Tiny Miracles Performed on Hearts Smaller Than a Pea
Dr. Lisa Hornberger doesn't want babies to be born with broken hearts. Some she can't prevent, but others she has found and saved while they're in the womb. Hornberger is a renowned fetal cardiologist recruited by Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta last fall. She will help women whose fetuses have ailing hearts and develop a fetal cardiovascular program, as she did in children's hospitals in Boston, Toronto and most recently San Francisco.

Designer Babies Bode Poorly for Children In Need
Something stinks about reproductive medicine in Southern California, and it doesn't involve eight dirty diapers. Recently, the Los Angeles-based Fertility Institutes announced that it would soon be offering patients at its clinics the chance to choose traits such as "eye color, hair color and complexion." The clinics already offer gender selection to patients undergoing in vitro fertilization. The Fertility Institutes employs a technique known as "preimplantation genetic diagnosis," which allows doctors to screen embryos soon after they are created in a petri dish and implant only the ones that meet certain criteria.

Arkansas Governor Signs Partial Birth Abortion Ban
Governor Mike Beebe has signed into law a measure that bans a certain abortion procedure that opponents call "partial birth abortion." The Democrat governor signed the bill Friday. Federal law already bans the procedure. Like that law, the bill by Rep. Dawn Creekmore, D-Hensley, also includes an exemption if the procedure is performed to save the life of the mother. The measure makes it a felony for a doctor to perform the procedure, and allows for civil liabilities as well. Creekmore has said the measure affects certain abortions performed after the first trimester.

Pope Warns of New Type of Eugenics Based on Perfection and Physical Beauty
Pope Benedict said on Saturday there were worrying signs of a new type of eugenics based on perfection and physical beauty. "Certainly, the eugenistic and racial ideologies that in the past humiliated man and provoked immense suffering are not being proposed again, but a new mentality is creeping in that tends to justify a different consideration of life and personal dignity," the pope said in a speech to the Pontifical Academy for Life.

FDA Approves Embryonic Stem Cell Experiments on Humans
As South Dakota considers repealing the state ban on embryonic stem cell research, this issue is receiving more and more attention on a national level. President Obama came to the White House last month carrying the campaign promise that he would reverse President Bush's 2001 ban on taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research (except for a few specific lines of embryonic stem cells already harvested).

HHS Leader Sebelius Brings A Radical Abortion Record
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is being reported as the front-runner as President Barack Obama's appointment for Health And Human Services Secretary. Although Ms. Sebelius was touted by The New York Times as a bipartisan politician, she comes with a strong pro-abortion record. Ms. Sebelius has ties to an abortionist with a history of performing risky abortions in the third trimester of pregnancy. Ms. Sebelius has reportedly received large campaign contributions from abortionist George Tiller (SEE NEWS CLIP: Sebelius speaks out against Kline's criminal investigation against Tiller), who was the subject of investigation after a 19-year-old woman died during an abortion at his clinic in 2005.

IVF Bungle Sees Woman Carry Stranger's Baby - So Hospital Kills The Child
A Japanese hospital has apologised for a bungle that saw the fertilised egg of a woman in her 40s implanted into a woman in her 20s. The pregnancy was terminated after nine weeks when doctors realised their mistake, said officials at Kagawa Prefectural Central Hospital. The fetus was reportedly not developing properly because the implanted egg had been assessed as unsuitable and was destined for disposal before the mix-up.
