Healthcare reform and abortion - getting the truth

The Susan B. Anthony List has posted a video on YouTube to answer questions about healthcare legislation.

Marjorie DannenfelserSpokesperson Marjorie Dannenfelser tells OneNewsNow the video clears the air between what is coming out of Washington and the truth. She contends current proposals do call for the government to fund abortions.

"It does this by funding premiums from private insurance plans that do cover elective abortions. Current law says that no federal funds may go to subsidize private health plans for elective abortion." She concludes that "this bill would change all that."

Supporters of the current reform measures have consistently insisted the bills do not fund abortions, but according to Dannenfelser there is good reason to be suspicious.

"Here's the bottom line," says Dannenfelser. "When they say the bill has no government-funded abortions, but then defeat every amendment that tries to put that in writing in the bill, how can you believe them about anything?"

Surveys show that most Americans are opposed to tax dollars being used for abortion on demand.
