Colorado Woman Sues Abortionist

Colorado Woman Sues Abortionist for Live Birth

Dionne Dotson went to Dell L. Bernstein, M.D., for an abortion, but later gave birth to a healthy baby. She's suing the abortionist, alleging negligent medical treatment "causing injuries resulting from the pregnancy, delivery and financial burden of raising an unplanned child."

Initially the court said Dotson had no case, but now the Colorado Court of Appeals has ruled she can go ahead with the lawsuit.

Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issues analysis at Focus on the Family Action, said parents used to pray for a healthy baby, but not anymore.

"This lawsuit demonstrates that we've turned a sharp corner," she said. "Abortion is not only viewed as a 'right' but – specifically – a right to a dead baby. Nothing less will suffice or you will be sued."

Earll added that a case like this proves public policy issues like abortion or marriage law should not be left to judges, but should be decided by the people and their chosen representatives.
