Woman Dies After Botched Abortion
A call centre employee, who slipped into a coma while undergoing an abortion, died on Monday even as her father alleged that she was murdered by her co-worker who claims to be her husband. The victim, S Sneha (22), died in the wee hours on Monday at Care Hospital, Banjara Hills while undergoing treatment. An abortion was performed on her at a private hospital at Vijaynagar Colony a few days back and Sneha developed complications during the operation.

Fertility Quack: 'I Can Clone A Human Being'
A controversial fertility doctor claimed yesterday to have cloned 14 human embryos and transferred 11 of them into the wombs of four women who had been prepared to give birth to cloned babies. The alleged cloning was recorded by an independent documentary film-maker who has testified to The Independent that the cloning had taken place and that the women were genuinely hoping to become pregnant with the first cloned embryos specifically created for the purposes of human reproduction. Panayiotis Zavos has allegedly broken the ultimate taboo of transferring cloned embryos into the human womb, a procedure that is a criminal offence in Britain and illegal in many other countries.

Pro-Life Groups Say 'Restraint' of NIH Guidelines for Embryo-Destroying Research is Deceptive
According to draft guidelines released Friday by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), taxpayer-funded embryo-destructive research will not create human life for harvesting, but will only use "leftover" embryos from fertility clinics. While left-leaning scientists are dissatisfied with the restriction, pro-life groups have also said that the guidelines will ultimately do little to rein in more expansive future forms of destructive human experimentation. Pro-life critics have said that the regulations are simply a significant step in a deliberate incremental plan towards ensuring unrestricted federal funding for every stage of embryo-destructive research.

Pro-Lifers On the Post Office Wall
The headline on the Drudge Report really didn't do justice to the content of the Homeland Security report issued by its new director, Janet Napolitano, warning against "right wing" terrorism. Basically any interest group opposing the Obama administration is listed as potentially dangerous -- pro-lifers, anti-immigration activists, gun owners, and -- get this-- military veterans who find it hard to integrate into society upon their return from active service. The report is being used, obviously, to set up hate crimes' legislation, supported by Obama, that would criminalize specific language used about, among other groups, homosexuals (yes, also lesbians and the transgendered).

Environmentalists Call for 'One Child Policy'
Australia should consider having a one-child policy to protect the planet, an environmental lobby group says. Sustainable Population Australia says slashing the world's population is the only way to avoid "environmental suicide''. National president Sandra Kanck wants Australia's population of almost 22 million reduced to seven million to tackle climate change.

Mexican states continue to preempt efforts to legalize abortion
The Nayarit State Congress in Mexico has passed a reform of the state’s constitution that guarantees the right to life of all human beings from conception to natural death.
The amendment, approved by a vote of 27-3, was supported across party lines. Representative Roberto Contreras Cantabrana of the Party of the Democratic Revolution said, “I support life. I will never support disturbing the development of a new life. The Mexican government and the Health Department work every day to protect healthy pregnancies so they end with a safe delivery.”
