Sorry About Your Loss, Mom. Now Can We Use Part of Your Baby?
Professor Sir Richard Gardner, a leading scientist for stem cell research at Oxford University, England, proposed using parts of aborted fetuses as transplantable material for the ill last week causing great concern for those believing in the sanctity of human life. Sir Richard called for studies into the feasibility of transplanting fetal organs into adults and found it curious that it hasn't been done already. He claimed it would take much research to prove the feasibility of the idea. Imagine what this concept would result in, however. Who cannot realize the Pandora's box of horrors that would be opened with this idea? Should such an idea take hold we necessarily would find doctors telling mothers that it is OK to abort their children because it "might save a life" all so that researchers would have more fetal material to study.

More Women Seeking 'Aid' for Crisis Pregnancies
Planned Parenthood of Illinois says that in January it performed the highest number of abortions in its history. Meanwhile, calls to the Cradle, a private adoption agency in Evanston, Ill., have increased in number over the past two months, said agency spokeswoman Joan Yaeger. Women exploring alternatives to abortion also have been calling anti-abortion and faith-based organizations for counseling. The National Network of Abortion Funds, whose members raise money to help women pay for abortions, says calls to state and local affiliates from women seeking financial assistance have increased by 50 percent to more than 100 percent in recent months.

Catholic Priests to Perform Exorcism at Rockford Abortion Clinic
Catholic priests from the Rockford diocese will perform an exorcism Monday at a Rockford abortion clinic. The Rev. Brian Geary, pastor at St. James in Belvidere, stressed that the priests won't be casting demons out of individuals, as popularly depicted on television and film. But he did say the clinic was "infested by evil" and needed to be cleansed. The Northern Illinois Women's Center, 1400 Broadway, was closed this weekend. But their Web site advises women to ignore protestors who are commonly seen in the area.

More Planned Parenthoods Sending Women Home After Dangerous Abortions
The 2008 Report on Planned Parenthood Facilities in the United States shows the nation's largest abortion chain has decreased its total number of facilities, but increased the number of facilities performing medical abortions. "This new focus shift from surgical to dangerous medical abortions shows Planned Parenthood values profit over the lives of the women," said Marie Hahnenberg, a researcher for American Life League. "Planned Parenthood is giving women poisonous drugs to kill their preborn children and sending them home to finish the abortion – frightened and alone. Planned Parenthood is raking money in hand over fist at the expense of women poisoned and children killed."

Susan B. Anthony List Recruits Former Rep. Musgrave To Target Abortion-Rights Lawmakers
The Susan B. Anthony List, a group that mobilizes women who oppose abortion rights, on Thursday announced that former Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colo.) will lead an initiative targeting lawmakers who are "out of sync" with the abortion views of their constituents, the Politico reports. The group has not yet identified specific legislators they plan to target. According to the Politico, Musgrave lost her House seat during the 2008 election.
Abortion-rights opponents "have constantly been on the defensive" under President Obama's administration and the new Congress, Musgrave said. She added that the campaign will employ an "aggressive, strategic effort to educate pro-life voters early and often" and that the group will be "assertive, strategic and focused in our efforts to elevate the cause of life at the grassroots level."

Opinion Piece Examines Support Services For Women Who 'Refuse To Abort' Fetuses With Genetic Defects
Pregnant women whose fetuses are diagnosed with a "defect" often are told by a "small army of doctors and genetics counselors" that they should "[e]nd the pregnancy and get one of those horrendous second or third-trimester abortions, where the child perches on the edge of viability," Washington Times columnist Julia Duin writes in an opinion piece.
Duin adds that she recently has "become aware of a network of Catholics who are fighting such dire diagnoses with Web sites and support groups." Duin examines the experiences of several families who were advised to abort fetuses that were diagnosed with defects.
