Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on Thursday said that the GOP has not ruled out the use of procedural tactics, such as a Republican boycott, to attempt to delay Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearing, Roll Call reports. Republicans have complained that the scheduled July 13 start date for the hearing does not give them enough time to review Sotomayor's record. Kyl said that Republicans will try to negotiate with Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) for more time if they feel they cannot meet the July 13 deadline (Stanton, Roll Call, 6/11). Leahy said that Sotomayor is entitled to be confirmed on the same timetable as Chief Justice John Roberts, who appeared before the Judiciary Committee less than two months after his nomination.

In spite of, or maybe because of, the state of the economy, we have a new "business" here in Visalia: Planned Parenthood. What you choose to do with your life is your own business, but I ask that you do not believe their lies. For instance: 1. Planned Parenthood says: "The fetus is just a piece of tissue." Tissue is specific. This is a specific human being. DNA structure of the fertilized egg proves it.

Autopsy results have come back in Oregon concerning the death of 21-year-old former West Virginia resident, Heather Snively. The cause of death has been listed as blunt force to the head and cutting. Initial tests did not reveal if the seven month pregnant Ms. Snively was still alive when the accused, Korena Roberts, 27, cut her baby from the womb. Neither Snively nor the child survived. However, Oregon law does not recognize the unborn as a person. Roberts has been charged with only one murder. Kevin Snively. Heather's father, has joined other family members in asking the Oregon legislature alter state law.

The article on the death of Dr. George Tiller states, "The doctor's slaying is an "unspeakable tragedy." This is particularly heart-wrenching "because George was shot down in his house of worship, a place of peace." As a Christian pastor for the past 50 years, I am distressed by the huge context of what is called "particularly heart-wrenching." The context is that violence and tragic death are so widespread that even in places of worship and peace, the people who occupy and govern such places are often unable to agree upon and pursue the principles of life consistent with the worship that enables peace to prevail.

Randall Terry, one of the best-known abortion opponents in the U.S., launched a new version of Operation Rescue this weekend, calling on activists from across the country to press on despite bad publicity over the May 31 slaying of abortion doctor George Tiller. Forty-five people from 16 cities met at the Crystal City Doubletree hotel Saturday for a hastily arranged "emergency pro-life training conference" to recruit more foot soldiers in the battle against abortion. Mr. Terry has renamed his movement Operation Rescue Insurrecta Nex - the latter two words meaning 'insurrection against death' in Latin - and is trolling for new affiliates.
