reasons known only to the FDA, it noted an update to its numbers in March 2018.

In 2011, we learned that there have been at least 14 deaths associated with use of the abortion drugs in the U.S. (The FDA also indicated it knew of another five outside the U.S.)

The latest update tells us that as of December 31, 2017, at least 22 women have died.

“As of December 31, 2017, there were reports of 22 deaths of women associated with Mifeprex [RU-486] since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal.”

The best one can say about the report’s update on “adverse events” is that it is incomplete.

As Carole Novielli noted

In addition to deaths, between 2000 and 2012, numerous serious complications were also reported:

- Cases with any adverse event – 2740 (average 228/yr)
- Hospitalized, excluding deaths – 768 (average 64/yr)
- Experienced blood loss requiring transfusions – 416 (average 35/yr)
- Infections – 308 (average 26/yr)

We may never really know how dangerous the abortion pill is

We may never really know how dangerous the abortion pill is

At the very idea that Roe v. Wade — which overruled all state laws restricting abortion in 1973 — might eventually be overturned by the Supreme Court, the abortion industry and its friends have decided to push even harder to allow the abortion pill regimen, RU-486, to be available to women for at-home use (currently, medication abortions must be initiated under a doctor’s supervision). In California, lawmakers are also pushing for the pill to be made available on college campuses. At-home or on-campus use of these drugs is a dangerous idea, for various reasons. And yet, we probably will never truly know just how dangerous it is.

Reporting abortion complications is something people don’t often think about — and therefore, when the public hears from the abortion industry claiming medication abortion is “safe,” they may not even question: “Who’s doing the studies that claim this kind of abortion is safe? Who’s funding those studies?” and “Who’s reporting complications when things go wrong?” According to Planned Parenthood’s former research arm, the Guttmacher Institute, as of July 1, 2018, only 27 states require reporting of abortion complications — from any type of abortion. So who’s keeping track?

That’s the problem. Some states keep track, some don’t. Some abortion providers report, some don’t. And women (and their children) are ultimately the ones paying for it.

VIDEO: Pushing the abortion pill on college campuses is dangerous to women

Pushing the abortion pill on college campuses is dangerous to women

Rachel Pryce, a college student at the University of California, San Diego, has taken on a campaign to prevent the dangerous sale of the abortion pill on her campus. The freshman told The San Diego Union-Tribune why she opposes California Senate Bill 320 (SB 320). The bill passed the California Senate, but is yet to make its way through the State Assembly. It would require — not just allow, but require — public universities to sell abortion pills to pregnant women on campus. These abortions are also known as chemical abortions, medication abortions, medical abortions, and RU-486. They are generally committed in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. The universities would be under no obligation to also tell women about the possibility of abortion reversal if they regret their abortion.

In her op-ed, Rachel gives a number of reasons why even abortion supporters should not support the sale of abortion pills on college campuses. She explains that health care should “ensure our safety and well-being,” and that the most “convenient” options often do not accomplish this.

Patients in ‘vegetative state’ in the UK can now be killed without consent

Patients in ‘vegetative state’ in the UK can now be killed without consent

The United Kingdom may not have legalized assisted suicide yet, but a new court ruling indicates the country may have skipped right ahead to legalized murder instead. Currently, passive euthanasia is legal in the United Kingdom; this is when a person is killed by removing treatment and allowing them to die. This is essentially how two little boys — Alfie Evans and Charlie Gard — were killed. But until recently, doctors and families needed a court ruling allowing the person to die. Now, that will no longer be necessary; instead, if doctors and family members agree, a person in a vegetative state can be removed from life support and killed, even if they never previously expressed a wish for euthanasia.

People permitted to be killed under the new ruling are not necessarily reliant on ventilators; they do, however, need water and nutrition supplied to them through a feeding tube, which can now be removed, allowing the patient to be dehydrated and starved to death… a slow, cruel way to die. “Having looked at the issue in its wider context as well as from a narrower legal perspective, I do not consider that it has been established that the common law or the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights), in combination or separately, give rise to the mandatory requirement to involve the court to decide upon the best interests of every patient,” said Lady Black, one of the five Supreme Court justices, who ruled unanimously.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure: ‘Unborn babies cannot defend themselves and I will always defend them’

Actress Candace Cameron Bure is probably best known for her role on “Full House” as oldest daughter DJ Tanner (now reprising that role in Netflix’s “Fuller House”), but she’s also been a conservative Christian co-host on “The View,” a daytime talk show largely known for its liberal, pro-abortion slant. Bure no longer serves in this role, but while she did, she took a pro-life stand for the preborn.

In early 2016, the pro-abortion ladies of “The View” rejoiced that the Center for Medical Progress (which exposed Planned Parenthood’s involvement with harvesting and trafficking aborted fetal body parts) was indicted by a Texas Grand Jury — charges which were later dropped. Bure responded, “My view is it seems completely backward. I think these were people that were exposing something horrific that goes on, and to see them indicted is horrifying to me. And I say … woe to them who call evil good and good evil.”

Amazing TED Talk: Babies who hear ‘The Cat in the Hat’ in womb recognize it after birth
Abortion advocates frequently try to deny preborn children of their own humanity, often referring to these babies as “clumps of cells,” mere “tissue,” or “products of conception.” But this is nothing less than a complete denial of science; after all, the humanity of the preborn child is an established scientific fact. And one TED Talk given by journalist and former senior editor of “Psychology Today” Annie Murphy Paul is a perfect example of the amazing knowledge we now have about how preborn babies develop in the womb. Paul explained how babies are able to learn — even before they are born:

In the talk, Paul discusses when humans begin learning. Many people likely assume it isn’t until after birth — but this is not true, she explains, according to the new scientific study of fetal origins. Take hearing, for example. It’s known that preborn babies are able to begin hearing around 18 weeks of pregnancy. But they learn from what they hear… and they remember, too. Preborn babies remember the sound of their mother’s voice, and even express a preference for it. They even recognize passages from books read to them during pregnancy, or snippets of songs.

NY Gov. Cuomo threatens to sue Trump to keep Planned Parenthood’s Title X funding

NY Gov. Cuomo threatens to sue Trump to keep Planned Parenthood’s Title X funding
New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo is willing to take the Trump administration to court in order to keep family planning dollars flowing to the abortion industry, he declared on Monday.

In May, President Donald Trump announced that the administration would exclude facilities that perform or refer for abortions from receiving Title X family planning funds. It’s expected to eliminate more than $50 million of the $500+ million Planned Parenthood receives from federal taxpayers every year, to the applause of pro-lifers and scorn of abortion advocates like Cuomo.

University of New Mexico ends aborted baby parts research, for now

University of New Mexico ends aborted baby parts research, for now

Research using the body parts of preborn babies who were victims of abortion at the University of New Mexico will end — at least, for now. After two internal investigations revealed that Dr. Robin Ohls was found to have violated UNM Health Sciences Center policy, the university announced that the program will cease. Ohls did not have proper documentation regarding her relationship with the Michigan-based Zietchick Research Institute, where she sent the body parts of aborted babies, nor for an internal review of her research project.

Dr. Paul Roth, the chancellor of the Heath Sciences Center, banned Ohls from ever “acquiring, transferring or performing research on fetal tissue” in a June memo. Another committee, the Human Tissue Oversight Committee, was even harsher on Ohls, saying she was “negligent and knowingly violated” school policy.

Half of American women having an abortion have already had one

Half of all U.S. abortions are repeat abortions, according a report published by the Tara Health Foundation (TARA), whose stated goal is to “determine the most effective opportunities to improve access to reproductive health services in the United States using both philanthropy and impact investments.” Reproductive health services includes abortion, as indicated further on the organization’s website.

Tara Health Foundation’s Reproductive Health Investors Alliance partners with abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood, and has granted them $3.35 million. It was the Alliance’s November report where the shocking statement was made that approximately “50% of abortions are repeat abortions (460K abortions/year).”

6th CD Democrats' debate comment "Abortion is like gall bladder surgery" sets off firestorm

6th CD Democrats' debate comment "Abortion is like gall bladder surgery" sets off firestorm
The Democrat seeking to oust GOP Congressman Peter Roskam believes abortion is a medical procedure like gall bladder surgery - a comment Roskam immediately rejected during a debate last week in Chicago.

Last week, Roskam and his Democrat challenger Sean Casten debated on several issues, including abortion. Casten made an off-the-cuff remark that is likely to come back and haunt him during the last 100 days of the campaign. After Roskam confirmed that he was pro-life, Casten said abortion is like "gall bladder surgery" - and should be a woman's choice.

Democrats for Life hosts first annual conference… in the face of opposition

Democrats for Life hosts first annual conference… in the face of opposition

Last weekend, Democrats for Life hosted its inaugural annual conference in Denver. The theme of the conference was “I Want My Party Back,” and it advocated for the approximate 20% of registered Democrats who identify as pro-life. But not everyone was happy about such a conference. One group NARAL Pro-Choice VA tweeted, “So ‘Democrats for Life’ is a thing, and their inaugural conference was sponsored by Live Action (of doctored-Planned Parenthood-sting-video fame). Ugh.”

All unfounded assertions about “doctored” videos aside, NARAL Pro-Choice apparently doesn’t know that Democrats for Life isn’t a new organization. It was founded in 1999 — nearly 20 years ago.

Planned Parenthood to create PSA pushing abortion experience as ‘positive’

Planned Parenthood to create PSA pushing abortion experience as ‘positive’
If there’s one line the abortion industry has used most often to convince Americans that abortion is necessary, it’s the infamous “safe, legal, and rare” mantra promoted by former President Bill Clinton. By their own admittance, therefore, abortion shouldn’t be something that is celebrated and happens often. After all, if something is positive and good, why would we want it to be rare? But now, a new PSA casting call for Planned Parenthood proves the abortion crowd is switching gears to promote a celebratory abortion mentality.

The casting director had this to say in the email:

We are casting a PSA for Planned Parenthood to emphasis the positive impact of ROE V WADE to represent that the decision was for women’s ability to control their bodies and lives to more equitable foothold in society – the ability to pursue career and educational opportunities; the ability to lead the life they want for themselves and their families.

Like Illinois, Massachusetts governor signs repeal of pre-Roe abortion ban

If this sounds like a play from the Illinois legislative book, it is.  Illinois Governor Rauner signed HB40 last year basically doing the same thing.  On Friday, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a law repealing the state’s unenforced bans on abortion and contraception that predate the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion decision.

Pro-life activists argue the bill is merely political theater, however, citing a 1981 decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court that found a “right” to taxpayer-subsidized abortion in the state Constitution, regardless of Roe. Further, as Massachusetts is one of the most left-wing states in America, it was never likely to ban abortion and its pro-abortion moves are far from indicative of a national trend.

Federal court rules it’s unconstitutional to make abortionists show women ultrasounds

Federal court rules it’s unconstitutional to make abortionists show women ultrasounds
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a preliminary injunction on Wednesday against a 2016 law requiring Indiana abortionists to give women ultrasounds of their unborn babies at least 18 hours before having an abortion.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt originally blocked the law’s enforcement last year, and the 7th Circuit upheld that decision this week, ABC affiliate RTV-6 reports. Back in April, 7th Circuit also upheld Pratt’s rejection of the law’s provisions requiring burial or cremation for aborted babies and forbidding abortions that specifically targeted genetic abnormalities.
