Fund Abstinence Education

Letter Asks Obama to Fund Abstinence Education

The National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) has sent a letter to President-elect Barack Obama asking that he continue to fund abstinence education. The letter is signed by more 500 people, including physicians, educators and parents, as well as members of community organizations, health departments and youth-empowerment agencies.

"The overwhelming response by diverse groups underscores the fact that the health of our youth is a pressing concern to a broad spectrum of Americans," said Valerie Huber, executive director of NAEA. "It also emphasizes that the abstinence-centered message is recognized as a vital public health risk avoidance strategy that must be continued.

Not on Our Watch

Not on Our Watch

The author is Newsweek's Lisa Miller, and the piece that I read online comes from the magazine's December 8 issue. The headline (and accompanying subhead) promised an intriguing, thought-provoking article. "No God--And No Abortions: Pro-life atheists insist that a human life has intrinsic value, even though they don't believe in God." And it is worth reading, but not primarily because it recognizes that the pro-life house has many mansions.

Prior to the election Miller wrote a piece about white Evangelicals and abortion where she predicted "that conservative Christians would not move in large numbers away from the Republican Party because of their fundamental theological and cultural objections to abortion." She should be given some credit, for much of the media for almost all of the election cycle had gleefully predicted/promised/hoped that Obama would make deep inroads into this community. He didn't.

But what's most interesting is not her surprise that there exists people who oppose abortion who either profess no faith basis or who are out-and-out atheists. The case for protecting unborn human life can be made with great power and forcefulness without a religious foundation, and has been for years.

The prime example is syndicated columnist Nat Hentoff. As you read his own explanation for his secular conversion, you might say Hentoff came in through the back door.

As he researched the inhumane and merciless disregard for the lives of babies born with serious injuries, Hentoff began to see how the same virus that made it possible for doctors and parents to starve days-old babies to death had infected the debate over euthanasia–-and abortion! And as he came to know pro-lifers as individuals, he found that he liked them, and respected them, a lot.

Rather what makes Miller's piece must reading is how it fits into the larger context. Every pro-abortionist and his aunt and uncle are attempting to carry on the deception which was so instrumental in allowing Obama to make inroads into constituencies that normally would never have given a pro-abortion maximalist like him a second thought. And that is the fabricated out of whole cloth myth that pro-abortionist and pro-life alike are bent on "reducing the number of abortions."

Bogus times ten, it is a strategy that Obama and his ilk will nonetheless carry in front of them like a banner. And if "everyone" wants to decrease the number of abortions, then pro-lifers must of course (a) accept every proposal, even if is entirely insincere or provides no evidence it will reduce the number of dead babies, and (b) quietly stand by while pro-abortionists simultaneously demolish every protective measure that has a proven track record of saving unborn babies.

Put another way, provided they offer a rhetorical crumb or two along the way, as pro-abortionists attempt to devour every protective measure, we are to accept that "progress" is being made in "reaching for common ground after 30 years of oppositional acrimony." Watch how it's done in Miller's article.

Having begun her column with atheists who are pro-life and who voted against Obama, Miller's choice to represent a phantom "middle position on abortion" is the "bombastic and verbally double-jointed atheist intellectual," Christopher Hitchens. A better description might be the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Hitchens.

On the plus side, Hitchens sort of answers to the description "pro-life" and will defend the use of the term "unborn child." And, for what it is worth, there is Hitchens' "squeamishness, a squeamishness he comes by honestly, he says, out of two personal experiences with abortion."

What do pro-abortionists get from the dark side of Hitchens?

Of course, he doesn't think "a woman should be forced to choose," Roe should stand forever and a couple of days more, and in exchange for pro-abortionists excising "moral callousness" from the debate, pro-lifers will excise religion. Not a bad bargain for Obama and his fellow pro-abortionists, wouldn't you say?

But, according to Hitchens, the real answer to the abortion debate is not a recognition of moral and ethical responsibility. Nor is it an acknowledgment that it is the parents, not the unborn child, who create a crisis pregnancy situation. Nor is it a frank realization that a culture that is at war with its own progeny ultimately puts its whole future in jeopardy.

No, the answer is "science," or, more specifically, abortifacients such as RU-486. Hitchens is the representative figure because this is an article about atheists and abortion, but he stands for the "out of sight, out of mind" answer to moral dilemmas.

Chemical abortions like RU-486 are by no means the walk in the park Planned Parenthood types tell women they are. We have documented how painful they are and how dangerous.

But pro-abortionists love them because they promise to kill the little ones before their resemblance to a "real child" is undeniable. This allows women (and men) to keep their conscience at bay. Or so the excuse-mongering goes.

Miller ends with a rhetorical question: "how is a pharmaceutical abortion any different from a surgical one?" But, luckily for her and all the others who bask in "inconsistent and imperfect" answers, Hitchens has the perfect response: "I'm happy to say some problems don't have solutions." To Miller, "such honest reflection is progress indeed."

It is nothing of the sort. Far from honest reflection, it is both morally tone-deaf and plagued by an arrogant self-assurance that allows them to believe that if they speak loud enough and long enough and insincerely enough, truth can be turned on its head.

Not so. Not on our watch.

National Petition to Stop FOCA

National Petition to Stop the Federal No-Limits-On-Abortion Bill

The petition urges all United States Senators and House members to reject the so-called "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA), a radical pro-abortion battering ram intended to dismantle all state and federal limitations on abortion.

The heart of FOCA is a ban that would nullify all of the major types of pro-life laws that the Supreme Court has said are permissible under Roe v. Wade. To name just a few consequences were this to become law, FOCA would make the brutal partial-birth abortion technique legal again.

It would require tax funding of abortion on demand, even when used as a method of birth control. And it would nullify virtually all state limits on abortion, including laws requiring parental notification before an abortion is performed on a minor.

Pro-abortion President-elect Barack Obama has unequivocally endorsed enactment of the FOCA.

Obama's staff

Abortion industry picks Obama's staff

As you read through the list of Barack Obama's Cabinet and agency head picks, recall that Planned Parenthood, NARAL and EMILY's List promised to spend $30 million combined to defeat John McCain.

It's payback time, and the pro-abort chickens are coming home to roost.

Wait – bad cliché choice. Liberal feminist chicks make their living by anti-roosting.

The pro-abort chickens are coming home to loot. That's better.

There's Ellen Moran, who will be leaving her job as executive director of EMILY's List to serve as Obama's communications director.

And there's NARAL's former legal director, Dawn Johnsen, who Obama nabbed for his Department of Justice review team.

On Monday, Obama named Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as his homeland security secretary. If you visit the Planned Parenthood Action Fund website, you'll see a very nice photo of Napolitano snapped in August when she "stopped by" its Denver headquarters to "show her support" for Planned Parenthood's One Million Strong voter campaign.

Last week, Obama named Melody Barnes to head his Domestic Policy Council. She previously served on the boards of Planned Parenthood and EMILY's List.

Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel, passed Planned Parenthood and NARAL muster by earning consistent 100 percent voting records from both as a congressman. He got extra credit for voting against the Partial Birth Abortion Ban three times.

Speaking of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban, Obama's new secretary of health and human services, Tom Daschle, blocked it from even getting an up-or-down vote during his stint as Senate majority leader. Daschle is a rabid pro-abort who also detests abstinence education and supports nationalized health care, i.e., taxpayer-funded abortions.

Then there is Alta Charo, Obama's new ethics adviser. Charo has ties to the human embryo experimentation industry so, surprise, supports federally funded embryonic research. She also opposes conscience rights of health care professionals to refuse to participate in abortion. There's ethics for you.

And I cannot forget Hillary Clinton, Obama's new secretary of state, who famously competed with him for title of most pro-abortion presidential candidate during the primaries, causing a rift between feminists and the abortion industry. No worries. Fight over.

I wonder how easily a Republican president-elect could nominate the pro-life equivalent to any of Barack Obama's pro-death picks, say Phill Kline for attorney general.

Of course, cries of protest would be heard far and wide, not only from liberals but from the mainstream media.

As for the pro-death people around whom Obama has chosen to surround himself, the worst cries of protest can't be heard.

Sen. Chambliss a 'great pro-life leader'

Victorious Sen. Chambliss a 'great pro-life leader'

The pro-life movement has welcomed the Tuesday night runoff election victory of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss in Georgia, Susan B. Anthony lists calls him a "great pro-life leader."

By a 57 to 43 margin, the Republican Chambliss defeated Democratic candidate Jim Martin, preventing the Democratic Party from achieving a filibuster-proof 60 seats in the U.S. Senate.

According to the Associated Press, Alaska Governor and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin campaigned on Chambliss' behalf, headlining across the state at four rallies that attracted thousands of attendees.

A pro-life Voter Education and Mobilization Program run by the SBA List reportedly contacted over 400,000 pro-life voters through media in Georgia prior to the general election and ran educational ads on Christian radio before the runoff, a press release from the Susan B. Anthony List said.

"Today Georgia voters re-elected a great pro-life leader in Senator Saxby Chambliss," said Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund. "The U.S. Senate needs his leadership and passionate protection of mothers and innocent unborn children. The Susan B. Anthony List and pro-life advocates across the country look forward to working with Senator Chambliss to fight for strict constructionist judges who won't legislate from the bench."

Dannenfelser claimed her organization's get-out-the-vote efforts made a difference in the race.

Adult Stem Cells Help Stroke Recovery

Adult Stem Cells Help Stroke Victim Recover

Doctors in Europe have used adult stem cells to allow a stroke victim to speak again.

Walter Bast, of Germany, lost his speech and use of his right arm after two strokes. Doctors then inserted a tea bag-like package of bone-marrow stem cells from a healthy donor into Bast's brain. The stem cells helped to protect the brain cells from dying and repair the damage from the strokes.

Within a week of the treatment, Bast was back to good health. Doctors hope the treatment will soon be available to more people.

Dawn Vargo, bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said: "As new techniques are discovered with adult stem cells, we look forward to seeing these become mainstream treatments that may help people recover from debilitating illnesses."

Democrate Supermajority Blocked

Democrat Supermajority Blocked with Georgia Pro-Life Chambliss Win

Georgian Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss declared victory over opponent Jim Martin in the state's runoff election, dashing the Democratic Senate's hopes of securing a filibuster-proof majority of 60 seats.

Georgia's race was one of two in the country, the other in Minnesota, that had been too close to call in the Nov. 4th general elections. A bitter runoff campaign ensued, in which Martin emphasized the economy and Chambliss urged voters not to give free rein to Washington Democrats only one seat away from becoming an unstoppable force.

Chambliss had won the general elections in the traditionally red state with 49.8% of the vote to Martin's 46.8%, narrowly missing the 50% needed to avoid the runoff.  As the votes poured in on Tuesday, he pulled ahead of Martin 59-41 with 84% of precincts in, nearly tripling his original lead.  Some see the disparity as confirming suspicions that the second election would draw fewer Democratic voters without Mr. Obama on the ballot.

The Georgian Republican boasts a 100% pro-life voting record, having voted to ban partial-birth abortion and strengthen parental consent laws as well as protection for unborn victims of violence.

Pro-life leaders hailed Chambliss's victory at a time when the U.S. Senate prepares to re-examine the rights of the unborn in the Freedom of Choice Act, a bill Mr. Obama promised to pass immediately and which would render illegal all state and federal restrictions on abortion.  Chambliss stands in stark contrast to Martin on the issue, as his Democratic opponent's record shows a strong pro-abortion agenda.

"Today Georgia voters re-elected a great pro-life leader in Senator Saxby Chambliss," said Marjorie Dannenfelser president of the Susan B. Anthony List.

"The U.S. Senate needs his leadership and passionate protection of mothers and innocent unborn children.  The Susan B. Anthony List and pro-life advocates across the country look forward to working with Senator Chambliss to fight for strict constructionist judges who won't legislate from the bench."

Both sides of the campaign called upon popular politicians to stump for them in the weeks leading up to the runoff vote, and their relative success in gathering celebrity support may have had a significant impact on the outcome.

Former President Bill Clinton and former VP Al Gore both stumped for Martin, but the Democrat received only a recorded radio ad from President-elect Obama, whose presence had been requested.  As for the Republican, Chambliss believes the eleventh-hour arrival of Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin on the campaign scene worked wonders for firing up the GOP base.

"Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite," Chambliss told Fox News on Wednesday. "We packed the houses everywhere we went."

Chambliss showered praise upon Palin, and while he said appearances by Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani "did a great job" adding momentum to his campaign, nonetheless "when she [Palin] walks in a room, folks just explode."

50 Mentally Disabled Died in Institutions in 2008

50 Mentally Disabled Died in Texas Institutions in 2008

More than 50 mentally disabled patients in the large state-run institutions of Texas died in the past year from preventable conditions often related to poor care, a federal investigation revealed Tuesday.

Among other findings were that a resident had swallowed latex gloves three times and that a teenage resident with mild mental retardation might have been raped by a male employee.

Overall, the state investigated at least 500 allegations of abuse, neglect and other mistreatment of residents from July through September, according to the letter sent by the Department of Justice to Gov. Rick Perry.

The findings mark the third time in three years that the Justice Department has investigated the Texas facilities, known as state schools. Similar findings of mistreatment at the Lubbock State School came out in 2006; the latest letter details deficiencies in Texas' 12 other state schools.

High Cost of Murder

The High Cost of Murder

Seems WomanCare Services in Berwyn, IL is complaining about the high cost of abortions. According to their recent press release, "women in Berwyn are paying anywhere from $300 to $500 for an abortion, and even up to $1,000 depending on how far along the woman is in her pregnancy".

I guess killing the baby just before birth costs you extra. A kind of "express" charge.

Still, the cost of murder in Berwyn seems cheap. Heck, a root canal will cost you well over $1,500. Perhaps this is the abortionists' attempt to tap into some of the Federal bailout money.

Human-Animal Embryonic Cross Breeding Will Become Law

UK Bill Allowing Human-Animal Embryonic Cross Breeding Will Become Law

A new age of what critics denounce as 'Frankenstein science' is underway as the Human Fertility Embryology (HFE) Bill passed its final reading in the House of Commons last month. An overwhelming majority of 355 votes to 129 backed the bill that will make Britain one of a small number of counties to legalise the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos for medical research. While the Catholic Church and MPs opposing the bill decry the move as 'unethical,' and medically insignificant, supporters argue that hybrid embryos may lead to cures for various diseases including cystic fibrosis, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

How Can USA Excuse Murder Of Children?

Cardinal Stafford does not favor torture, negligence of the poor, nor the other misrepresentations leveled against him. He wishes to see policies that lift up the individual in dignity, rather than keeping him down. No doubt he is hopeful for our country. What he decries, as I do, is our genocidal attitude toward the unborn, which our president-elect has promised to continue and expand. How can our country excuse the murder of our own children, almost always for mere convenience?

Graham Calls Abortion `Murder'

Franklin Graham Calls Abortion `Murder'

Evangelist Franklin Graham delivered a message Sunday night at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., mixing a bit of politics into his call for repentance. Reading from 2 Samuel 9:1-8, Graham recalled an event in the life of King David, in which the ancient ruler of Israel seeks to show God's kindness to the son of his childhood friend Jonathan. During the message, Graham listed a variety of sins, from lying and stealing to bearing false witness. Most emphasized, however, was the sin of murder, in particular abortion. "You say, 'Well come on, Franklin. This is California. We're kind of a liberal state, but they'll still put you in jail for murder around here.' No, they don't," Graham said before pointing to abortion as a form of murder.

Embryo invention refused EU patent on moral grounds

Human embryo-using invention refused EU patent on moral grounds

Citing a patent convention which forbids patenting inventions which would be contrary to public order or morality, the European Union's patent office has rejected a patent on the grounds that the application would involve the destruction of human embryos.

The patent involved the "WARF/Thomson stem cell application" filed by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation in 1995. The patent office appeal board ruled that it is not possible to grant a patent for an invention which necessarily involves the use and destruction of human embryos, LifeSite News reports.

The European Patent Convention (EPC) forbids patenting inventions whose commercial exploitation would be contrary to public order or morality.

Wesley Smith, a U.S. lawyer and bioethics writer told LifeSiteNews.com that the decision is the first indication from the EU that the moral status of the human embryo is an issue.

The patent office ruling does not outlaw the use of embryos in research, but Smith said it will "send a chill to those who would use embryos commercially."

"In any event," Smith continued, "let us hear no more about religious zealots imposing their will on rational modernists. Europe is as secular a culture as you will find in the world."

'Open season' on Human Embryos

'Open season' on human embryos around the corner?

Jonathan Moreno of the University of Pennsylvania is heading up President-elect Obama's bioethics campaign and pro-lifers are calling that a negative for the movement.

Embryonic research involves the destruction of tiny human beings and is vigorously supported by Obama. Dr. David Prentice knows about Moreno's position on the subject and says that Moreno was on the National Academy of Sciences panel – a panel that approved guidelines for destroying embryos that were used for research and human cloning.

Dr. Prentice was asked if Moreno and others are ignoring the tremendous successes with adult stem cells, which does not involve killing an embryo.

"There's pretty much a blind eye being turned toward the real successes which come out every week," said Prentice. He adds that they would rather just look "ideologically at the open season on human embryos" and have "carte blanche to do any human experiments they want."

Moreno is also known to support animal-human hybrids.

Pro-abortion Activist Selected as White House Communications Director

Obama Selects Pro-abortion Activist as White House Communications Director

Ellen Moran, whom President-elect Barrack Obama selected on Saturday to be his White House communications director, is the head of a well-known abortion activist group.

Moran is the executive director of EMILY'S List, an organization whose mission is to "elect pro-choice Democratic women to office by raising money for their campaigns."

Pro-life groups are upset with the pick – and what it says about the upcoming administration's ties to the abortion lobby.

"Obama is taking the leader of one of the most radical of abortion groups and giving her this very prominent position," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee. "I think that's an indication of what we can expect in the wave of other appointments and policies."

Clark Forsythe, senior counsel for the pro-life law firm Americans United for Life, said Moran's appointment should come as no surprise.

"I think it reflects (Obama's) intimate contacts with the abortion PACs (political action committees) in the nation and his strong ties to them and his need to reward them for their strong support of his candidacy," Forsythe told CNSNews.com.

EMILY's List -- which is an acronym, "Early Money Is Like Yeast" (it makes the "dough" rise) -- has raised millions of dollars to recruit and campaign for pro-abortion women candidates. In 2008, it helped mobilize women voters to elect not only Obama as president, but new pro-abortion liberal candidates to Congress -- including Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona; Suzanne Kosmas of Florida; Dina Titus of Nevada; Debbie Halvorson of Illinois; Chellie Pingree of Maine; Betsy Markey of Colorado and Marcia Fudge of Ohio.

EMILY's List also helped elect former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen to the U.S. Senate and North Carolina's Kay Hagan to replace Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.).

"EMILY's List has been one of the biggest money machines on the pro-abortion side," Johnson said.

According to Change.gov, the president-elect's new Web site, Moran has worked with the AFL-CIO and the Democratic National Committee. In 2000, she headed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's $50 million issue-advocacy campaign.

Her past political experience includes planning both inaugurals for President Bill Clinton and managing campaigns for governor, the U.S. Senate and House. She worked on the national campaign staff of Tom Harkin's 1992 presidential campaign.

Moran was a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) throughout the presidential campaign until her concession in June.

According to The New York Times, Moran previously worked with both David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manger, and David Axelrod, his newly selected senior advisor.

Pro-life groups, meanwhile, expect other pro-abortion activists to be selected for posts in the Obama administration.

"We're seeing that (Obama is) an extreme proponent of abortion," Katie Walker, communications director at the American Life League, told CNSNews.com.

"Not only will he support abortion access, he will do anything he can to advance the agendas of organizations like EMILY's List, NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) and Planned Parenthood."

Video Shows Planned Parenthood Covering Up Rape

New Video Shows Indiana Planned Parenthood Covering Up Rape of 13-year Old Girl

New footage released today from an undercover camera inside an abortion clinic in Bloomington shows Planned Parenthood staff deliberately violating the state's mandatory reporting laws for sexual abuse.

The footage shows Lila Rose, a UCLA student journalist and president of right-to-life advocacy group Live Action, posing as a 13-year-old girl. In an appointment with a Planned Parenthood nurse, Rose says she has been impregnated by a 31-year-old man, a clear case of child molestation under Indiana state law.

On tape, the nurse acknowledges her responsibility to report the abuse, but assures Rose she will not. The nurse says, "I am supposed to report to Child Protective Services," but tells Rose, "Okay, I didn't hear the age [of the 31-year-old]. I don't want to know the age."

She then instructs Rose how to obtain a secret abortion by crossing state lines in order to avoid Indiana's parental consent law. The nurse also coaches Rose to cover for the 31-year-old man by saying he is only 14. She says, "You've seen him around, you know he's 14, he's in your grade and whatever. You know what I mean."

Rose said she and other students in Live Action recorded the video over the summer in a multi-state investigation of the abortion industry. Rose described the undercover audit, called The Mona Lisa

Project, as "demonstrating the routine lawlessness of abortion providers at Planned Parenthood." Rose noted, "Today's video release is only a sample from many hours of similarly disturbing footage."

Planned Parenthood, a tax-exempt nonprofit, made over $100 million in profits last year and has a billion-dollar budget, nearly a third of which comes from taxpayers through government funding. Jackie Stollar, student president of a Live Action chapter in Oregon, accompanied Rose on the investigation. "In a repeated pattern, Planned Parenthood has violated the public trust. It should have its government funding revoked," she said.

"The Mona Lisa Project demonstrates how quickly the abortion industry's disrespect for unborn children becomes disregard for all humans," Rose explained. "Planned Parenthood offers no solutions for the victim of statutory rape--they give her an abortion and a bag of condoms and send her straight back into the arms of the abuser."

Abortion Continues to Kill Women and Children

Safe Abortion Continues to Kill America's Women and Children

The recent stunning case of abortionist Bertha Pinedo Bugarin being charged  with pretending to be a physician and performing abortions without a medical license is only the tip of the iceberg in the abortion industry. The entire industry is rank with women being brutalized emotionally and physically by the procedure that at times is even forced on them. Yet that bloody trade praises itself for being safe and legal. What is also not heard on the evening news is that safe and legal abortion continues to kill many women in America.

It should be astounding to hear that the abortion industry in America potentially performs 7-13 million chemical, mechanical and surgical abortions each year. With that comes the fact that there is big money to be made in that industry. Billions of tax payer dollars have been given by the Federal government to support abortion services. In fact, the selling of abortion is a way of life for many of these clinics as witnessed by former abortion clinic operator Carol Everett.

Additionally, evidence continues to grow that employees at Planned Parenthood do not report the sexual predators that impregnate minor girls.

"How much more evidence do we need to see to it that the horrendous practice of abortion is abolished? Why will we as a people continue to fund and legalize the genocide of so many children? How many women have to be killed, injured, rendered sterile or emotionally maimed for life before we understand that the abortion provider in America is truly doing al-Qaida a great service by wiping out our own citizens at our own expense. Must I also state the obvious, abortion is never safe for children in the womb!" says Phil Magnan President and Pastor of Biblical Family Advocates.

Magnan continued by saying, "Many years ago several pro life advocates, including members of Operation Rescue and myself pleaded with the Chula Vista Ca. City Council to do something about the clinic that has been recently implicated in the Bertha Pinedo Bugarin case. That clinic was reported to have hired a convicted sex offender as well as a doctor who had performed botched abortions.  At that time the City said that they were powerless to do anything about it and said that it was a health department matter. The City at that time did not take their commitment to protect women at the abortion clinics seriously.

But recently we have been greatly pleased that the year long investigative work of Chula Vista Police Chief Rick Emerson helped to put this harmful clinic out of business. He stated in an LA Times article that "patients were subjected to pain and risk of great bodily injury because of Bugarin's lack of medical training."

Biblical Family Advocates implores other governmental bodies to take the lead in protecting women from being harmed by abortion and consider the fact that they have been complicit for many years in the shedding of innocent blood, when all along they should have protected our children. The shame of allowing slavery and racism should remind us that we should never again allow the law of the land to deny anyone the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

PRO-LIFE STUDENTS: ‘ABORTION IS BAD FOR WOMEN’

PRO-LIFE STUDENTS: 'ABORTION IS BAD FOR WOMEN'

Pro-Life students from campuses around Illinois show that abortion is bad for women.

Students for Life of Illinois (SFLI), a collegiate pro-life organization, has coordinated pro-life students on several campuses to join together in order to challenge the assumption that abortion is good for women.  The "Abortion is Bad for Women" educational campaign will be hosted on campuses on Dec. 3.

"We want to challenge the commonly held assumption that abortion is a good thing for women," said John-Paul Deddens, Director of SFLI. Students will be distributing literature that outlines several reasons why abortion is bad for women.  They will be spreading the word on campus throughout the day in solidarity with pro-life groups from schools including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Loyola University, North Central College, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Lewis University, Northwestern University, Bradley University and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Student leaders have utilized educational podcasts created by SFLI to educate themselves on why abortion is harmful to women. They will then turn around and share what they learned with their peers on campus using posters, hand-outs and even facebook. Some students have already begun changing their 'facebook statuses' to broadcast the "Abortion is Bad for Women" message to their friends.

Students for Life of Illinois is a regional education and activism organization for pro-life college students.  "The assumption that abortion is a good experience for women has gone unchallenged for far too long on college campuses.  As long as our campuses blindly accept this false assumption, more women will be harmed by abortion and overlooked by the campus communities," said Deddens.
