Iowa governor signs bill banning abortions on babies with beating hearts
Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed Iowa’s just-passed ban on abortion once a baby’s heartbeat is detected, establishing her state as having the strongest pro-life laws in America.
“We couldn't be more pleased,” said Iowans for Life head Maggie DeWitte. “[Reynolds] is following through on her pledge to the people of Iowa that she is 100 percent pro-life.”

Guess who aims to control abortion debate in Senate
President Trump has expressed his intent to sign pro-life legislation such as a bill to ban abortions at 20 weeks, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
The legislation passed in the House but failed to obtain the 60 votes necessary in the Senate to even debate the measure.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, points out there are three branches of the federal government and one of them failed to act.
"The president would have signed that five-month pain capable bill if the Senate had been able to send it to him," she says. "He asked for it. He spoke to that very eloquently. But if the Senate can't pass the bill and have the Congress send him that bill, he simply can't sign it."
Under the present system, a mere two or three senators can effectively prevent the full Senate from advancing a pro-life bill to the floor for a vote.

153 Members Call for New Title X Regulations - Take Abortion Out of Family Planning Programs
U.S. Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ-04), Diane Black (R-TN-06), Ron Estes (R-KS-04), and Vicky Hartzler (R-MO-04) joined 149 of their colleagues in sending a letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar requesting that the department move swiftly to issue new regulations for the Title X Family Planning Program.
National Right to Life has also asked HHS to issue new Title X regulations consistent with those issued during the presidency of Ronald Reagan.
Citing the troubling ways existing Title X regulations have blurred the line between abortion and family planning, the letter calls for revised regulations that will require the federally-funded Title X service sites to be physically and financially separate from facilities that provide abortion, and to eliminate the federal mandate requiring Title X providers to refer for abortions.

Killing unborn children not a human right, says State Department
In presenting the annual U.S. report on global human rights, Ambassador Michael Kozak told reporters that abortion is not a human right and therefore "reproductive rights" was no longer included in the report.
"Reproductive rights" was a rather recent addition to the report, included by the Obama administration that, Kozak claims, never intended the term to include abortion. He said it only acquired that meaning in recent years through its use by partisans on both sides of the abortion debate. If this were true, the question arises as to why the term abortion is used under the "reproductive rights" section in the 2013 report on Ireland. Pro-lifers would point out that at least in general usage, the term has always included abortion. Kozak did correctly describe abortion as a largely unsettled question of national policy around the world.

Chicago police work to raise awareness and save newborn babies
April is “Save Abandoned Babies Month” in Illinois, and the Chicago Police Department has been raising awareness of life-saving Safe Haven Laws in an effort to save babies’ lives. According to local station WTTW, Chicago Police plan to “distribut[e] thousands of information cards across the city, detailing the law in hopes of expanding community awareness.” The department has also been spreading awareness through social media:
April is Save Abandoned Babies Month in Illinois, an effort to raise awareness of the Illinois Abandoned Newborn Protection Act and subsequent Baby Safe Haven Law. Since it was enacted in 2001, at least 126 newborn infants in Illinois have benefited under this law. #ILSafeHaven pic.twitter.com/jjZexwiQA3
The law allows a desperate parent to legally relinquish an unharmed newborn 30 days old or younger to staff at any Illinois hospital, police or fire station without fear of prosecution. No questions need to be answered. #ILSafeHaven pic.twitter.com/iZTr7cAnKR
To date, Illinois’ Safe Haven Law has saved the lives of 126 babies since 2001, who would otherwise have been abandoned and may not have survived. CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson told WTTW, “Once you know about the safe haven law, talk about it. You might just save a life, and as we know, there’s nothing more precious than the gift of life.” CFD Commissioner Jose Santiago likewise stated, “If there is any parent who is feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders, the Chicago Fire Department will be here when you need us, and no baby will ever be turned away.” Officers got the opportunity to meet with children who were saved because of the state’s Safe Haven Law.

Pro-life Pompeo confirmed as Secretary of State; abortion advocates pounce
The Senate confirmed Mike Pompeo as the next U.S. Secretary of State, to the delight of social conservatives and the anger of pro-abortion voices.
The Senate voted 57-42 to confirm him Thursday, Fox News reported. The former Kansas Republican congressman and Donald Trump’s CIA director replaces former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who the president fired in March.

Alfie Evans, dies early Saturday morning
Alfie Evans, whose “Alfie’s Army” enlisted recruits from all over the world, died early Saturday morning, five days after being taken off his ventilator by Alder Hey Children’s Hospital which refused to allow his parents to take him to Italy for further examination and possible treatment.
The hospital also managed to drag out negotiations with his father, Thomas Evans, so there was no opportunity for the grievously ill 23-month-old toddler to die at home with Mr. Evans and Kate James, Alfie’s mother.
Alfie’s death was announced on the Facebook page of Alfie’s Army and on Mr. Evans personal Facebook page.
My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings at 02:30 -- absolutely heartbroken -- I LOVE YOU MY GUY
There were emotional scenes as Alfie Evans supporters released hundreds of balloons into the sky in memory of the “warrior” toddler.

Goal of abortion extremists is to force Americans to embrace abortion as mainstream health care and to pay for it
To those who see abortion for what it is—an abortionist purposefully and brutally killing an innocent, defenseless human life in her or his mother’s womb, —advocating for its legality (even as a constitutional “right”) is nothing less than extremism.
So, it seems hard to imagine an even greater level of extremism being advanced by the abortion industry and its adherents in elected office, the media, and elsewhere. But the evidence is clear and plentiful.
For starters, the abortion industry has been shifting its euphemistic mantras from “freedom of choice” and “if you don’t like abortion, then don’t have one” to “abortion is health care.” This rhetorical shift is necessary for its pursuit of a more extreme policy agenda to force Americans to embrace abortion as mainstream health care and to pay for it.
This agenda includes forcing health care providers and institutions to provide, participate in, or refer for abortion—and to force all Americans to pay for abortions through their health care plans. Tragically, we can already see this agenda becoming reality.

Alfie Evans’ parents give ‘final interview,’ asks for privacy
Reportedly after spending the afternoon in talks with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, an exhausted Tom Evans made what The Mirror described as a “dramatic u-turn,” calling on “Alfie’s Army” to “return back to your everyday lives ”and praising the hospital staff “for their dignity and professionalism during what must be an incredibly difficult time for them too.”
In a letter, Tom Evans and Kate James, Alfie’s mother, wrote
Together we recognise the strains recent events have put upon us all, and we now wish for privacy for everyone concerned.
In Alfie’s interests we will work with his treating team on a plan that provides our boy with the dignity and comfort he needs.
From this point onwards there will be no more statements issued, or interviews given.
The hospital took Alfie off of his ventilator Monday, a little after 9;00pm, London time. As this post is being written, Alfie has breathed on his own for over three days. Left unsaid in any of the coverage is that reportedly Alfie has received no nutrition, only water, since his ventilator was disconnected.

Pelosi: We’ll use pro-life Democrats to build pro-abortion majority
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (pictured) once again waded into her party’s civil war over abortion litmus tests, this time arguing that acceptance of pro-life Democrats ultimately serves pro-abortion interests.
Pelosi referenced her endorsement of Rep. Dan Lipinski of Illinois, a pro-life Democrat who warded off pro-abortion primary challenger Marie Newman in March. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee refused to endorse Lipinski. Some pro-life figures and groups like the Susan B. Anthony List supported Lipinski as a “pro-life hero,” but Pelosi suggested that Lipinski’s victory would ultimately help a pro-abortion majority retake the U.S. House of Representatives.

VIDEO: Alfie Evans’ father: ‘Look at this smile! We’re asking to go home.’
The parents of Alfie Evans will today meet with doctors of Alder Hey hospital and they are asking to take their child home.
"Some people are saying it’s a miracle. It’s not a miracle. It’s a misdiagnosis. There’s no miracle about this. I’ve had a feeling about Alfie’s condition for a long time now … he’s been off the ventilator for three and there’s been no deterioration. He hasn’t awoken, he’s still a little bit weak, but what we ask for is to go home to sustain his life because there have been no neurological assessments here. There’s been no immediate care for him. It’s just nurses sitting outside the room and leaving us in the room to do what we do. What we do now, we can do at home,” Tom Evans said.

Alfie Evans forced to remain in UK hospital, judge rules against separate appeals from both parents
At a hearing held today at 2:15 p.m. at the London Court of Appeal, Lord Justice Andrew Mcfarlane, Lord Justice Peter Coulson and Lady Justice Eleanor King rejected an appeal to allow Alfie Evan’s parents to take him to Italy, upholding Justice Anthony Hayden’s earlier ruling not to allow the child’s parents to seek care abroad.
According to SkyNews reporter, Dan Whitehead, who was in the courtroom, the lawyer representing Thomas Evans, Paul Diamond of the Christian Legal Centre, told the court an Italian military air ambulance was on standby at the request of Pope Francis. In response, Lord Justice McFarlane said that authorities in Italy and the Vatican have “no jurisdiction” over decisions about Alfie. He described Thomas Evans’ religious views “plain, brave, unflinching and unstinting.”
It is still unknown if Alfie will be allowed to go home.

The heartbreaking consequences of abortion in China and India
China and India are notorious for their cultural preference for boys. Because of this, abortion has become a valuable tool to help commit gendercide. In China, a One-Child Policy led millions upon millions of baby girls to be aborted, and caused horrific human rights abuses. In India, a baby is aborted every two seconds, many of them girls.
Now, the results are being keenly felt. In China and India, men now outnumber women by 70 million.

Judge rejects request to transport Alfie Evans to Italy
Evidently there is nothing Alfie Evans can do, no matter how contrary to predictions of the medical “experts,” that will persuade trial judge Justice Hayden to allow his parents to take their very ill toddler to Bambino GesĂș Hospital, in Italy.
Doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool took Alfie off the ventilator at roughly 9pm London time. Contrary to assurances made during the seven-day hearing before Justice Hayden that Alfie’s death “could be quite quick” once he was taken off of life-support, Alfie is holding his own almost a day later, breathing independently.
A spokeswoman for the Christian Legal Centre, which is representing Tom Evans and Kate James, said
“Alfie has survived much longer than the doctors predicted, lending support to the request from Alfie’s parents for Alfie to be seen by medical experts in Italy
“An air ambulance is now waiting outside Alder Hey Hospital ready to take Alfie to hospital in Italy.”
But Justice Hayden was unpersuaded, according to Rebecca Koncienzcy and Josh Parry of the Liverpool Echo. He wanted today’s rejection to be the “final chapter in the case of this extraordinary little boy.”

Alfie Evans case to be heard AGAIN this afternoon as tot survives 15 hours at Alder Hey hospital without life support
Tom Evans, 21, told supporters his 23-month-old son was taken off his ventilator at 9.17pm yesterday, with doctors "gobsmacked" that the little boy was still fighting and breathing on his own 15 hours later.
A High Court judge is this afternoon set to oversee a further hearing - with the case to be discussed about 3.30pm at Manchester.
It could be another glimmer of hope for the tot's family after they lost their last-ditch appeal at the High Court on Monday, having hoped that the tot would be permitted to travel overseas for a possible diagnosis and treatment of his degenerative neurological condition.

U.N. commission fails after U.S., Africa refuse to back abortion ‘rights’
The United Nations Commission on Population and Development has concluded without producing an outcome document, thanks to opposition from the United States and all 54 countries that make up the African group. The refusal to accept the document involved sovereignty and the push for abortion “rights” within the document.
The theme of this year’s panel was migration, and the African group successfully lobbied for more expansive migrant rights. Developing countries can gain funding if the document passes, showing just how seriously the African group took their concerns about sovereignty and abortion. The African nations wanted language that would have protected their rights to choose their own policies on controversial issues like abortion, which the African group specifically mentioned as having too many references in the document. The United States likewise was concerned about the push for abortion within the document.
