Undercover Journalist Daleiden Enters Not Guilty Plea in San Francisco Court

David Daleiden
David Daleiden and his attorneys, including Thomas More Society Special Counsel Peter Breen, spoke to a supportive public following a hearing in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Francisco. Daleiden entered a plea of "not guilty," after a hearing on his demurrer, which objected to the validity of the complaint filed by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra against Daleiden. Judge Christopher C. Hite did not grant Daleiden's petition but, according to Breen, he did acknowledge that Daleiden will receive a hearing on his affirmative defenses at an upcoming preliminary probable cause hearing. Daleiden's primary affirmative defenses are, first, that the undercover recordings at issue were made in public places and, second, that he sought and uncovered evidence of illegal partial birth abortions and medical battery on women seeking abortions, bringing his recording efforts under the violent crime safe harbor in the California recording statute. "We're going to get a hearing on this," declared Breen, who called the charges weak and outrageous, adding that "This case should have never been brought."

The charges revolve around undercover videos made by Daleiden and colleague Sandra Susan Merritt during their research for the Center for Medical Progress. Becerra is accusing Daleiden of privacy violations, even though the film footage was shot in public locations, including restaurants and hotel conference rooms. The videos expose the alleged involvement of Planned Parenthood in trafficking aborted baby body parts.

Actress refuses abortion: ‘He was my son and he needed me’

Lynn Fergusson (most famous for voicing Mac in Chicken Run)
All too often, parents are pressured by doctors to undergo genetic screening, and even to abort their babies if it is thought they have a disability. Now a video where an actress hilariously relates how she resisted this pressure is going viral.

When actress Lynn Fergusson (most famous for voicing Mac in Chicken Run) became pregnant with her first child at the age of 37, she was surprised to find that her pregnancy was labeled "geriatric." However, she was even more surprised by the relentless pressure doctors put on her first to undergo an amniocentesis, and then to abort her baby. Her talk, published by storytelling website The Moth, is related with humor, and is a beautiful example of a mother determined to do the best for her son.

Woman dies after late-term abortion at shady clinic with history of abuse

Keisha Atkins
A 23-year-old woman, Keisha Atkins, died during a late-term abortion process initiated at Southwestern Women’s Options (SWO), the largest abortion facility in the U.S. that openly specializes in abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

"UNM Health Sciences Center is a biased promoter of abortion that is attempting to shift blame onto Atkins’ pregnancy, instead of the abortion, where the blame rightfully belongs," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. "Keisha Atkins and her family deserve the truth, not a cover-up. But with UNM and SWO, covering up their misdeeds has become standard operating procedure."

Stuck on the slippery slope of abortion

Ann Furedi, head of Britain’s largest abortion-providing organization
In defense of late-term abortion, Ann Furedi, head of Britain’s largest abortion-providing organization, once said:

“There isn’t any profound point at which you can say there is a difference between one kind of fetus and another. …

“So if we think [early abortion is] a morally wrong or morally coarsening thing to do, then I think we should oppose abortion right from the very earliest weeks. If we don’t think that, then we have to ask ourselves, very clearly, who decides when late is too late? …

“I would really question why, if there is no objective reason, no objective sudden value change, we need to intervene and create a point at which we apparently have the right to override a woman’s own subjective decision-making process. Because actually, any definition of late abortion is arbitrary and subjective.”

Furedi seems to be saying that because there are no morally significant differences between human fetuses at different stages in the womb, and since (she thinks most people believe) the abortion of early fetuses is morally permissible, then it is also the case that the abortion of late fetuses is permissible.

But one could also argue that because there are no morally significant differences between fetuses at different stages, and because (most people do in fact believe) the abortion of late fetuses is impermissible, then it is also the case that the abortion of early fetuses is impermissible.

Vision 2020 - Week 27 - Senator Wm. Sam McCann (R) and Senator Kyle McCarter (R)

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Isaiah 55:6

Pray that our leaders:

will hold fast to righteousness and will not let it go (Job 27:6)
will stand in the gap for our state (Ezekiel 22:30)
will seek the LORD (Deuteronomy 4:29)

Vision 2020 and the Illinois Federation for Right to Life would like to invite you to join us in praying for our state legislators.  We will send out information about a couple different state representatives each week for you to pray over.

Consider sharing this information with your ministry partners, your church family, on your website and/or your Facebook page.

We know that prayer changes things.  And we know that NOTHING is impossible with God. So let's join our hearts and voices together and petition heaven on behalf of the great state of Illinois!

Some of our legislators need prayer that God will open their eyes and change their hearts (or move them out of their positions) and some need prayers that they will have the strength, courage and boldness to be able to stand firmly against the opposition as they fight for life and family values.

As liberals tear down statues, Smithsonian won’t remove its most racist memorial to Margaret Sanger

How about we tear down the statue of Planned Parenthood’s racist founder?

Margaret Sanger Bust Statue at the Smithsonian Institution
In recent weeks, headlines from town and cities across America have highlighted the removal of statues commemorating Civil War-era confederate figures from public squares and buildings.

Yet a statue remains in Washington D.C.’s Smithsonian Institution commemorating the one person responsible for the deaths of more African Americans that any other in history: Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood.

After two-year legal fight, another state defunds Planned Parenthood

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson
A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that Arkansas can prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funding over its sale of aborted baby body parts.

In a 2-1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit sided with Arkansas. This ruling undid a judge's previous injunction forcing Arkansas to keep giving funds to the abortion provider.

David Daleiden claims victory in Washington State appeal

David Daleiden outside of Court
Lawyers for Planned Parenthood investigator David Daleiden claimed a victory on Wednesday as the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court sent back a lower court's ruling against him.

“The Court of Appeals, by reversing this decision and remanding this case back to District Court, has prevented a serious threat to the public's right to know how their tax dollars are being spent,” said Peter Breen, special counsel for the Thomas More Society who argued the appeal for Daleiden.

David Daleiden is the project lead at the Center for Medical Progress, the group that released undercover videos of conversations with Planned Parenthood officials and others in the abortion industry, as well as interviews of a former clinician for a tissue harvester.

Oregon Gov. Brown signs bill forcing taxpayer funding of abortion

Pro-abortion Gov. Kate Brown
Pro-abortion Gov. Kate Brown
On Tuesday Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed House Bill 3391 into law. HB 3391 solidifies Oregon’s unfortunate status as the most radically pro-abortion state in America. Abortions must now be covered 100 percent by all insurance policies, without a copay or deductible.

HB 3391 also establishes a $10 million fund for illegal immigrants’ reproductive “care,” of which $500 thousand is estimated to be spent covering abortions.

Unfortunately, abortion-supporting legislators included an emergency clause in the bill preventing it from being sent before voters. However, work is already taking place with lawyers on a legal challenge to the bill. As this effort develops will keep you up-to-date.

Judge forces Arizona to pay over $600,000 in abortion reversal suit

Planned Parenthood in Pheonix
A federal judge awarded Planned Parenthood and other abortionists more than $600,000 over a repealed pro-life law.

U.S. District Judge Steven P. Logan, an Obama appointee, ruled that since an Arizona law requiring abortionists to inform patients about the possibility of reversing a chemical abortion was repealed, taxpayers must reimburse Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses everything they spent on fighting the law.

Rauner confirms support for abortions

Gov. Rauner opening the 2017 IL State Fair
Oregon became the first state to make all abortions free when their Democrat governor signed a bill into law Monday. Illinois could become the second state if Governor Rauner signs HB 40 into law.

Republicans gathered at the State Fair Wednesday to celebrate "Governor's Day" and when reporters asked, the governor didn't say directly what he plans to do with a bill sitting on his desk that will cause Illinois taxpayers to pay for all abortions.

However, Governor Rauner did tell reporters that he "strongly supports women's reproductive rights, and that he always has and always will," Terri Koyne of Benld wrote on her Facebook page.

VIDEO: Late-term abortion facility: We ‘euthanize’ babies in the womb, deliver them dead

Late Term Abortion
In a new undercover recording, an employee at a late-term abortion facility explains that they "euthanize" pre-born babies and then deliver them "stillborn."

"What our doctor will do on the first day – on Tuesday – is she will use the medication that will euthanize the fetus," said Sue, a woman who answered the phone for Albuquerque's Southwestern Women's Options.  "So it will stop the fetal heart on that first day … you will go into labor. Well, labor’s going to be induced here in the clinic. Usually one to two days later."

Texas permanently bans taxpayer funding of abortion

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (center) signed a bill today that prevents taxpayers from having to pay for abortions through their insurance plans.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed on Tuesday, a bill into law that will keep Texans from having to pay for elective abortions through their insurance plans and restrict state funding for abortion insurance.

"As a firm believer in Texas values I am proud to sign legislation that ensures no Texan is ever required to pay for a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child,” Gov. Abbott said. “This bill prohibits insurance providers from forcing Texas policy holders to subsidize elective abortions. I am grateful to the Texas legislature for getting this bill to my desk, and working to protect innocent life this special session.”

An endless battle against pro-aborts' lies

Pregnant Woman
Three abortion groups in Atlanta demonstrated this past weekend at the Women's Care Clinic – but what were they really protesting against? Brian Fisher heads the Human Coalition, which serves and supports almost three dozen pro-life pregnancy centers across the U.S. – including the one in Atlanta. He says the protesting groups complain that the pro-life clinics are lying, cheating, and shaming women.

The truth, counters Fisher, is the clinics help to remove the obstacles that have turned the mother in the direction of having an abortion. He cites several examples.

"... [She may] need material assistance. Maybe she needs rescuing from an abusive situation. Maybe she needs a job. Maybe she needs healthcare," he lists. "Our clinics are intent on not only providing good counsel about what abortion actually is and how it kills the child and harms the mother, but our clinics are also about providing short- and long-term compassionate care."

FDA warns doctor not to promote ‘three-parent’ fertilization procedure

IVF
In a strongly worded August 4 letter, the FDA reminded New York-based Dr. John Zhang that it had declined his request to run clinical trials on the experimental technique mitochondrial replacement technology, or MRT and stop marketing an unapproved IVF technology that creates a human embryo using the DNA of three people.

Since December 2015, Congress has prohibited the FDA from reviewing applications on clinical tests involving genetically modified human embryos “until safety and ethical issues can be resolved,” reports Bloomberg BNA.  “Also, researchers don’t know what impact the procedure will have on the babies it produces,” it notes.

Abortion-pill reversal: The next frontier of informed-consent laws?

Pills
Medication abortions are on their way to becoming the dominant method of abortion in the U.S. But lawmakers are starting to look at whether to change their state’s informed-consent laws to let women know of an experimental treatment that could possibly reverse the effects of a progesterone-blocking abortion.

Indiana state Rep. Ronald Bacon, (R-Chandler), told the National Catholic Register that he heard about the “abortion-pill reversal” technique during a presentation by Fort Wayne obstetrician-gynecologist Christina Francis. Bacon, who is Catholic, thought that women contemplating abortion, or who have taken mifepristone – the first pill in the two-pill RU-486 abortion process – should at least know the possibility existed.

In the event they wanted to reconsider their choice for abortion, Bacon said they should know about this possibility and who they should contact from the information packet that abortion doctors are required to give their patients.
