"Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day" and Planned Parenthood

Since 2006, October 15 has been designated by Congress as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States.

This day is intended for the remembrance of “pregnancy loss and infant death, which includes but is not limited to miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, or the death of a newborn.”

This is a lovely recognition of the painful loss of a baby, something millions of Americans have experienced.  It’s a loss no parent ever wants to know.

Exactly one week before this date, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled, “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining Abortion Procedures and Medical Ethics at the Nation's Largest Abortion Provider.” The hearing, which will take place in the Rayburn House Office building, will address issues raised by the release this summer of a series of videos showing Planned Parenthood officials haggling over the details of harvesting organs from aborted unborn children -- and even discussing techniques for aborting those children so as to optimize the collection of their body parts.

Life Chain hopes when church lets out, people stand up

Sunday, October 4 is the 28th annual Life Chain.

Royce Dunn, national director of Life Chain, says pro-lifers will hold signs describing the "Abortion Holocaust."

The hope is that pastors after church services will lead members of their congregation to the locations to prayerfully stand against abortion.

Dunn says it's time for churches and pastors to end the silence. He says the fight is spiritual warfare.

"In order for a Holocaust to settle in on any nation," Dunn explains, "those spiritual forces have to subdue their opposition just like in a military campaign."

House passes pro-life Women’s Public Health and Safety Act

The US House of Representatives has passed the Women’s Public Health and Safety Act, a bill introduced by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) that grants states the discretion not to provide Medicaid funding to abortion providers.

The National Committee for a Human Life Amendment, which works closely with the US bishops’ conference on pro-life legislation, supports the bill.

The bill faces an uncertain future in the Senate, and the 236-193 House vote falls over 50 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto.

NRLC asks Congress to include language defunding Planned Parenthood in Reconciliation Package

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of state right-to-life organizations, urges you (member of Congress) to actively work for inclusion of language to defund Planned Parenthood in the reconciliation package that is now being assembled for consideration by the House of Representatives in the near future.

Other measures to defund Planned Parenthood have been blocked by filibuster in the Senate. The reconciliation process provides a legislative path that avoids the filibuster. NRLC cannot support a reconciliation bill that does not include such language.

According to a Government Accountability Office report released March 20, 2015, PPFA received $344.5 million in federal funds over three fiscal years (2010-2012), and another $1.2 billion in funding from Medicaid (a combination of state and federal funds), for a three-year total of $1.5 billion from federal programs.

Over one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at PPFA-affiliated facilities – indeed, one senior Planned Parenthood official boasted in 2014, “We have 40 percent of the [abortion] market in the whole country.” PPFA requires every affiliate to provide abortions. Longstanding objections to the massive federal funding of PPFA have been reinforced by recent widely publicized undercover videos, which illuminate involvement by some PPFA affiliates and executives in the harvesting and selling of baby body parts. For additional up-to-date information on the extent of Planned Parenthood’s involvement in abortion, see: www.nrlc.org/communications/ppfamediabackground/

Stop 'corporate welfare' for Planned Parenthood, pro-life Democrats say

The House on Tuesday passed a bill allowing states to withhold Medicaid funds from health care providers that perform abortions.

The Women’s Public Health and Safety Act, introduced by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.) passed the House largely along party lines in a 236-193 vote Sept. 29. Only two Democrats – Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) and Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) – supported the bill. Nine Republicans voted against it.

Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) said that “Given the appalling activities revealed to be occurring at Planned Parenthood clinics, states should have the option to direct tax dollars away from abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and toward comprehensive health care providers,” shortly after the vote.

Although the House successfully voted to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding in the wake of the controversy, the Senate has failed to do so. Both houses have passed a short-term Continuing Resolution that funds the government through Dec. 11 and continues funding Planned Parenthood. The funding resolution was passed in the House 277-151 on Sept. 30, with a large majority of Republicans voting against it.

House Committee releases findings on Planned Parenthood finances

Planned Parenthood is self-sustaining, and the need for federal taxpayer funds to keep their doors open is questionable, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform reported Tuesday.

They also found:

-Planned Parenthood reported $1.3B in revenue in 2014; 41% of which came from government funding.
-Obamacare makes federal funding for Planned Parenthood duplicative
-Salaries at Planned Parenthood are lucrative
-Planned Parenthood spends millions on travel, galas and real estate
-Taxpayer dollars subsidize political affiliates
-Planned Parenthood sends millions overseas with no accountability
-Planned Parenthood falsely claims that only “three percent of all health services are abortion services.
-Planned Parenthood is not a primary provider of mammograms
-Planned Parenthood’s cancer screening services declined by nearly 50 percent from 2009-2013
-Numerous Alternatives to Planned Parenthood Exist

The rest is in a memo from the committee chairman HERE.

Illinois' own representation on the committee is senatorial candidate Tammy Duckworth, who has continuously emphasized her support for Planned Parenthood. She joined with several of her female Democrats on the committee, saying the Republicans are continuing their "assault" on Planned Parenthood.

NRLC urges Congress to support the Women’s Public Health and Safety Act (H.R. 3495)

Dear Member of Congress:

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of state right-to-life organizations, urges you to support the Women’s Public Health and Safety Act (H.R. 3495), sponsored by Congressman Sean Duffy, when it comes before the House of Representatives on September 29.

PPFA is also the nation’s largest provider of abortions. Over one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at PPFA-affiliated facilities – indeed, one senior Planned Parenthood official boasted in 2014, “We have 40 percent of the [abortion] market in the whole country.” PPFA now defines abortion as a “core” service, which means that PPFA requires every PPFA affiliate to provide abortions. For additional up-to-date information on the extent of Planned Parenthood’s involvement in abortion, see: www.nrlc.org/communications/ppfamediabackground/

H.R. 3495 would make it clear that federal law does not prevent a state from, at its option, excluding organizations that provide elective abortions from the Medicaid program. We urge you to support this vital legislation. NRLC intends to include the roll call on passage of H.R. 3495 in our scorecard of key pro-life roll calls of the 114th Congress.

Made available to young teens, use of Plan B has increased

In 2006, teens 18 years old and up could buy Plan B, otherwise known as the morning after pill, without a prescription. Those age limits were lifted in 2015 so younger girls can buy it, or their boyfriend or adult molester. Penny Nance is president of Concerned Women for America, and she says the results of allowing younger girls to use the morning after pill are concerning.

“Now that we've made the morning after pill available for anyone at any age, we're seeing an extreme increase in teen use,” she tells OneNewsNow. “About a decade ago, it was one in twelve kids using it, and now a report has come out that about one in five teenage girls have used the morning after pill, which we know is an abortifacient.”

That may be due to promiscuity, but another problem is that the Food and Drug Administration rushed the drug through the process without research on how the drug would impact growing bodies. It's a very strong dose of birth control medication.

A chance to overturn Roe v. Wade?

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge plans to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal of lower court decisions that have gutted the Arkansas Heartbeat bill.

Cox, Jerry (Arkansas Family Council)"Back a few years ago, the Arkansas Legislature passed a really good law that essentially bans most abortions after the 12th week of pregnancy," explains Jerry Cox of the Family Council. "[It] made a few exceptions in there, but for the most part, about 98 percent of the abortions would be banned after the 12th week."

However, a St. Louis federal court, then the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down that part of the law. Cox says the intent of the bill is to save babies' lives and also to give the high court an opportunity.

Speaker Boehner Resigns

In a surprise move, House Speaker John Boehner has announced that he will retire at the end of October. Citing division in the Republican caucus as we head into the final phase of debates over funding the government, Boehner was having difficulty keeping confidence in his leadership because of division on Planned Parenthood funding.

"Speaker Boehner has a golden opportunity to do the country and preborn babies a favor by leading the charge to not allow one penny of our tax dollars to go to Planned Parenthood.  He can unite his party and save children at the same time." -- Mark Harrington, Executive Director, Created Equal

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition makes the following statement:

"Speaker Boehner was moved to tears yesterday when Pope Francis spoke before a joint session of congress.  A powerful part of the Popes message was to protect life at all stages of development.  The pro-life community calls upon Speaker Boehner to embrace those words and to give assurances that Planned Parenthood will not get one penny of tax payer money.  This is an historic moment for our nation and for congress and we pray after the Popes inspiring words that congress would work to ensure that the most defenseless in our society are protected and not give 520 million to the largest abortion provider in the world.  Simply stated, we cannot follow the Popes message of love and justice for all and fund Planned Parenthood."

Dear Pro-life Friend

By now most of us have watched the series of Planned Parenthood videos.  Each revelation is increasingly more horrific.  But truly we should not be surprised.  We are repulsed and heartbroken but not surprised.

Think about what we have seen as we fight to save innocent lives.  Partial Birth AbortionBorn alive babies left to die.  Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s House of Horrors.  Dangerous filthy uninspected clinics that injure and kill women.

Over and over again we have seen the truth of the abortion industry.  The selling of organs from the bodies of violently butchered babies is the inevitable outcome of the relentless march of the evil that is abortion.

I think an especially frightening aspect of this onslaught against the sanctity of life is the callous indifference of the individuals at Planned Parenthood and Stem Cell Express.  What we see is the deadening effect of a life time of disregard for the value of human life.

We cry for the little ones and they joke.

Years before I became active in the pro-life movement my young son came across the film “The Silent Scream” on television.  I knew he was watching something disturbing because his face was white as a sheet as he sat in front of the T. V.  He looked at me with tears in his eyes and asked, “Where do they do this?”  On the screen was the image of an unborn child thrashing about as his life was violently ended.   My son’s reaction to viewing the killing of a baby in the womb was a normal reaction.  God have mercy on those who are indifferent to such brutality.

I remember when Partial Birth Abortion came to light and we were desperately trying to get the truth out to the public.  I walked door-to-door in Springfield handing out pamphlets that illustrated the gruesome procedure.  Many doors were slammed in my face.  Many times I was called a liar and a trouble-maker.  Denial, anger and accusations were common reactions.

Then the news that a baby born alive after an abortion was left to die on the floor of a soiled linen closet at Christ Hospital. A nurse named Jill Stanek found the baby. She devoted her life to stopping that barbaric act. Jill's reaction was heroic.

Jessica Schuessler felt God calling her to do something to get churches more involved in the pro-life movement.  Now she is working to get the book “Deliver Us from Abortion” in the hands of all Protestant and Catholic pastors throughout the state of Illinois.  She has developed an adopt-a-church program asking people to contribute $13.00 for the cost of the book so she can fulfill her goal of blanketing all the churches in Illinois.  She was obedient and answered the call.

People have many different reactions when faced with the awful truth about abortion.  You, my pro-life friend, are among the heroic and obedient.

On August 22, 2015 there were 320 protests at Planned Parenthood facilities across this nation.  I was honored to speak at the Springfield Right to Life protest. I know that many of you took the time to gather together that day to demand that Planned Parenthood stop receiving tax dollars.

On September 3, 2015 a coalition of eleven pro-life/pro-family groups met in Chicago outside of Senator Mark Kirk’s office. Jill Stanek, now with Susan B. Anthony List, called a press conference to bring attention to Kirk’s support for the funding of Planned Parenthood.  The Federation was there to demand that our tax dollars no longer be used to murder and desecrate innocent life.  We challenged him to change his mind and vote to defund Planned Parenthood.

Since the beginning of the spring 2015 Legislative Session we have been fighting SB1564.  This bill requires crisis pregnancy centers to violate their conscious by forcing them to refer abortion-minded clients to facilities that perform abortions. The deadline for the bill has been extended an outrageous four (4) times to keep it alive for a vote all through the summer.  The Federation has continued to keep watch over SB1564.   Your actions, calling legislators and writing letters and emails, have been instrumental in keeping this bill from being called for a vote.

We must never stop telling the truth.  We must remain obedient.  We must answer the call.  We must never stop fighting the evil that is abortion.  The Federation is dedicated to the proposition that together we will win this battle.

When my son asked me "Where do they do this?"  I had to tell him, "They do it here."  If we continue to work together and do not grow weary of doing what is right the day will come when we can tell our children, :  "They don't do it here."

The IFRL is your eyes, ears and voice in Springfield as is our parent organization National Right to Life in Washington  D.C. What we do, can do and will do in the future depends on your generosity.  It is only through the generosity of you our donors that we can be that effective voice and face of the Pro-Life movement in Springfield and DC.   We ask you to consider this as you evaluate how much you will be able to contribute to our efforts on behalf of the unborn and about to be born.

Please help us with your prayers and financial support.  We promise to be faithful with your donations.

Thank you for all you have done.  Thank you for all you are doing. Thank you for all you will do in the future.

For life,

Dawn Behnke
President IFRL

Kirk opposes protecting unborn babies from feeling pain

Tuesday, babies at least 20 weeks along in development within the womb were denied protection from pain suffered during abortion, after the Republican majority failed to gather the needed 60 votes to close debate on H.R. 36 - the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

Illinois' U.S. Senator Mark Kirk and Maine's Susan Collins were the only two Republicans that voted against the bill, along with GOP Senator Barbara Murkowski, who did not vote. Republicans gathered 53 votes, along with one Democrat's help, to reach 54 votes, leaving it short six for advancement.

Kirk, who has time and time again reaffirmed that he opposes any restrictions on abortion, faces re-election in 2016.

Center for Medical Progress' lawyers turn over unedited videos to Congress

Unedited videos recorded by Center for Medical Progress' David Daleiden will be in the hands of a congressional oversight committee as soon as Thursday, the group's Chicago-based lawyers said Wednesday. The group's unedited footage of encounters with Planned Parenthood has been subpoenaed by The U.S. House's Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The Center said it will provide the requested videos, except for those that are being restrained by court order in California's Northern District Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Thomas More Society, the Center's legal representation, says they are appealing in order to get the censured videos to Congress.

"We have respectfully contended in Federal Court, both before the Northern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, that this Order is an illegal 'prior restraint' that violates CMP’s right to free speech under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and its California analog," the letter says. "We have also respectfully contended that this Order cannot apply to subpoenas from law enforcement agencies or the U.S. Congress."

National Life Chain Sunday 2015 -- October 4

On Sunday afternoon, October 4,  Life Chains will again occupy U.S. and Canadian sidewalks. There we will pray and witness on behalf of voiceless fellow citizens—the precious Preborns imperiled by surgical mutilation and abortive birth controls. Each participant will hold a Life message (sign), and www.LifeChain.net will again post the location and time of each Chain.

On October 4, let us remember the videos God produced through the Center for Medical Progress. Therein God revealed the abhorrent "face of abortion" through the deceptive and barbarous mind of Planned Parenthood. But God revealed more. To the church in America, Canada, and the other Western nations, especially, He revealed, as noted above, the horrid evil that we have shielded for decades evil that He commanded us to "expose" and "hate."

Majority of U.S. Senate votes to advance Pain-Capable Child Protection Act, but Democrats block consideration

A majority of the U.S. Senate today voted to advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), but on a near party-line vote, a minority blocked consideration of the bill.

Fifty-four (54) senators (51 Republicans and three Democrats) voted to take the bill up for debate, but 60 votes were required. The motion was opposed by 42 senators (two Republicans and 40 Democrats), with four senators absent (one Republican and three Democrats).

The bill would extend federal protections to unborn children who have reached 20 weeks fetal age (22 weeks of pregnancy), with certain exceptions, and to babies who are born alive during late abortions. The bill was developed from model legislation offered by National Right to Life in 2010,enacted thus far in 12 states. The legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 13, 242-184.

ACTION ALERT - Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

U.S. Senate to vote Sept. 22 on Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act!

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will force a Senate vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36) on Tuesday, September 22.

This legislation would extend general protection to unborn children nationwide beginning at 20 weeks fetal age, based on congressional recognition that by this point in development, if not earlier, the unborn child is capable of experiencing pain during an abortion.

The legislation is based on an NRLC-originated model bill that has been enacted in 12 states.

H.R. 36 already passed the House of Representatives on May 13, 2015, by a vote of 242-184.  H.R. 36 is nearly identical to a Senate companion bill, S. 1553, sponsored by Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC)

Roskam: I Will Always Stand for Life

Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06), a member of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, and H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Roskam helped introduce the Defund Planned Parenthood Act in July following the release of multiple videos of senior Planned Parenthood officials discussing the trafficking of fetal body parts.

“We must remain vigilant in our fight to protect the most vulnerable among us—those infants and the unborn who are unable to protect themselves. The horrific Planned Parenthood practices exposed in recent weeks brings a renewed urgency to this issue. These bills are an important step forward in defense of life, and I will always stand for life.”

Roskam also spoke on the House floor in support of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

GOP Congressman Bob Dold votes against, Democrat Lipinski for defunding Planned Parenthood

Illinois Congressman Bob Dold (IL-10) split with House Republicans Friday and voted to keep sending federal taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood. Congressman Dan Lipinski was one of three Democrats that voted to stop sending funds to Planned Parenthood.

The 241 to 187 House vote included three Republicans voting against stripping the funding while 183 Democrats voted against it.

After undercover videos showed Planned Parenthood officials admitting that numerous affiliates sell body parts from human babies aborted in their clinics, several states launched investigations into whether the illegal practice were taking place in their jurisdictions. So far, South Carolina, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana have initiated investigations in Planned Parenthood's practices.

Illinois has not moved to investigate or defund its 21 Planned Parenthood clinics.
