When a Womb for Rent Goes Unpaid, is Eviction Abortion?
When you rent a room and don't keep up with your payments, you're evicted. But if you hire a surrogate mother to bear your child and don't pay her, does she have the right to 'evict' (i.e. abort) your fetus? An article at Slate.com compares the AIG and Bernie Madoff scandals to a California case involving a company that employs surrogate mothers for infertile couples; it's described as "a familiar tale of vanishing funds and defaulted obligations" but with a twist - it's not life savings but life that's at risk. The company, SurroGenesis, matched couples with surrogate mothers and encouraged the parents to place their money in a trust fund - administered by a partner company - which would pay the surrogates. On March 13, clients learned that their money was gone.

Forty percent of out-of-wedlock pregnancies in Spain are terminated by abortion
The president of the Institute for Family Policy, Eduardo Hertfelder, said this week that the latest data shows "4 out of every 10 out-of-wedlock pregnancies" in Spain end in abortion, indicating the failure of the government’s family policy.
He explained that the rates have increased since 2007 when "out of every 10 pregnancies, two ended in abortion and three were out of wedlock." This translates to almost 150,000 children born to unmarried parents and 66,489 abortions by single parents.

Abortions Increase Nationwide in Face of Economy
Planned Parenthood of Illinois clinics performed an all-time high number of abortions in January, many of them motivated by the women's economic worries, said chief executive Steve Trombley, who declined to give exact numbers. Other cities report similar increases. Stephanie Poggi of the National Network of Abortion Funds, which helps women in need pay for abortions, said calls to the network's national help line have nearly quadrupled from a year ago. "They're telling us: 'I've already put off paying my rent, my electric bill. I'm cutting back on my food.' They've run through all the options," she said.

Tiller Testifies in Abortion Case Against Him
A Wichita doctor accused of violating the state's late-term abortion law is testifying at his trial.
Dr. George Tiller took the stand Wednesday in his own defense. He's accused of breaking a state law requiring that an independent Kansas physician sign off on any late-term abortion.
Tiller went on trial Monday on 19 misdemeanor charges stemming from abortions he performed in 2003.
Prosecutors rested their case Tuesday against Tiller, who is one of the nation's few late-term abortion providers.
Prosecutors called one witness: Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus, the consulting physician who provided the second opinion required for the procedure.
