Pro-Life Message Needed

Pro-Life Message Needed as Economy Falters

The most recent abortion statistics released by the U.S. government find a slight drop in the number of abortions across the country. However, as the national economy continues to sour, some Planned Parenthood clinics are reporting an upswing in business.

A year ago, abortions accounted for 1 percent of business at Planned Parenthood clinics in Fresno, Calif. Now, it's around 3 percent.

Jenn Giroux, founder and executive director of Women Influencing the Nation, said during times of economic uncertainty, the conflict of interest found inside abortion clinics is even more disturbing.

“It is an absolute abomination that the abortion provider who stands to financially gain from talking a woman into an abortion is the one counseling the woman in a difficult time," she told CitizenLink.

Carrie Gordon Earll, senior bioethics analyst at Focus on the Family Action, acknowleged that higher unemployment and financial challenges may cause some women to consider abortion when otherwise they would not.

"And that makes the pro-life message of hope and support," she said, "even more critical during this time."
