The Oklahoma Legislature unanimously passed a ban on human cloning last week. The measure now goes to Gov. Brad Henry, although his signature is not a sure thing.

"He's vetoed the (ban on) embryonic stem-cell research," said Mike Jestes, executive director of the Oklahoma Family Policy Council. "So there's a chance he'll veto this."

The House passed the bill by an 83-0 vote; the Senate approved it 44-0. The bill prohibits all human cloning — including the creation of embryos for the purpose of harvesting their stem cells, and reproductive cloning.

Speaking to reporters about the approval of a new law on abortion by the Council of Ministers, Rodriguez Sendin said it was an "error" and "unfortunate" that the legal age for an abortion without parent consent was dropped to 16 and that it would create worse problems for families than those that already exist in such cases.

Dr. Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, devoted his radio show Monday to the president's appearance at the Catholic university on Sunday. At one point during the speech, Obama called for common ground on the abortion issue.

"Is it possible for us to join hands in common effort, as citizens of a vibrant and varied democracy?" he asked rhetorically. "How do we engage in vigorous debate?"
