Chicago Approves Abortion Sanctuary City Ordinance

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D)
On Sept 21, the Chicago City Council approved the “Bodily Autonomy Sanctuary City Ordinance,” preventing Chicago city employees from cooperating with other states with investigations involving laws against abortion or "gender-affirming care."

This ordinance protects abortionists who flee to Chicago after committing an illegal abortion in another state. Chicago employees are barred from “provid[ing] information related to, or in furtherance of, any investigation or proceeding initiated in or by another state or jurisdiction that seeks to impose civil or criminal liability or professional sanctions upon a person for the provision or receipt of, or any inquiry concerning, reproductive health care or gender-affirming care that is legal in the State of Illinois.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot signed an executive order to the same effect earlier this year, but now the city council has a written ordinance on the books that will continue the policy until it is amended or repealed.
